Ed Perry's property named ******head

Robert Byrd was a racist. You think anyone is going to defend him?....

No.

But I think people ought to think twice about criticizing for racial insensitivity Perry - who left the party of Byrd, at the time he was rising to prominence (in the 1980s)., requested a racially charged term to be painted over, and so forth.

Throughout the 1980s, Byrd was either the Senate majority or minority leader.

These actions by Perry show the opposite of the motives that the smear attempt indicates.

Simply stated: Perry left the party of the KKK.

Simply stated: The KKK left that party and has since joined Perry's party.

I'll tell you what. When they dig up Robert Byrd and enter him into an election (think Weekend At Bernie's), I'll be glad to comment on his background. But not in this thread please, so how about we stay on topic.

Hey....tell ya what. Let's start enumerating buildings owned by Democrats that once upon a time had the phrase "Coloreds" over one of the restrooms.

You really want to go down this road?

If those buildings still had those signs well into the 1990's, then that would be an issue.

in other words, what you are saying is that the KKK left the Democtatic party and joined the Republicans.

(Actually, they became the dixiecrats for a while, then they became republican, but the end result is the same.)

Please folks, don't take the bait and then maybe a thread about Perry and ******head can actually be bout Perry and ******head.

No, the evidence does not support that assertion.

The KKK, which used to persecute and intimidate Republicans, died off when it become politically unpopular.

When it was politically popular...you know, like when Truman was a member, or Woodrow Wilson was a member?

Back then?

It was Republicans who stood solidly for civil rights and integration. It's a rather sordid and disgusting relationship, that between the Democratic Party and the KKK. Between 1933 and through the 1960s, Republicans favored civil rights in 96% of the votes, and Democrates opposed them in 80% of the votes. Democratic Senators filibustered the Civil Rights Act of 1964. Including: Byrd, Fulbright, Al Gore Sr, Sam Ervin, and Richard Russel.

So Perry left this motley crew, and joined the Republicans - the group whose spokeman said in 1964, in the debate for the Civil Rights Act:

The time has come for equality of opportunity in sharing in government, in education, and in employment. It will not be stayed or denied. It is here.

Perry left the Democrats in the 60's?

And if those guys were coming of age today, guess which party they would be in? Hint: Elephant.

Political parties are redefined all the time. Political ideologies aren't.

Conservatism is and always has been the ideology that embraces bigotry.

Really? Bigotry a common theme amongst conservative ideology? I don't see any bigotry on the GOP platform. They're true conservatives, right? How come they aren't affiliated with the KKK? Why are their people of all races in the GOP?

That statement is dumber than mhaze's claim that Perry left the party of racism.

Bigotry isn't confined to just racism.

Same-sex couples who wish to marry might disagree.
