Hi Poppy and thank you,

we like to think of ourselves as skeptical romantics. We live in Seattle so maybe that has something to do with it. Hehehe,

Maresca's in real danger of making a complete fool of himself. He needs to step back and consider what he's actually doing, and whose interests he's being paid to represent.

I have been criticized for stating this before but I will repeat that Maresca's actions are all about MONEY. In the first trial, the Kerchers were awarded IIRC $800K Euros for each parent and $600 Euros for each sib. That's $4,000K Euros - now where is Rudy going to get that kind of money? The only place that kind of coin can be found is in Bari - Raf's trust fund and his dad's fortune. At one time, some thought the Knoxes had millions too but I think it has been shown to be false. Certainly Curt Knox' new job as controller for the Seattle City Opera pays a lot less than his old position as CFO of a big chunk of Macy's. If AK is innocent so is RS. That leaves RG as the lone killer and no pot of gold at the end of the rainbow. I wonder what promises Maresca has made to the Kercher family?

I get the feeling that even if (when?) this appeal finds AK and RS not-guilty, as increasing appears to be the likely case, Maresca will be like the cop that planted the shell casing in the Crewe Double Homicide case. To his dying day he claimed that Thomas was guilty of the crime even though the police evidence against him had been shredded and Thomas was pardoned of any wrong doing.

My whole personal belief is that Knox did kill her daughter. From what I've seen on the news, she has no emotion, I know that if I were going on trial for killing a child I would be in scared out of my mind. You don't even see fear in her eyes, her face, in her anything. I hope they find her guilty and give the death penalty. If you kill a child, you know exactly what you are doing. That's one of the most hanous crimes anyone could do. If you kill someone else's child you deserve to die. If you kill your own child...... No words can express the discust I have. There's a very special place in hell for people like her.

HumanityBlues, Poppy1016, Draca, PhantomWolf, halides1 -- you guys should have let this one stand on its own without comment. It's a classic. :D

Any guesses the number of times - Mignini - shows up in the Massei Report?

Once.

It's a real detriment to the search for truth in this case that one of the main officials involved in the investigations, interrogations and arrests of all four accused of the murder has never been questioned. Because Mignini played this dual role of prosecutor and investigator his testimony doesn't show up. He didn't take the stand, he wasn't cross-examined by the defense. His rash of recent interviews have been very illuminating. I wish we had his official court statements. I think this system allowing him to play both rolls is obviously dangerous to the rights of a defendant.

Im starting to read posts, that declare the reason the Y chromosome, which was declared Sollecito's, was rejected by the independent experts because its actually a female chromosome and not a male chromosome. Has anyone found that in the report? Which begs a bigger question. How could EXPERT Stefanoni make that huge of a blunder?

I agree and, although I have not been in the Kercher's shoes (thankfully), I do not understand them not questioning certain aspects of the evidence and the investigation. Similarly I cannot understand some of the responses to having it questioned, reviewed, and validated or invalidated.

I can only believe there are some legal folks in Perugia who are astonishingly capable of convincing otherwise seemingly intelligent people.

I have always thought of it as a variation on the Stockholm Syndrome. Certain officials served as the Kerchers' primary sources of support and information, and the Kerchers had no choice but to rely on them during the most vulnerable period of their lives. It compounds the Kerchers' tragedy that these officials were not only unreliable sources of truth and competency, but that they took advantage of the Kerchers' vulnerability for their own profit.

I think this comment goes to show how badly out of touch and how seriously damaging to the Kercher family Maresca is. Not only has he blantantly resorted repeatedly to using ad hominem attacks against anyone that dares support RS and AK, to the point where he could be facing his own libel suit, he is so tied up in his own confirmational bias that he can't even see what is right in front of him.

I could understand it from the police or a prosecutor, but form someone that is supposed to be there to represent the victim and help discover the truth, Maresca repeatedly attempted to hide the truth and prevent it from coming out. It's clear he doesn't care about real justice being done in this case, and that reflects back on the very family he should be helping to find the truth, good or bad. Maresca shouldn't have a dog in the fight, his job is to make sure the truth is found, whatever it is, so that the family can learn that truth and move on. Instead all he is after is to lock away RS and AK regardless of what the evidence really says. What a sad little man.

The sad little man does not get paid unless he confirms the convictions of AK, RS. He does not represent the Kerchers in a search for truth. He was hired by the Kerchers to sue for monetary damages. If the only guilty party is RG then he and they get zero because Rudy has nothing. If he can keep the two innocents in jail than he gets a portion of the awarded monetary damages which is quite substantial. (several million has already been granted subject to the appeal) This effort by Maresca stains everyone he comes in contact with. Italy is wrong to combine criminal and civil matters. The family that hired him is responsible for his actions. He works at their behest.

