Repeal Don't Ask Don't Tell

I find it hard to believe that social engineering was the motivation for Israel, Switzerland, South Africa, and Russia allowing gays to serve.

Every Western democracy on Earth (expect for us) allows them to serve.

And I suppose it's just a coincidence that we have the strongest military. But sure, Democrat politicians know better than the troops.

You don't sound sorry.

Then the person reading the posts to you is using the wrong motivation.
Let's get back to the main point. The troops are precious... I mean, they're the troops. Just look at those two words, "the troops." As far as I know, a clear majority of them wants to keep Don't Ask, Don't Tell in place. Now let me get this straight: you and others are saying the troops are mistaken.

Can't speak for anyone else but, yes, some are mistaken, some are afraid, all are wrong.

You better apologize.
Or what?

And I suppose it's just a coincidence that we have the strongest military. But sure, Democrat politicians know better than the troops.

Are you implying that all those militaries would be stronger if they didn't allow gays to serve?

I'm done with you guys, ya dig? You're disagreeing with the troops. THE TROOPS! In this country we go by what the troops want, not Dem politicians.

Except the gay ones.

(I'm pretty sure Poe's Law is in effect, but I've had several conversations where the pro dadt side mirrored Cain almost exactly.)

What's really amazing is that I can no longer tell the difference between Teabagger and spoof.

Or Red State and The Onion.

Yes, it's that bad.

Ummm, countries like that are called military dictatorships, not representative democracies. Guess which one we live in here in the U.S.A.?

Just sayin'...

You too? Good, because for a minute there I thought I was losing my marbles :boggled:

What what what?

You mean all this stuff about the Constitution, the 3 branches of government, the legislative process, and so on that they taught me in high school civics class was a big lie?

So which troops are we supposed to obey as our new dictator?

Or at least how do you resolve their internal disagreements? (Surely you don't think everyone in the military is of one mind!)

The thing about skepticism is that you question assumptions, even your own.

As far as you know, a clear majority of them wants to keep DADT in place. What do you base that knowledge on? Are you basing it on fact or assumption?

Now let me get this straight: you and others are saying the troops are mistaken. You better apologize.
For what it's worth: Argument from authority.

For lip service you give to respecting the troops, you better make sure that you aren't putting words in their mouths.

The biggest argument against homosexuals serving openly in the military is... bigots might have an issue with it. It's not a convincing argument at all.

Oh, please. Stop being gay.

According to your poll, a plurality (37%) oppose gays openly serving (favored by 26%). The real story is that thirty-two percent are "neutral," so I'm going to invoke social desirability bias.

Furthermore, I bet that if you break it down by branch, Marines are the least supportive of the butthex, probably because they're real men. Since they do most of the fighting, and they're the most patriotic we have to add weight that exceeds their numbers.

I'm not sure if we should count the air force either. They're basically civilians.

The problem with this is that we go by the troops. Gotta respect the troops. They're the troops.

What's this even supposed to mean?!

Invoked based on what? This smells of something you pulled from your backside.

Perhaps it just means the Marines are more homophobic than the rest of the military. Everything else about them is irrelevant. Patriotism and duty does not an argument make, nor does it give them ANY authority in this discussion.

The troops work for the government, and the government is elected by us. We can respect what they say, but if what they're saying is wrong, then we don't have to abide by what they say. I'd rather go with the idea of equal rights, something that is valued way more than what a few bigotted troops have to say.

Gays scare you so bad you're reduced to begging?

I invoke doesn't care as long as they can drag me to cover if I get shot in the ass bias.

hmmm... Should I point out the obvious "There are women Marines" and ask if lesbians are ok? Maybe the fact that gay men what with their penis and testicles are real men? Or just go for the "If they are all so straight, what are they doing in the latrine that they call it a 'head' joke?

I'm not sure if we should count the air force either. They're basically civilians.
... so Bush didn't serve?

except the gay troops, the troops that support the gay troops, and the troops that couldn't care less if other troops are gay.

It's a well-documented phenomenon: responders lie to pollsters in order to appear politically correct. Believe it or not, people don't always mean what they say.

Redtail:
"There are women Marines"

Good one!

Let's be serious for a moment and imagine Louis cock-diving on a grenade, blood paints the area: congratulations, everyone in the unit now has AIDS. Gay Iraqi AIDS. From teh butthex. Good job, Senate Democrat leadership.
