Bill O'Reily challenges scientest to explain how moon got there...

Even worse, when I tell people I am generally a conservative, the first thing they usually say is "Oh, you must watch Bill O'Reilly or Glen Beck". At which point I have to explain the difference between a conservative and an idiot. Beck/O'Reilly/Palin/etc are embarassments to true conservatives.

They must be bad, everyone knows conservatives don't embarrass that easily. ;)

he doesn't really challenge scientists to explain how the moon got there.

It just might be possible that at one time he was told or read how the moon got there and he basically had a brain fart and it has temporarily slipped his mind. His moon comment is a small part of his overal little video blog. But once again we are gleeful in our success of finding a sound byte we can take out of context from a right wing neocon and pat each other on the back for finding something that makes them look like idiots because the Left Wingers look like idiots 24-7.
Did you watch the Colbert clip where he repeatedly states the same thing at different points of his life, on camera?

In other words, evidence trumps belief, and no, it is not possible, and no, it is not a sound bite, and yes, you are wrong for making assumptions without evidence.

Is it like the difference between a bachelor and an unmarried man?

Sorry, it was such a softball...

Look there's a cloud! How did it get there? Hey? Who put it there? Heh? How'd that cloud get there? It just got there? Nobody put it there? How did that cloud get there? You pinheads are just desperate! How come we have that cloud and Mars doesn't? Why not? How did it get there? Come on, we have order in this universe! You atheists are desperate! Why do we have that cloud? Can you answer that?

Good Grief!

Bill O'Reilly says what he needs to say to appeal to his audience. Talking like he does has made him wealthy and famous. We can't know what he really believes.

Jupiter does not wobble in the orbit.

Of course it does. Any gravitationally bound system of two bodies will orbit a common centre of mass. Jupiter's wobbles are smaller because the difference in mass is much larger, but they're still very much there.

A further complication - the Moon is moving away from Earth. At some point in the future the barycenter will be outside the defined point of the Earth's surface

No it won't. The Moon is currently moving away from the Earth, but that does not mean it will do so indefinitely. Eventually they would become locked in a spin-orbit resonance, with their barycentre still well inside the Earth. However, this won't actually happen since the Sun will die and screw things up long before there has been time to get to that state.

Interestingly, the Jupiter/Sun barycentre does lie outside the Sun.

In other words, he might not just be spreading dangerous misinformation, he might be a hypocrite as well.

Colbert sums it up nicely: "All Bill is saying is God is the answer to everything. And where does God come from? That's easy....Oh God. That can't be answered with God. I mean how could he make himself if he wasn't there yet to make him? Therefore there is no god and everything is just a chaotic collection of random energy with no meaning."

You'll have to watch it for the final punch line.:D

Thursday February 3, 2011 Segment on "Crisis in Egypt - Anderson Cooper & Bill O'Reilly", starts at 2:30 minutes.

Your link takes you to the Colbert site, then we have to search for the clip. Here's a link that will take you directly to the clip (and yes, it's hilarious) :p

.... a Catholic priest..would have had Bill on his back in five minutes .......

Must ... resist ..... the ....... nope, cant do it.

Well, isn't that just typical! Do you think he'd be the first? BYO loofah.

There it is done.

I think part of this is that O'Reilly is desperately trying to out-stupid other personalities on Fox News in order to seem "relevant", so he is going to make ever more stupid arguments as time goes on.

Well, O'Relly might be in a close race with Glenn Beck for stupid, but he'll never come close for batcrap crazy.
