A flashback is a flashback, lsd or natural. It's a memory trying to emerge.
The problem is that we all think it's mad to have a memory emerge. Well, the body does it, and does it well. but we muck it up with medicine.
I ran about 50 workshops over the years that dealt directly with these things.
How can object affect itself? You need two things to make an affection.
If I show you an animal you haven't seen before how do you assess whether it is tall or short?
A difficulty in reading is a difficulty in reading, not some other problem. Any material associations we make don't introduce to anothjer problem.
Tall and short are relative properties. They are not exhibited by individuals. Same goes for the ability to read.
Why invent causes? Let's say "oh it's all caused by the brain". But that applies to everything we think or do.
"Caused by the brain" adds nothing. You can't say diificulty is a problem because it is caused by the brain. It is a problem because there is a difficulty in reading.
What cause? If every ability or thought is caused by the brain, you can't single out one ability as being any worse or better than another.
You can find out the cause for allergies, but the cause won't tell you if an allergy is a good thing or not.
I'm done. The level of willful experience being displayed is beyond anything I've dealt with before. My mind is boggled. (Is that a "problem"?)
Well, each object is composed of multiple smaller objects; thus, any subcomponent can impact another subcomponent in adverse ways. When my desktop's power source fried it blew out my motherboard--despite the two being the same computer. In a biological system, chaotic as they usually are, it's much more likely that interacting components will impact one another in complex, and sometimes adverse, ways. How can object affect itself? You need two things to make an affection.
I understand:
"... will not learn to read when they are taught with teh standard methods, they need other strategies."
But what's dyslexia?
I understand an "ability to distinguish symbols".
But what does dyslexia mean?
This is how an irrational belief begins.
Dyslexia is an irrational belief because we say things like "I know there is a definition (I've seen it before, just can't recall it offhand)"
You might as well assert "I know £$%^& has a definition".
I know what a difficulty in reading is.
But what's dyslexia?
And information from NINDS on what a learning disability is:What is Dyslexia?
Dyslexia is a brain-based type of learning disability that specifically impairs a person's ability to read. These individuals typically read at levels significantly lower than expected despite having normal intelligence. Although the disorder varies from person to person, common characteristics among people with dyslexia are difficulty with phonological processing (the manipulation of sounds), spelling, and/or rapid visual-verbal responding. In individuals with adult onset of dyslexia, it usually occurs as a result of brain injury or in the context of dementia; this contrasts with individuals with dyslexia who simply were never identified as children or adolescents. Dyslexia can be inherited in some families, and recent studies have identified a number of genes that may predispose an individual to developing dyslexia.
What are Learning Disabilities?
Learning disabilities are disorders that affect the ability to understand or use spoken or written language, do mathematical calculations, coordinate movements, or direct attention. Although learning disabilities occur in very young children, the disorders are usually not recognized until the child reaches school age. Research shows that 8 to 10 percent of American children under 18 years of age have some type of learning disability.
Is there any treatment?
The most common treatment for learning disabilities is special education. Specially trained educators may perform a diagnostic educational evaluation assessing the child's academic and intellectual potential and level of academic performance. Once the evaluation is complete, the basic approach is to teach learning skills by building on the child's abilities and strengths while correcting and compensating for disabilities and weaknesses. Other professionals such as speech and language therapists also may be involved. Some medications may be effective in helping the child learn by enhancing attention and concentration. Psychological therapies may also be used.
The MRI won't tell you that what you are seeing is a problem. The problem was decided before any medical investigation.
Oh, you mean she's in on it(TM)!Judith Herman is considered as an expert in field of PTSD.
Blind people are perfectly normal! Scientists have manipulated them into thinking they need guide dogs to keep them from attaining true happiness!Anyone want to take bets on which medical condition Jonesboy's next thread will claim is a conspiracy? Diabetes? Crohn's disease? Lupus?
Well, if there is one benefit to this ridiculous thread it is that I decided to start taking No-Doz caffeine pills again. I realized how foolish it was for me to try to rely on willpower alone to overcome my ADHD.
If I had a normally functioning brain I would probably have the equivalent of an iron will, with ADHD I can barely function at normal levels of concentration. Focusing for any length of time feels like trying to do needlepoint while wrestling with a beach ball under water. I can do it but it is exhausting. Yesterday afternoon I took a No-Doz for the first time in nearly two years and suddenly everything was easy, I could sit still and do fine detail work for hours without my attention slipping for a second! And at the end of the day I didn't have a roaring headache from forcing my brain to focus!
So thank you everyone for reminding me that I should not be ashamed of my brain chemical differences. It is not a failure in me if I cannot overcome them by will alone and I should not turn down medication out of fear or embarrassment. Thank you all so much.
