Someone please call them to explain a 'red-shift'

And what does this stuff do to the light? How, exactly, does the stuff redshift the light?

read the thread versus your own rants.

the thread has links and clips and pubs from all over the world (one place).

Now you go back and read it.

When you begin to recognize that i aint here to make you happy, then you may learn to be responsible for your own actions and learn because you want too.

i have learned good are do'ers the idiot dont wanna

The colour of the light doesn't change; it is just projected onto a different part of the wall.

perhaps read this

http://lifeng.lamost.org/courses/astrotoday/CHAISSON/AT304/HTML/AT30401.HTM#spectroscopy

SO you can understand how spectrum/spectral lines/shifts/ and the basics

Then come back and tell this forum what affects the 'colors'?

Is it the atomic structure combined with the energy (state) of the mass, that affects the light

http://lifeng.lamost.org/courses/astrotoday/CHAISSON/AT304/HTML/AT30402.HTM#Bohr model

when you read these, then converse within using their material (i find this over seas interpretation kicks the butt out of most, it is because they maintain what is usable to practical application combining with observed phenomenon. That means, there is math to back it up without having to adher to one philosophical rendition)

they be wavin it up!

Once again: the prism (and the glass of water) are not changing the colour of the light - they are just refracting different colours by different angles.

if i shine a light thru a hole and then into a prism, you will see the pattern on the wall, now put a glass of water just past that prism to capture the whole emission; did the pattern on the wall "shift" from the previous location?

dahhhh

LOL and you called me ignorant........

classic.

Whole lotta 'quivocation goin' on! Let's nail down some terms:

Deflecting a light beam by bouncing it off a mirror is called 'reflection'.

Changing the path of a light beam is called 'deflection'.

Deflecting a light beam by passing it through a medium is called 'refraction'.

Splitting a beam of white light into its spectral components by passing it through a prism is called 'diffraction'.

Removing parts of the spectrum is called 'filtration'.

Scattering light is called 'diffusion'.

The sky is blue because dust and nitrogen molecules in the Earth's atmosphere scatter the blue light from the sun, but let the longer wavelengths pass through. The reddening of the sun's light at sunrise and sunset is caused by the sun's light passing through more of the Earth's atmosphere during those times than at mid-day, thus scattering most of the wavelengths shorter than red.

The Doppler Effect produces a red-shifted or blue-shifted spectrum, and while the Doppler Effect has been observed in both sound and light, the audio and video spectra are not the same thing -- sound is the result of rapidly changing pressure in a solid, liquid or gaseous medium, while light is the result of rapidly oscillating quanta. Sound requires matter to propagate, while light does not require any medium at all to propagate.

The Doppler Effect changes the apparent wavelength of light. Red shift, for example, can be caused by relative axial motion between the light source and the observer, an intense gravity field at the light source, or the general expansion of the universe.

Just checked in again to see if Bishadi had come up with an alternative explanation for the cause of intergalactic red shift.

I see he hasn't.

Bishadi, I've reread the thread, I don't see where you explain what the mass or energy does to the light to redshift it. Your entire argument seems to be that em is only affected by mass or energy. If you did say it, and I missed it, I apologize. I'm not sure if english is your first language or not, but I find your writing to be difficult to follow at times. So, could you please say what, exactly, you think that the matter or energy in space is doing to the light? And could you also say whether or not you think that space and time can affect light?

Do you want an alternative explanation or one that actually explains how it works?

i will copy somthin for you, that was left by another on the site

Like propagates from and to mass; all cases (no such thing as light going thru a empty space (a vacuum) as when you find a perfect vacuum anywhere within the universe, you can then test that FACT.

The Doppler Effect changes the apparent wavelength of light. Red shift, for example, can be caused by relative axial motion between the light source and the observer, an intense gravity field at the light source, or the general expansion of the universe. from the items about like refraction, etc..... but space aint expanding from nuttin honey

i stroked off the lost speculation parts and put in blue, the mosterestest bestest reality

And the piece of cake acts like a prism?

wrong thread.

you wedge the prism between original source as it becomes the redshifting medium. Which is a little different than a wedge cake going in with color and coming out dark matter. (be sure to flush)

the piece of cake was that common sense kicks the pants off of the hubbble muddle of space expanding as an explaination to the spectral shifts of light from way way way far away galaxies.

common sense tells is all, there is lots of mass between us and them original sources (galaxies).

Oh noes its teh luminiferous aetherWP! :jaw-dropp

Luminiferous Aether?!!

This must be a Bishadi thread!

What next, tarot readings and natal horoscopy?

Frequency=speed/wavelength
Guess what? Slow it down and change wavelength=same frequency...
and as I understand it, photons HAVE to travel at C in whatever medium they are in. C for glass is slower than it is for a vacuum.
That's what happens to light in water/glass/plastic.

lots of mass between the earth and the rest of the universe.

piece of cake
Sadly, you have failed to show that light passing through mass gets red shifted.

Can you provide an example of light passing through some matter and having its frequencies shifted lower? So far you have not.

you wedge the prism between original source as it becomes the redshifting medium.

Keep up. We have established that prisms do not increase wavelengths of light passing through them, they reduce them. Also, the effect only exists while the light is passing through. When it emerges, it has its original wavelength and its frequency never varies. No red shift. Ever.

Do you have problems remembering inconvenient facts, or do you just ignore them hoping they will go away?
