• Quick note - the problem with Youtube videos not embedding on the forum appears to have been fixed, thanks to ZiprHead. If you do still see problems let me know.

Will the internet survive energy contraction?

Maybe you think it doesn't count because some of it was built by nonwhite people?

Of course not. Blacks for example have built some of our best structures, by the direction of a whip of course ;)

Well, we have to keep in mind Wikipedophile (they until very recently hosted child porn) isn't always right...

In that case I suggest that you use it when it agrees with your preconceived notions and disregard it when it does not.

Reread that post with the understanding that it's advice. "suggest" should be read as in "Its a nice day outside, any suggestions?"
"Sure, I suggest we take a walk."

Alright, so you want me to consider sources that "agree with my preconceived notions", and disregard them when they don't? Why is that?

Sure, I just find it unlikely that you rarely use it, but you happened to use it an hour and a half ago. Maybe I'm wrong though.

You're wrong. I wouldn't trust Jimmy Wales to wash my dishes, let alone my academic knowledge.

Anyway, have you found anything that's going to stop a hydro plant from using the power it produces to do repairs and maintenance?

Well since all the repairs are done so by petro feedstocks, it seems kind of a non issue. But sure, theoretically it can be repaired with it's own power, I suppose.

OK, you're the manager of a 125MW, five-turbine power plant. Power is worth $1/kWh so this thing is earning the boss $3M/day. One of the turbines breaks down (it needs some welding; the welding machine draws 50kW). The plant's power output drops to 100MW and the revenues drops by $600,000/day. The boss calls you up and tells you to fix it. Do you:

a) Tell him that "it's kind of a non issue" since these repairs "are done" with petro feedstocks
b) Tell him that "theoretically" it can be repaired with its own power, but you'd rather live on a farm
c) Do the repair with some of the actually-available-right-in-front-of-you power

lordy, it didn't take long for the racism to resurface. I predict another 2 pages before he gets back to eugenics.

As I pointed out a few pages ago, ammonia is a perfectly acceptable substitute for petroleum for portable power applications and it has a history of being made in bulk quantity from hydropower. Were making good headway in more efficiently producing ammonia from electricity using technology borrowed from fuel cells. You can make synthetic gasoline, diesel, methanol, dimethyl ether and other liquid fuels from electricity if you really insist; but those would be much more practical if made from a biomass feedstock. We're making good headway on miniaturizing fischer-tropsch and syngasification to the hundreds of bbl/day level.

Because it's what you've done all through the thread. Hence the sarcasm from Roboramma. It would be nice if you didn't, but there doesn't seem to be much likelihood of that.
