Evidence for why we know the New Testament writers told the truth.

It is amazing the mental contortions some people will make when they find out their assumptions are wrong. :boggled:
Yrreg Logic: You are too aggressive, physically active and intelligent to be a woman therefore you must be a man missing his man-bits.

Yrreg concluded that Hokulele is a transsexual and therefore does not count.

I got a bit tired of him, and have not paid attention since Hokulele's ladyparts were proof of god. :D
Guess he changed his mind since?

Maybe those Christian husbands should try not to be wrong all the time, then their wives wouldn't have to disagree with or question them.
Not much of a christian wife there. :)
BTW: I am having a Schlenkerla Rauchbier from Bamberg, it tastes a bit of smoked bacon. :)

Wow, that really happened?

Yep. He spent several posts asking me directly if I "were now, and had always been, a woman". After being told "Yes, I am now and have always been female" several times, he decided that must mean I am transgendered. It was certainly good for a laugh or three. I may try to dig up that thread for you unless a mod comes by and spanks us for being wildly off-topic again.

Hokulele,
You do not have to answer such personal questions if you are not comfortable with it. :D

After the yrreg "Hokulele's Naughty Bits" thread, there is very little that makes me uncomfortable. Mind you, I don't want people to go around making posts about my naughty bits on a regular basis, but it couldn't possibly get any worse than that one, could it?

This is a pubic forum.

Completely off topic, I know, but I do have to say that I love that beer. Never usually have more than a bottle at once* but it is fantastic. They also do a weissbeir version, which is a little more mild and less intensely bacon-tastic.

* by which I mean after a bottle I usually go onto something else. Not that I usually drink with a bottle of beer in each hand!

Think bacon flavoured beer will give us the answer whether the gospelers told the truth in writing their myths gospels?

It could. After all, the Gospel of Levi indicates that Jesus advocated eating bacon. Doesn't mention beer, but I think that has more to do with wine being the pota franca of the day.

If you can show the principles have extremely high merit compared to other principles of the day and other religions***, in my opinion that is evidence they could have come from a perfect being (aka God).
According to that argument we should all be worshipping Samuel Smith.

Indeed. And the Nut Brown Ale is to die for! ;)

On a more serious note, from the time I joined until just now*, I've been reading through this thread, interested in evidence for the NT and having quite a few laughs along the way. Although I was already an atheist, I must say that the evidence** presented in this thread has only bolstered my position, and I have a much firmer grasp of logical fallacies.

So what do I get for making it all the way through? :D

* And that's with taking a week off to ride my bike across the state of Iowa!

** Using both Doc's and "our" definitions.

*** IMO, things like the Humanist Manifesto have WAYY more merit than any religious creed I've read thus far. So much for God...

Brain damage. I can provide am evidence for this.

Here's a clip that I posted earlier in this thread's evil twin in R&P. Hopefully it's a refreshing change from watching poor, innocent logics being tortured.

Welcome to the zoo, Scott.

Akhenaten,
This is my second friend that I've introduced to this thread. Am I a bastard or what? :D

So, no evidence then. Shame.
I think that there is merit in the idea that one may take the best from those philosophies that one encounters,
and meld them into a personal philosophy that one may sign, or leave unsigned.

Perhaps the gospelers were writing the truth as they heard it. The birth and death of a Jesus like character could have happened centuries before, not necessarily several decades before. With the evidence at hand now, there's no way of knowing.
One thing is sure, Christianity did not become so widespread until Constatine's time in the third century, some 270 years after the supposed Jesus existed.

In the "Do Most Atheists know that Science..." thread I mentioned Norman Geisler and Frank Turek's book called "I Don't Have Enough Faith to Be an Atheist" a few times because of its clear explanations of scientific theories. But, yes, they did talk about more than science.

In chapter 11 of their book they give the top 10 reasons we know the New Testament writers told the truth. I'll mention some of those reasons and maybe expound on them as time permits.

to even suggest that the "authors" of the nt told the truth is without scientific merit. Biblical scholars do know that most of the nt was not written by those given credit for writing them. it is even known that some were plagiarisms of pre-yeshua texts. :jaw-dropp
People who read texts to exploit the christian mas market and believe them are just counting themselves along with the lemmings.

By many accounts, Satan has a very good marketing department.

"The Greatest Trick the Devil Ever Pulled Was Convincing the World He Didn't Exist" and so-forth.

If you believe, it's because he's real.
If you don't, it's because he's fooled you.

it would appear, from the writings here and having actually heard a couple of fire and brimstone style sermons (I needed a laff and it got me laid), that christianity goes out of its way to promote satan. it great for business! pass the hat and keep satan out of your pockets. hehehe

love the mentality of christians, it provides so much insight into how de-evolving the human mind happens.
Didn't Pavlov do similar experiments?
