Continuation Part 3 - Discussion of the Amanda Knox case

And here is a very important thing indeed:

I have just listened to the verdicts again, in the original Italian and in a translation. Hellmann, in reading the verdict, said the following (my bolding):

"Both the defendants for (charges) A, B, C, D (the charges related to the murder, the staging and the theft) are acquitted, because they did not commit the crimes"

This would appear to suggest to me that Hellmann was explicitly stating that his court did not believe that Knox and Sollecito had anything to do with the murder (or any staging or theft). He did not have to say anything more than announce the acquittal: I think it is highly significant that he attached those additional words. I suspect that we will subsequently find out (through the motivations document and other sources) that the verdicts were 8-0 for acquittal, and that the court indeed concluded that neither Knox nor Sollecito had anything to do with the murder of Meredith Kercher.

I hope that some people in the international media realise what Hellmann actually said during the acquittal, and that it helps quash arguments along the lines of "well, they did it, but their lawyers managed to just raise enough reasonable doubt to get them off".

Congratulations to Amanda and Raffaele!! I'm very happy with the verdict. :)
The motivations will be interesting to read for sure. I really hope they can get their lives back on track. They are both irrevocably changed from the naive kids of 4 years ago but there is no doubt in my mind they will be better and stronger people for what they have endured and I predict great things in their future.

Meredith, rest in peace.

DarthRotor, I consider myself to have won our bet. I look forward to your confirmation of your donation of $50 to the JREF, to further the cause of critical thinking in all areas.

Also: CONGRATULATIONS TO AMANDA AND RAFFAELE ON BEING FREE AT LAST!

That makes two of us Rotor.

ETA. I'm a little annoyed with the lack of coverage of Raffaele but perhaps it's because I watched American coverage., Kiro 7.

Holy Cartwheel, batman

Kudos to you for starting this thread. Yes Amanda was convicted (in the first trial) for nothing more serious than doing a cartwheel in a police station (and a few other odd things. Your OP created a forum where the truth was aired about the case and in some small way improved the chances for AK to be freed. Job well done by you and all the other many posters here.
SkepticGinger,

Yes thank you for starting the first thread. What a great day!

Wow, just Wow. Did we crash the JREF server or something, been trying to bet signed in for 20 minutes now?

I am so happy for Raffaele and Amanda.

I wonder what percentage of the 385 viewers over there are enjoying the meltdown.

Sorry for the double post. This forum is acting crazy for me. I couldn't get on just before the verdict and had to read the play by play on PMF until I found the video link :) a meltdown for sure. I kinda hope they stick around and really scrutinize the evidence so they can believe the verdict was just. For instance, just checking out the toes in the luminol prints a little closer should convince anyone it wasn't Amanda's footprint.

The court went far beyond reasonable doubt. They explicitly stated their belief the charges were false.

I feel sorry for the Kercher family left sitting there stunned by the scum Maresca and his buddies from the prosecution.

I wish all the best to Amanda and Raffaele. I wish they find some peace, recover and heal from the psychological wounds they were dealt. I wish they rebuild their lives and find happiness.

Thank you so much LJ, this is a very important point.

I wanted to also thank you for you insight and dedication to the truth.

My spouse said Amanda was just filmed leaving the prison. Heading to the Airport, hopefully.
