The Palestinians are in no position to demand ANYTHING. Think Israel will just cave and annex all of the WB just because the Palestinians demand it? Think anyone has the ability to force Israel to do anything they don't want to do?

Just clarifying.

*The Palestinians are in no position to demand ANYTHING
*Think anyone has the ability to force Israel to do anything they don't want to do?

Just so we can be sure to understand the starting positions for any negotiations. Does look a little one sided from here.

I did state both of those points. Do you care to dispute them?

It is more than just a little one sided. Do you want to dispute that?

Because the Palestinians are in a position of weakness when it comes to negotiations, and their position doesn't seem to have improved despite the intifadas, and arguably has deteriorated, don't you think it'd be in their best interest to get to the negotiating table and get what they can now?

Really? You think that because the two sides are not on absolutely equal footing that negotiation is pointless? What do you recommend the Palestinians do, then?

Since "Think anyone has the ability to force Israel to do anything they don't want to do?" is the overriding consideration in force, and "The Palestinians are in no position to demand ANYTHING", what is the point of negotiations? "Not on absolutely equal footing" is an understatement.

far from being "more of the same" Obamas speach was a bit of a revelation. It said to middle east arabs if you are being ruled by people who are not who you want to be ruled by then the US wants to help you...

of course many Israelis and their supporters on this forum want to continue to believe that Obama is happy not to notice their little exception to this rule....that in some way they are going to be able to retain their untermenchen.

You don't think Israel has anything to gain by negotiating a settlement, even though it would likely be heavily in their favor? What do the Palestinians gain by not negotiating?

Do you believe that negotiation can only be successful if both parties are on fairly equal ground?

no, I think Israel will annex at least the majority of the West Bank, because it is their promised land, given to them by God. the rest of the WB, where the Palestinians live, will be turned into enclaves of Palestinian self-rule...much like the Bantustans of SA.

Lots of false premises being thrown around again.

Does this supposed 'opposition' on this forum really think that the Palestinians are on equal or better footing to make demands in the final status agreements here?

And what about the rest of the responses on this forum? Skimming over those again?

Israel kills 6 and wounds 100 Syrians attempting to enter Israel.

Much more effective than our fence with Mexico.

Israel seems to be taking off its mittens.

Not really, since the protests back in May around the same towns/villages didn't yield the same results:

Israeli army northern command, intelligence trade accusations over border breach
However, Northern Command Chief Maj.-Gen. Gadi Eizenkot, who approved the deployment plans of troops in his region in preparation for Sunday's events, took responsibility for the decision not to send more troops to Majdal Shams, the Druze village where the melee unfolded.
...
The confrontation on the Syrian frontier had also revealed that mine fields placed by Israel in the area, designated as an additional layer of defense in case of war, were ineffective.

Hundreds of demonstrators, which included women and children, trudged through the mine field near Majdal Shams unharmed before breaking through the border fence.

Various groups in recent years have reportedly warned that the mines are old, but their call to have them replaced were unheeded, according to the report.

These minefields, as well as those I have personal experience with along the Jordanian border with Israel, are antiquated and consist of not only antiquated mines left over from mostly the '67 war, but unexploded munitions such as mortars dating from the same period.

All in all, there are plenty of signs that state the danger of minefields on both sides. If people don't yield to the warnings, then they deserve a Darwin award.

Life for the Palestinian refugees in Syria must really suck if they're willing to send their women and children into minefields in search of a set of GPS coordinates neither parent or child has likely seen.

There's going to be some issues when those kids get older.

Mom ? Dad ? did you really make me march through a minefield when I was too young to know better ?...I hate you.

Yesterday I had to sit through three hours of "free Tibet" protesters. This Tibet thing has been going on for how long ? Still, the oppression continues and I'm still not having any success convincing these protesters to start a BDS campaign against China, after all, where would they get their iPhones from ?

Now, IMNSHO, I suggest that the Palestinian refugees in Syria hire the Tibetan's PR firm to help get the word out about their oppression and lack of rights under the Syrian regime.

Life for everyone in syria seems to suck. In any case I suspect someone on the syrian side had a pretty good idea that the mines were time expired.

Does anyone know what type of mines they are anyway? Anti personel? Anti tank? Were they new when used or were they left over WW2/Korean war stock?

So normal teenage issues. Although "I've walked through a minefield" is a pretty good teenage boast.

The problem is that syria has quite a collection of ethnic groups so if you start giving the Palestinians special treatment (in syria not being oppressed is special treatment) the rest will be wanting the same and last time that happened it lead to the lebanese civil war.

Israel kills 14 Syrians. Yeah, I'm sure this will make great PR.

Eh it's pretty eassy to spin. Not only is that number lower than the numbers the syrian state has been racking up of late but there certianly appear to be elements of the US right that would like to see a simular approach on the US mexican boarder.

What annoys me is when people who have never been to Israel, or the Palestinian territories, or the Middle East, not only show amazing naivitee (ignoring the "staged plan", about the Arab "staged plan" for Israel's destruction, buying into the "Nakba" lie "narrative", etc.), but declare they know the "one true and just solution" to the conflict.

It's political creationism: amazing ignorance coupled with incredible arrogance.