It would be a worry if the court produced expert testimony based on what was politically convenient. If they cooked the report once when it suited them to produce evidence of guilt, why not cook it again to produce evidence of innocence? I don't like the idea that this report has been produced to please the public at all.

Well, that is certainly a skeptical viewpoint, if anyone ever doubted you had one. ;)

Any bets on how much longer they will be in the slammer? For some reason I can see this dragging out, or even having to be appealed again. It's the cynic in me.

...Although I do not share your "being very impressed" with the contributions of the Poster you address this to, I very much do share your argument's well worded gentle admonition to same about the content of his argument's being IMHO constantly borderline impolite, uncivil and rude.

Additionally, egotistically motivated spelling/typo corrections, particularly at the opening of a rebuttal argument (only to opponents) do little other than illustrate a latent inferiority complex sated only by being so deliberately condescendingly aggressive, only toward those who dare argue the other side.

Quite frankly, this is why so many arguing guilt simply reach the enough is enough point here and just walk away from this Forum.
This is much as anyone might choose not to associate with individuals who feel necessary to always discuss or argue things endlessly employing these unsavory hostile slurs..

As a pro guilt poster, I am not now sure if I am a total idiot or as edited later, just a subset idiot.
However since I am one of the very few pro guilt posters remaining, I guess I am therefore 'vocal, and therefore a full fledged idiot.<snip>

pilot, have you considered the possibility that you are not an idiot? When people call you names, it is a reflection on them, not on you.

Do a search on PMF for the number of times it has been published that London John is loony, looney or a loon. Never mind, I'll save you the trouble -- it's 37.

Does that make him a loon?

Stefanoni gets to defend her work in court.

This is the girl that stated she NEVER had a contamination. And if no one ever checked did the tree really fall?

I expect her to be ground into mince meat. She should be imprisoned. She may have a thousand excuses for mistakes but, what excuse can she have for not turning over the electronic data files? Not in the first trial when asked by the defense and not in the appeal until the judge forced her to. This is the proof of her felony. Certainly it was on orders of her boss. The same man who worked in this case as advisor to Mignini!

Does it seem to anyone else that Italian justice Perugia style models itself after the mafia? The prosecutor hires an advisor who happens to be boss of the lab investigating the scientific evidence. The lead scientist finds nothing of two out of three suspects in the first go around and so she returns 6 weeks later and finds the Rosetta stone, along with some glowing blobs which she lies about in court. The prosecutor gets to ask the jury...well these are either blood or turnip juice...you decide.

How do these people sleep at night? How many dishonest acts does it take to keep two innocent persons locked away. And they appear willing to play this out.

I hope the defense lawyers were smart enough to file for immediate release to house arrest or some such. Let the case drag into Sept. But to keep these two jailed one day longer is inhuman. Nothing links them to this crime. No evidence, no witness, no weapon, no motive. What else is there? A kiss, a cartwheel? Well we have come full circle now haven’t we.

Speaking of Casey Anthony.

Did anyone see yesterday's testimony of a traumatologist who explained how different people, especially at a young age (20-25), deal with grief, sorrow and other strong emotions?

She would be a good witness for the defense in Amanda's trial. The woman said that there are hundreds of different reactions when a person is struck by a trauma, such as the loss of a daughter(in Anthony's case it's obviously a little bit different, since she killed her baby) or a friend, or a member of the family. And then she went on to explain that it's no wonder some people choose to laugh or act in an unusual way and some simply cry. All deal with the sorrow in their own way.

LJ, I believe that AK and RS are not guilty by reasonable doubt. As I stated before no one can be certain of guilt or innocence. I believe that everyone has a right to their own opinion of this case. Those that believe in guilt have added a lot to the discussion in most cases.

Most? No way in hell, at least not here at the JREF

Some? Maybe, but you'd have to show some evidence for that

Please everyone, bow your heads in silent memory of Meredith, and pray also for the Knox and Sollecito families that one day they (and the Kerchers) can come together in love and in memory of Meredith,

Amen to that, definitely. And thanks for the post.

Dave (and Caty)

P.S. hope we posted this right.

You may have a problem looming, as there seems to be two of you. The forum has a rule of one person, one account. Sock puppets (one person with more than one identity) are not allowed, and neither is anyone allowed to post from another member's account.

If there are two of you, the one whose details weren't given to the administrators when joining needs to apply for a separate account for himself or herself.
