I'd like to see some fossil evidence. No matter how stealthy bigfoot might be it has got to die, and even if they bury their dead, there has got to be a fossil trail. We have fossil evidence for critters that haven't been alive for millions of years, and fossil evidence for every large mammalian species that still dwells in N America, so why not for sasquatch? Why does it get to benefit from special rules that don't apply to every other species?

I've been through this 9 ways to Sunday over on the BFF and it's amazing to see the special pleading invoked to explain away the lack of any fossilized or other prehistoric material. Well-worn chestnuts include: the fossil record is incomplete, nothing fossilizes in those acidic forest soils, no one's looking for bigfoot fossils, and (a personal favorite) we already have found their fossils but they're mislabeled as human in a drawer in the Smithsonian.

The last one is a doozy.

This is because the alternative is unacceptable. The alternative to special pleadings is the adoption of the belief that Bigfoot does not exist. This instantly destroys the hobby of believing in Bigfoot.

You can clearly see that the hobby of Bigfoot belief is not based in typical logic, rationality or reason. It's based on a Silly Putty version of those things. A skeptic (such as you or me) would be mistaken to think that offering a clear outline of the problem of no fossils would suddenly cause a lightbulb to turn on and transform the position of the Bigfoot believer. It doesn't.

The investigator didn't interview the granddaughter? The incident could be fictional or altered by gramps.

What the witness reported was most likely vocalizations from two sasquatches, as no other animals make the sounds that this witness described.

Except meth-heads hanging out in the culvert.

Well, it did for me, or at least 'no fossils' was a cornerstone of my conversion/illumination/realization that such an animal was, after all, extremely unlikely to exist.

But then, I already had a scientific/skeptical/agnostic worldview. All I needed was this forum and its members to provide me with information and insight I had been lacking.

Surely there are others out there who conform to this pattern.

But you should have already known that no Bigfoot fossils exist. Bigfoot fossils would be a front page science news topic. No such science news topic appeared.

ETA: Maybe I should say that you never had the personality type of a true Bigfooter. When a simple "no fossils" argument can convert you... you ain't no Bigfooter material. :D

True, but I can see that there are folks out there who would be influenced by those types of 'footer special pleadings because they're generally just ignorant of the richness of our fossil record. When I can confront those people with information about, for example, the number of large mammal fossils we have from forested environments, the potential is there to place that lack of bigfoot remains in better (and more damning) perspective.
