First to the OP, kind of preaching to the choir don't you think?
You have basically just said "snap out of it".
Of course no one really takes morals from the bible. At best, you already have morals and project their origin from the bible.
This is why you have people that tell you that abortions are wrong according to the bible and people that tell you that abortions are correct according to the bible.
Heck, as mentioned in the other thread, apostasy is clearly commanded by god in the bible and yet some people make the mental gymnastics around it to say that it is forbidden by it somehow.
But just yelling "snap out of it" is meaningless.
I always thought the whole 'do unto others as you would have them do unto you' is a pretty darn good rule of thumb.
And I personally find it to be quite an abominable approach. Sure, it seems nice on the surface but there's actually a hidden meaning in there.
Consider this: If you are willing to die for your faith, and you are willing to do unto others as you would have them do unto you - what does that tell you?
Is it any wonder the verse of love thy neigbhour (leviticus 19) appears right before a list of massive executions for religious crimes (leviticus 20)?
The whole issue of loving your neigbour the same way you love yourself means that you get to judge them by the standards of your own twisted religious faith.
What are the only reasons The Bible should be read?
What are the reasons The Bible should not be read?
Simple. Same reasons you read harry potter or shakespear or any other book for that matter.
Same reasons you shouldn't read harry potter or shakespear or any other book for that matter.
Exactly, and this is why the bible mentions homosexuality maybe three times, yet evangelical Christians seem to think it's God's number 1 concern. You don't selfishness or excess showing up on too many ballot initiatives.
Sorry, but 154 is actually correct on this one.
The issue with homosexuality isn't a big deal to christians, it's a big deal in politics. It's a "hot topic" currently which is why it is constantly being discussed. Same way slavery was a major issue once and not so much today.
Imagine yourself in this possibility.
Because perhaps it's a certainty.
Nope. It's not certainty. That's the first place where your silly pascal's wager is worthless.
Now if you want to say it's a possibility, then I'll point out that the jews will say it's a possibility you'll meet god and he will punish you for worshiping a false messiah.
That is why pascal's wager is moronic. It claims it is "safer" to believe than disbelieve, however, it doesn't tell you what the right belief is.
And you can't cover all faiths at the same time cause they contradict each other.
Of course it also assumes your god is a complete moron who doesn't realize you're faking it in the first place.
