Weird Psychology Test

It's quite bizzare, isn't it?

As one person said at the ASF, at this stage it looks worse than astrology.

I'm undecided whether it's total rubbish, or at least somewhat accurate, and whether my result just appeals to my ego. ;) At this stage it doesn't look like it has many results to hand out, though, which doesn't bode well for its accuracy.

I find it interesting that 3 other skeptics who've taken it got the same result as me and no woos (on another forum) did, and that two woos got the same result which contained "psychic disturbance". Of course, the sample size is fairly small. Could just be a random result.

I'd like to see others take their time answering the questions, and see if there are more stock replies, or just the half dozen I've seen.

I didn't take the test, but now I want to see Cabin Boy and Miss Congeniality 2

That was wierd, I am too concrete to answer questions about shapes... the questions made no sense.
Verbally and mentally fluid, you are refreshing and illuminating to those around you. This is occasionally somewhat discounted by the obvious pleasure that you take in exercising your mental acuity. Although generally peaceful you can often take a verbally aggressive tact in relations with the world, which can often be misunderstood by those around you. Innovative in the extreme, you can often think yourself right out of the correct answer to a given problem. Many times you are referred to as your own worst enemy. You tire very quickly of routine and so make poor clerks or administrative help. You also have no respect for authority and little patience for those you regard as inferior, most especially those in charge. Experimentation is your watchword and can occasionally lead to experience for its own sake and shallow decadence. Your thought can sometimes be scattered and disconnected.
My guess is this is a post fit test, they came up with categories and then tested people to see what patterns emeprged. Mighta as well be ranom.

That was hilarious!

Here's what I got (on this occasion, I doubt I would pick the same answers if I did it again - low test-retest reliability is very bad for a personality test):

Though quiet on the outside, you are often the hidden hero; someone who rushes in when needed and then after the emergency is over fades back into the woodwork. Because of this sense of duty and honor, you can also on occasion be rigid in your viewpoint and unyielding in the face of other ways of thinking. Usually cynical and rarely trusting of others, you maintain a small set of intimate friends. These bonds are stronger than most. You are always grounded in the present moment. Your close bonds can also lead to clique-ishness and a tendency to gossip about those who are deemed less worthy. You are an integrative thinker, collecting data from a wide range of sources and applying it to your worldview. You can become overly task-oriented. In stressful situations you often withdraw from the world to seek peace in contemplation. You often seem cold and withdrawn. Often you will withdraw rather than verbalize your discontent.

Meh - some of it accurate, some of it not.

My horoscope said the same thing ... it must be true!

Well...kinda. but I wasn't sure if the A and the B referred to each of the shapes, or if the A and the B were themselves objects whose relationship to the shapes were intended to be analyzed. So I might have done it "wrong" (I went with the second interpretation).

Handy in the real world manipulation of objects and events, you are easily enthused by practical projects. You often ignore or conveniently forget rules and boundaries that limit your freedom. This need for freedom extends even to the personal sphere and though you are kind and gentle, you will often be hard to pin down to a monogamous lifestyle. Because you tend to verbalize so seldom, you can be seen as phlegmatic or impassive. In moments of high tension you can often surprise those around you with a lighthearted or humorous remark. Because of your facility with the physical world, you are often engaged in sports that require dexterity, such as motorcycling or hang gliding. You will rarely have time for flights of fancy or unproductive discussion. Constraints on your freedom will be regarded as a personal attack.

Seems a bit of a generic-fit-everyone blurb....

I got to Q10 and gave up. I could not make any correlation between the options and the shapes and was just hitting any old answer - which makes irrelevant any result, no matter how bogus, that may have resulted.

I'd like those 3 minutes back please Orphia Nay!

There is a complex methodology for evaluating psychological tests that I studied during my psychology degree course many years ago. It involves testing for various types of statistical reliability and validity; if a test doesn't include such data, it's useless.

I got the same old thing. Let's analyze.
Thoughtful to the extreme, you are often obsessed with perfection and the rules governing your own personal interests.
I'm not sure what "rules governing your own personal interests" means.

Your world is black and white. You love to work within a logical system, such as language, computer programming, or mathematics. Manipulating a system that can be completely understood is a distinct pleasure to you, because of your confidence in the underlying veracity of your belief system.
True.

Because of your appreciation for logic and order, those who speak or think in a sloppy manner are apt to generate more than their share of wrath.
I'm not sure wrath is the right word.

