Evidence for why we know the New Testament writers told the truth.

Who are you talking to?

God didn't say any of the stuff in the bible. In any case this thread is about the New Testament.

Go on! Really?

How did we miss this before?

My whole post was sarcasm mocking the excuses that many Christians use to defend the content of the Bible.

Horus and the Grail?

Now that's a new one for me... Got any references?

:)

Sir Horus Falconer--strangely he is often omitted from Arthurian stories. He was not quite as pure as Galahad, not quite as misogynistic as Bors and not quite as stupid as Perceval.

Was he as brave as Robin?

I think I need to check my glasses. I totally missed the "r" in the ultimate word. Totally changed the meaning. Just as funny, but the meaning is scewed a different direction.
.
There's a missing 'r' in that last sentence -- I leave it to the viewers at home to determine where...
.
I tried a year ago or so and basically nothing came out ...
.
You know, they have pills for that now...

Some drongo busted me ignorance meter, so I can't give you an indication on that.

I see this thread is has become a shambles. Furthermore, not an inkling of evidence for why the gospellers told the truth.

From a secular point of view the degree to which the Gospel writers told the truth is interesting I think.

There are two questions:
* What of what they claimed was true?
* What of what they claimed did they understand to be fiction?

The first question has been discussed quite a bit in the various "Was there an historical Jesus?" threads. My personal view is that there is very little truth in the the Gospels but there is some and that can provide hints to the nature of Jesus and the history of the very early church.

The second question hasn't been discussed very often around here. My cut at that is that writing Jesus fiction became something of a fad in the first century and that the people who wrote the Gospels knew that they were creating fiction and did it for the reasons that people promote religion today. 1. It gave them some cred in the local community because they appeared to have special knowledge. 2. There were some financial benefits associated with it. 3. While they may have known they were making stuff up they may also have been true believers and justified their actions because lying to promote what you believe in can feel justified.

Another question is when did the lying stop and the fiction of the earliest writers and story tellers come to be accepted as fact by the later writers and promoters of Christianity.
