To be fair, if Celine Dion had said:Agreed. As they (quite rightly) pointed out, if Celine Dion had come out with a song about rainbows and stars being "miracles", everyone would have said it was beautiful.
To be fair, if Celine Dion had said:
" I’ve seen miracles all around me, stop and look around its all astounding, water, fire air and dirt, f***** magnets, how do they work? I don't want to talk to a scientist, yall MF lying and getting me pissed, "
I'm sure people would be complaining.
I think the problem has to do with willfull ignorance more than poetic language.
Really?
"Every drop of rain that falls in sahara desert says it all
Its a miracle" - Queen
"You're my life's one miracle, everything I've done that's good"- Celine Dion
"Gonna take a miracle to save us this time"- Bon Jovi
"Oh baby, baby, baby, love is a magic word, yeah, If only you believe in miracles, baby So would i." Jeffercon Starship
"But I pray for small miracles too" Blue Rodeo
"Miracles happen when you're around The sunset is deeper and longer The scent of the jasmine is stronger" Pet Shop Boys
"But if I had to pick a miracle, my favorite miracle of all is you, and
me. " Frank Sinatra
"Who knows what miracles You can achieve When you believe" Mariah Carey
"I Believe in Miracles" Pearl Jam (Ramones cover)
Just about everyone explains what they don't understand in a song, a miracle. I see a lot of love, sunsets and nature called a "miracle".
I can find more lyrics, in fact there are tons in this thread alone, where lyrics describe something as mystical or magical. It's a common practice in song writing.
And to be fair they would be complaining about her language, not her use of the word "miracles".![]()
Nobody is saying you'll see Celine Dion on Jeopardy any time soon![]()
Not at all. I would be complaining that she is encouraging an anti-science perspective. In fact, I would hold her more accountable.
As it stands, ICP is a joke band and people shouldn't take them seriously with that song.

I think that there is a difference between making a passing remark to miracles for one verse and dedicating the whole song to them and calling each example a miracle.
In the case of that particular song, that these mundane events are actually miraculous is the core of the song.
The verse 'I don't want to talk to a scientist, yall MF lying and getting me pissed' shows that this ignorance is deliberate...
)And no, ICP are not joking. Just read some interviews with them, the song miracles was serious, and so was the song I posted above.
The problem is that they actively encourage the "LEARNING IS STUPID" thing even in interviews and the like. It seems like they actually think science is a bad thing.
Here's you "blah blah blah this is what they meant" (with all due respect)
Here's the artist: "I know the stuff isn’t really miracles. I think we might have misused the word miracle. I think that might mean something that has happened with no explanation. These things we mentioned in the song, they can all be explained. But what we’re doing is appreciating them. Even the infamous line, “Magnets, how do they work?” I mean, yeah, we know how magnets work. But they’re still incredible. You can push something across the table without touching it. And as a kid, I found that fascinating. I still find that fascinating."

Well, isn't that nice. They promote an ignorant and airheaded outlook on life, and that doesn't change the line "I don't wanna talk to a scientist, yall' mother ****ers lyin', and gettin' me pissed.
Yep, all those hoards of Juggalos are in to them for their great satire.

The Guardian said:Insane Clown Posse: a magnet for ignorance

...
... In this TV interview, filmed shortly after the Miracles video went viral, the host presents Insane Clown Posse with a book called The Way Things Work, featuring a chapter on exactly how magnets work. They do not, it's fair to say, look particularly happy.
"It's a lot funner being the dumb guy, because then you get to appreciate the beautiful things like all the miracles we talk about," says Violent J.
"Science can be real exciting," concedes Shaggy 2 Dope. "But I'd rather get what we call p**sy. Know what I'm saying?" Well, quite.
I've never seen any evidence of this oft-repeated legend.
I don't believe that. A gimmick can make up for a lot of stupid.
