Merged Israel Attacks Palestinian Aid Flotilla, According To Reports

No, they thought the transmission came from the Mavi Marmara. An easy assumption to make given the violent stabbing incident that started the firefight.

The fact remains, someone on that channel said the most hateful thing they could come up with to inflame and infuriate the Israeli servicemen.

it's revealing that you don't think whoever it was bears any responsibility for the fight.

I doubt the purpose was to inflame, but I do think it's indicative of the mind-set of many from that end of the political spectrum, as well as the tolerance on the far left for that particular form of ugliness.

There is, in that case, no hope for peace.

Rolfe.

Because....why?

Generally wars come to an end when the different parties make an agreement to end the war. Sometimes that happens after one side soundly defeats the other side, other times it's just when they get tired of the devastation and expense war causes.

Balance...think of the Falkland Islands war, there was no balance there, yet the hostilities were over quickly and peace ensues.

An interesting find by bloggers:

First, Reuters are at it again. They apparently edited pictures from the Turkish ship to crop out knife wielding activists, as well as blood, presumably from the Israeli soldiers. See here. (Warning, original includes some blood, so do not view if that would bother you.)

Then, another blogger notices that the knife used is a combat knife, and furthermore, it does not appear in the pictures of knives captured by the IDF. The blogger than speculate that the Turkish activists may have thrown some weapons overboard.

As always, with bloggers investigating from afar, it is hard to be sure. However, it seems to me they got it right in this case.

Uh, that's the Muslim Brotherhood's website.

In all fairness, it's reporting on a news story out of Greece, apparently, so it's not making the claim.

Are there any Greeks among us (or anyone who reads Greek/knows where to find this) that can perhaps find this 'left-wing' paper and verify the story?

The combat knife being thrown overboard is a little more speculative - but the photo cropping - one step away from photoshopping really. Although one might argue the IDF have 'cropped' all the video footage of the event, and not unreasonably.

There's a reason it's known as "Al-Reuters".

Perhaps JJ can comment on this statement too … by Othman Batirri?

The veracity of that is challenged by what is seen in the video tapes already posted to this forum.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HZlSSaPT_OU "Flotilla Rioters Prepare Rods, Slingshots, Broken Bottles and Metal Objects to Attack IDF Soldiers" (from security cameras on the Mavi Marmara)

Those preparations don't jib with his "peaceful" description.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=B6sAEYpHF24 "Mavi Marmara Passengers Attack IDF Before Soldiers Board Ship"

In the second one, you can see a box of plates, a stun grenade, as well as other material are thrown down onto the boarders' boat. Long chains are being swung at the occupants. Metal rods, wooden clubs and chairs are being brandished. That doesn't look very "peaceful" to me.

No, they need to taste some Israeli lead. They deserve death.

By the way, Jane, here's a question I haven't heard answered. Why were there so many people (over 500) on this small ship? The videos show them scurrying about like rats and almost in equal numbers to the rats that must have been on that ship. Why such a large number only on this ship? Why wouldn't the other ships need similar numbers? What purpose did they serve in the context of it being an aid ship? Were that many really needed to distribute whatever was on the ship when it arrived? Were any of them doctors or the equivalent, on their way to treat the people of Gaza? I haven't heard of that being the case. Don't you think the space they required could have been put to better use holding real aid for the people of Gaza? Like food? And finally, why did so many of the "activists" lack IDs and instead carry envelopes filled with cash ($10000 each, according to reports)? Don't you think there are cheaper, faster and safer ways to get cash to the poor people of Gaza, if that's what they need? The money was intended for them, right? Because if it wasn't, what was it for, Jane? And if money is what Gazans need, why don't we just skip this whole aid ship nonsense and just mail them cash? If money really is what Gazans need, maybe those 500+ "activists" should just have gotten real jobs back home and sent some of what they earned to Gaza? Hmmmmmm?

Do you have an answer to any of these questions, Jane? Or are you going to continue regurgitating your own delusions and the inconsistent lies of those you cite as witnesses to those delusions? Because if that's your only response, I'll have to laugh at you. :D

It's instructive that you perceive your fellow humans as vermin.

Yes, I've noticed how everything that comes from any source that might be described as "pro-Palestinian" is dismissed as either unreliable or unlikely to be true.

That might have something to do with the Palestinians' track record in this regard.

Every pro-Israeli source is the unvarnished, honest-to-goodness truth, I suppose? :oldroll:

Compared to the average Palestinian news source, astrology columns are unvarnished, honest-to-goodness truth.

Your posts on this subject have become pure parody, Skeptic. Are you anti-Israeli disinfo?

yeah thats also such a point.
the list. we have a state that is blocking stuff. they refuse to release a list of what is actually banned.
a group decide to go to court, they still refuse to publish a list.
now that group compiles their own list based on what has been blocked from entering.
automatically it is asumed the list is incorrect. and the Israel fanboys hide behind the fact that there is no official list.
and those same people that have no problem with Israel not releasing a list, complain about Gisha not publishing their work of how they compiled the list.

laughable.
as long you have nothing to counter the only avaible information. i accept it as fact.
not my problem if Israel doesnt release the list.

freaking black and white thinking in an issue full of grey.

Gee I dont know why hammas is keeping aid out and I have no idea what is on their list!

As long the IDF will not publish a list about what items Hamas is blocking we wouldn't have any credible source for that anyway...

Libras: your affinity with firing missiles may please the Prophet (peace be upon him), but means you may want to stay at home with your civilian relatives today because Apache gunship activity in your area will increase forthwith.

That's fine if you wish to use the word piracy for emotive purposes.

Piracy seems like a fair description of violently attacking a boat in international waters under cover of darkness, killing and injuring people on the boat, abusing them, kidnapping them, imprisoning them, abusing them some more, stealing their belongings and trying to get them to sign statements that they have entered Israel illegally. If you like, you can call them gangsters instead.

You're moving those goal posts. You claimed they were 'hardened commandos' and now you're claiming they were hyped up (by that article you linked which said they would not use force unless they had to, which, being commandos, they already know). Hardened Commandos, who are trained in maritime operations, were used to board the MM.

They were hyped-up, hardened commandos. Shayetet 13 specializes in sea-to-land incursions, assassinations, counter-terrorism, sabotage, maritime intelligence gathering and maritime hostage rescue.

They were completely unsuited to the mission they were sent on - intercepting a politically sensitive, civilian aid convoy with paintball guns.

In the days before the attack the Israeli government and military talked up the probability of their being "terrorists" on board. That's what the leader of the commando mob said he saw so he shot them.

They had an hour to broadcast images, audio, footage of boarding.

Do you think that's an acceptable length of time in which to present their case to the world and while they are under fire?

These Commandos are viewed as 'death-squad pirates' etc, implying they are murderers.

That's their job. They are trained assassins.

They have now seen activists throw one of their comrades to a lower deck, perhaps injuring him very badly. That was not rational.

Sorry, I still don't get your point. What wasn't rational?

I'm speechless...I have no speech.
JihadJane has become a joke. After 2335 posts this is what you learned about the Marmara incident? really?
I think now you're arguing just for the sake of arguing making stuff up as you go.
You're like a child putting your hands on your ears and screaming: "La La La....I can't hear you".

Let's keep the tone civil, please.

What a load of crap.Nice sources you keep bringing. Not a single word about the violent mob on the ship and the beating that the Israeli soldiers took. Not a single word about the smuggled axes, knives, metal bars etc.You prove my point JihadJ. You're here for the sole reason of stirring things up. I've never put anyone on ignore but for a troll like you, I may make an exception.
