Prinz Kanal u. Kaserne b. Neuville

Prince canal and barracks near Neuville(-Day)
Also on the Canal des Ardennes, only like 3 miles east of Rilly. I would guess it was the French army that lost this particular quarter.

Voncq

Another small village nearby. Soldiers parading the main street.

This old church still stands. Its clock, and the house on the right, are gone: Google Street View

Aisne Brücke bei Rilly.

Rilly.

The sign on the right says

Viehtränke (livestock trough)
Waschen (washing)
STRENGSTENS VERBOTEN (strictly forbidden)

The last is only a guess. Maybe it's my German genes that make me read that :p

The sign on the house reads, in French:

Le Petit Journal (The Little Newspaper)
****re la jour (??? the day)

Mill near Semuy
(Strange that they have water mills in a canal that is regulated with a large number of locks)

Tents as hangars:

Crashed and... stripped off canvas.

Horse-and-carriage were still important to the troops
