Australia

A bit easy (and no, I didn't cheat):

1) Sydney Harbour Control tower. See it daily.
2) Institute of Technology, Melbourne (which only makes it uglier still).
3) Hamilton Island, Whitsundays. That's a dreadfully old pic too, by the looks.
4) A "beehive". Or more correctly, Pullermunt Huss, Wullungtun, Unzud.
5) A tree at which you can dig.
6) A nasty run of crabs for Christmas.
7) Shark Bay, WA - stromatolites. One of the oldest living forms of life on Earth.

3) Yeah, I'm sorry about that picture but it's the only one I have that showed the whole island. It was only taken in 2007, and the reason it looks so crappy is that the slackers at Virgin Blue the unnamed airline I flew with don't bother cleaning the windows between flights.

4) Ut us undied. Will dun.

Youse did good.

:)

2) Did a check. I got the wrong name. It's actually RMIT - Royal Melbourne Institute of Technology. :boggled:
3) Hamilton Island was the destination for the first all-female crewed commercial jet airline flight in Australia (Brisbane to HI return, 1975 from memory).
4) Walked past the Beehive every day I worked in Wellington. It's a very nice city! But cold!
5) What other tree in the outback by a creek would have its own plaque and boardwalk??
6) Heh! Christmas Island! What with all the boat people and detention centre talk just now... ;)
7) Shark Bay featured in David Attenborough's "Life on Earth" TV series, now over 20 years old i think. A totally brilliant piece of science and TV which renewed my own interest in the natural sciences.

I thought you were just being all republican about it.

:)
Oh no, I don't mind stuff still being "Royal" anything. That's OK by me as long as our supreme Head of State is Australian, and is Australian resident, and is selected by Australians. Stay in the Commonwealth, keep playing Test cricket... ;)

Keep the "Royal" bit as a bit of history and continuity! The Hawaiian flag still has a Union Jack on it, from its days as a British colony (or was that protectorate...).

What don't you like about RMIT?

Is this one of those Australia is a myth threads? If it is, I agree.

Actually, in this thread we explain how Australia is the only real place and the rest of the world is a myth.

The edit might have clarified what I was referring to.
No worries! I actually like Melbourne quite a lot even though I'm a Sydneysider currently. It's familiar enough to be comfortable, but different enough to be very interesting.

Although the "black is the new black" vibe in the city in winter is a bit underwhelming... Get some colour, people! ;)

Black is always in fashion in Melbourne, especially in winter.

My fashion forecast is that black and white will be the big thing in Melbourne come September.

Yes, and then in october you'll find them in bargain bins after yet another embarrassing choke.

Never have I heard more about a team that has one only 1 premiership in over 50 years.
