Herman Cain leads by 20 points!

Being the Commander of the Continental Armies is rather political... Ulysses S. Grant had a similar history as well. And Eisenhower.

Military experience is equal to political experience? If the military counts, then doesn't any leadership experience at all count as being "rather political"?

Well you can just sign on as an adviser to Presidential [sic] candidates.

So does one need to claim to be an adviser to a candidate in order to criticize their public statements?

If that's not what you mean, does your comment have any meaning at all?

Anything you wish to add without sending me to another website? (BTW, you can embed yt videos here using the "yt" tag.)

I think the point was that positions like theirs were political almost as much as they were military.

No. Generals are different because of their interaction with the civilian world. Occupying cities, negotiating with foreign leaders and armies, etc. Not all generals have that experience, but the ones I listed did.

It'd certainly be a great drama to see the enthusiastic, cheerful Cain up against the sour, arrogant Obama.

If that useless drongo has a sense of humor, he sure hides it well. He always seems to get a sort of constipated look on his face everytime a reporter presses him to answer a question he did not himself raise.

I'd go with a successful businessman over someone who's background consisted of only working as a community organizer and other government positions.

Being a successful business man is no reason the lunatic should be trusted with fixing what is wrong with the ecconomy today. The dude is a computer geek and thinks you can plug people into a mathematical model and if they don't succede, it's their own damned fault.

Nothing in his background prepared him to actually lead PEOPLE.

That's actually exactly what he's DONE.

And being a community organizer is good reason and qualifications?

Nothing in his background prepared him to actually lead PEOPLE.

He managed 400 stores in the Philadelphia area. Under Cain's leadership, his region went in three years from the least profitable for Burger King to the most profitable. This prompted Pillsbury to appoint him President and CEO of another subsidiary, Godfather's Pizza where he had to, you know, lead PEOPLE.

Herman Cain = The GOP's answer to Obama. No way this guy would have a semblance of a buzz if he were white (c'mon his claim to fame is owning a pizza restaurant chain not to mention the fact he has absolutely NO political experience). He's another Michael Steele (he's the "look we got a black guy too!" guy). Even worse GOPers love to say Obama was too inexperienced but they support Cain?

I don't know why anybody is even entertaining the thought of him being Presidential material. His foreign policy is essentially "i'll see when I get there" (seriously, watch the first fox news GOP debate). I'm confident he doesn't have a chance but I never underestimate the stupidity of my fellow Americans.

I'd say practicing law and his stent as as a senator are perfectly pertinent qualifications (in addition to being a community organizer).

Yes because we all know being a business owner makes one Presidential material. Just ask Donald Trump.

EDIT: I'll trust Cain not to burn my pizza but advise he stay away from the white house. ;)

Yet both public opinion and economic performance clearly shows he has failed to fix "what is wrong with the ecconomy today", thus those qualifications were hardly "pertinent".

Cue the "but Bush really messed things up so much that..." line.

The president isn't a dictator, I'm unhappy he's been as compromising and right leaning as he has been, even if you don't think so Cain would be worse with his nonsense proposals.

No need to bring Bush into it at all, or even defend Obama really. Cain himself gives all the ammo anyone in the center, on the left, or even just right of center they need to bring him down.

That's smaller than the smallest of States. No political experience and weak executive experience doesn't seem like a good qualifier. Especially when his 999 plan is another "don't tax, do spend" policy Republicans have become so in love with.

If his policies weren't crazy, I'd say he's qualified to run for governor of some States. With his horrible policies ideas, I think he should stay in business.

Oh noes!!11! You got me!

Who cares? So what? You want to argue about Zogby?! Freaking fine. Zogby retracted. Eliminated. Gone.

The point?

Herman Cain surges well ahead into the lead.

There.

Argue with that.

Now be sure to tell me about the real world in personal antagonism, because that's what really matters in the Hermain Cain-takes-the-lead-at-the-moment thread...

*sigh*

Jude, you're making less sense than usual, I'm afraid. Remove Zogby's dubious results and NO OTHER POLLING DATA shows Cain in the lead over Romney. None.

I can't dispute "Herman Cain Surges Into The Lead" any more than I can dispute "Zod Captures Utah Straw Poll" because they're both nonsensical.

as a canadian, whose country is strongly influenced by trends south of the border, i find it gratifying that the republicans have absolutely failed to find a presidential candidate,
thus ensuring obama's return to the white house.

better the clown we know than the moron.

What is Godfather's Pizza's position on disengagement in Afghanistan? I haven't been able to locate that on their website. I asked the girl at Burger King yesterday what she thought Congress should do about the Chinese government's refusal to float the Renminbi, though, and she very insightfully said, "You want fries with that number 3?"

Business experience is very valuable as business experience.

..."but Bush really messed things up so much that..."

...all the useless drongos in the House and that chinless dork from Kentucky have to do is say "no" to everything Obama calls for and the country stays in the toilet.

That and being an attorney give you some insight into the human costs of thirty years of idiotic fiscal and trade and educational policies. It gives you some idea of what people need from government in order to compete on an equal footing with their corporate enemies. It gives him insight into the harm that lack of regulation on industries can do to people.

It gives him some insight into how people feel.

And it is his job to care about how we feel when the actions taken by government have been taken.

A bean counter with authority can look at the spread sheets and say "This is what we will do," and nobody can tell him that he cannot.

The pizza dork is prepared to be a dictator, but not a leader.

Here's the problem I have with talking about his being "qualified". What's NOT qualified is a Senator or Congressman. What is qualified is someone with experience as a Governor, a VP or other significant activities.

That excludes Obama, but that's not my point.

What SHOULD be qualfying is significant experience in the private sector.

Whether the voting public can realize that and vote accordingly is another matter. Romney is a glib, practiced, polished politician.

Is that the solution, or the problem?

The question of who is qualified to be President.

I don’t think it is just the office one has held that makes you qualified. Example: Sarah Palin is not qualified, even if she was governor of a state. Barack Obama and Chris Christie are not qualified due to their lack of knowledge or experience on a national level. I don’t think Herman Cain, Donald Trump, or Ross Perot are or were qualified.

Conversely, Pat Buchanan is or was qualified because of his knowledge of issues thru his journalistic career and his service in the White House under two administrations.
