My argument against materialism

No we're in agreement on that definition.

My point was that in a similar way to peer review, there is an equivalent survival of the fittest when it comes to what I will loosely call theism.

Uh sure, that claim amongst many others is unsupported.

Racism is just as strong, as is homophobia.

You are now continuing to assrt unsupported sillyness. Which is when Pixy will accuse you of drivel.

You see he can't see beyond the end of his nose, it must be stifling in such a small world.

And BAM! There we have it. Your problem is not that the logic, science or observations haven't been explained to you: you WANT the universe to contain something MORE.

Newsflash, Punshhh: the universe will NOT conform to your wishes. Better learn to cope with what it is, rather than force yourself to see it like you'd wish.

I wouldn't have said that, as they are clearly dealing with unverifiable concepts.

And that is where you are very silly, the methods of science may always be used, the fact that some people don't want to look at their cherished half baked assertions is another issue.

Cognitive behavioral therapy.

There is knowledge relating to aspects of life in which science takes little interest or fails to provide much knowledge about. Are we all to wait in bated breath for science to provide the formula for a happy and contented life for example.

Just because you are ignorant of it does not mean it is not there.

You are continuing in your assertion storm.

You're discussing things explained by science, and ignoring, dismissing, or mangling beyond recognition the relevant science as you do so, in favour of, not to put too fine a point on it, ignorant obscurantist mystical crap.

I'd suggest that you try discussing science instead, because that's the only way you are ever going to get anywhere.

There are no special truths to be discovered in Hindu or Buddhist myth.

How did we reach the Moon, punshhh? How did we stop polio and smallpox? How do we communicate with each other on this forum?

I'll give you a hint: It didn't come from reading the Gitas or the Sutras.

Science is the only way we have to answer questions about the world that actually works.

Journal Entry - March 4th, 2011

We have trudged through 29 pages of wilderness, wearing out 4 pairs of shoes a man. As yet, none in our party have witnessed the rumoured-to-exist "point". We are running low on food and supplies, although we do have several boxes of "clues" to give out to any natives who might show an interest.

Yesterday, Smythe made the unfortunate error of asking one of the indigenous about the location of this prized "point"..... we have been finding pieces of him all morning. I can understand his desperation - this journey has been long and arduous and I dont believe we are any closer to this "point" than we were when we started.

Quietly I am starting to doubt this "point" ever existed at all. The map we were given seems to lead us in circles, in what I believe is an attempt to tire us to the point where we no longer care about the existence of the "point".... to what end, I cannot fathom. Morale is at an all-time low, and Im not sure I care about this "point" anymore myself.

Jones' famous stew is beckoning me, and I must source a new pair of boots. Perhaps we will be lucky enough to stumble upon Smythe's legs with boots intact.

I may on occasion appear to be contradictory in what I write, however every word is carefully chosen and I am aware of the full range of implications of my usage of words as I write them.
So you admit to deliberately and knowingly making contradictory posts?

That explains a lot. Out go the last tattered vestiges of 'benefit of the doubt'.

Unfortunately I saw no explanation of what energy is(is constituted of).
The question of what energy consists of does not make sense. Energy is not a type of thing--it is a generic name for a measurement of something's ability to do work.

Take gravitational potential energy for example. That "consists" of matter's being a particular distance away from the surface of more matter.

There is knowledge relating to aspects of life in which science takes little interest or fails to provide much knowledge about. Are we all to wait in bated breath for science to provide the formula for a happy and contented life for example.

Now you are being even more silly than you usually are.

"akin" and "confirm" are the issue here I think. If you had used "verify" instead of confirm, my answer would have been quite different. By "akin" I am refering to a process where by the ideology is read discussed and is adopted or rejected on its own merits.

I may on occasion appear to be contradictory in what I write, however every word is carefully chosen and I am aware of the full range of implications of my usage of words as I write them.

Please buy a dictionary and check the meanings of the words before you post them. It would be best if you stuck to the universally accepted meanings.