Although very amiable, you are not drawn to friendships out of a sense of personal need. You are just as happy by yourself with a good book or puzzle.
Fair enough.

Because you are so involved with thought, you will on occasion have difficulty dealing with the day-to-day problems of a normal life. Taking out the trash, doing the dishes, these are often left until the last possible moment, if at all.
Not even close.

You need to help others and to be thought of as a generous and kind individual. Often you are taken advantage of and regarded as simply part of the scenery. You work best when handling the work yourself; you do not appreciate a managerial role and tend to be uncomfortable in that position. Friendship is important to you, but it is generated on a personal basis, rarely a professional one. Consequently, family life is very important to you, and is often the most important aspect. Because of a strong sense of propriety however, you will sometimes consider the eccentric behavior of your friends and family as a personal affront. Often you find it difficult to speak up about personal anguish or pain, feeling instead that it is something an individual should bear in silence. Tradition is important to you, and you feel a sense of belonging when operating within the constraints of a predictable routine.

This assessment is almost 100% wrong. I am nothing like that. I liked the OP's assessment better -- that fit me more closely. I tried to be honest with the test, but I do admit that at the end, I was randomly picking answers because they made absolutely no sense.

This is a pretty good hoax, I wonder how many years people will be taking it seriously for? The key to the riddle is, where is the experimental data that demonstrates it's viability? In real life, Pierley/Redford would have their careers on the line and would be insulating themselves in data and experiment. People should judge tools by those yardsticks, seems no one bothered to look for that information, is that the point?

That was the stupidest thing I've ever seen. And I saw "Miss Congeniality 2"
Indeed it appears to be incomprehensible gibberish...
My result:
Though quiet on the outside, you are often the hidden hero; someone who rushes in when needed and then after the emergency is over fades back into the woodwork. I also can't answer questions that require me to project emotions and mental states onto shapes.
I was actually thinking about this statement, and found it interesting to consider: that is all movies are, and pictures, etc. Shapes. Moving shapes. And yet people project their emotions and mental states onto art, movies, etc all the time. Even sunsets, sunrises, etc ....

What perhaps makes this test "bizarre" is that the shapes are not human or representative of anything "living" whatsoever (although Dan Brown might disagree :) ). They are null. In order to project emotion and mental states onto them, perhaps, one has to anthropomorphize them or use their imagination to see them differently than as they really are.

I would think this would be detrimental, if a person were ultimately unable to differentiate that a triangle is not "full of sin", or "unsafe", as opposed to a character on a movie screen portraying someone who is "full of sin" or "unsafe". However, if a person was fully aware that it's "just a triangle" ... but was able to project the same type of emotions and feelings onto it as someone allows themselves to do at a movie ... I wonder how that would effect a person's overall "perception" on the world?

One thing I don't like, is that it forces you to choose one thing over another. There is no "other" option, or "neither". So it is already assuming things about my answers based on forcing me into a corner under it's own specifications. It's like a Rorschach inkblot .... only it constrains your response to be within two multiple choice answers. I don't think it's revealing anything about my psyche.

It's like asking me, "was George Bush a great president or the greatest?"

I didn't take the test, but now I want to see Cabin Boy and Miss Congeniality 2
:p ..... and don't forget Rushmore ;)

I got the:

What is amazing about this one is how it is almost exactly the opposite of my personality. I love rules and regulations and feel lost if I don't have a bit of structure to my life. In my work life I enjoy coming up with the best solution that perfectly fits all the requirements and limitations. I am devotedly monogamous and like to focus my attention on a single person or small group whenever possible. I love to talk and am a bit of a couch potato. Oh, and I daydream a lot.

I don't think this analysis could have been more wrong if they had actually been trying to not match me. I hope they don't use this test to actually diagnose mental problems. That would be very foolish.

Don't wish to derail this thread but it has given me an idea I might persue - Start a website that offers a “Free Astrology Readings”. Users enter their astrological details in an online form which when submitted gives them a “personal” online reading. They are then asked to rate their reading online for relevence and accuracy. Everyone receives exactly the same reading. Would be interesting to see if it “works” as well as when Randi and Brown did the same thing live.

Ynot, just remember that you need to be very careful about how you word your "reading". There is an art to making it generic enough that anyone can see themselves in it. As this test demonstrates, if you are too specific you'll loose your mark.
