Mary H is Candace Dempsey's sister. Didn't you know that?

Make us all a powerpoint showing us that Mary H is Candace's sister. That would be fun.

Bruce Fisher, is it true that Mary H is Candace's sister?

I like your style of debate by the way! Thank you for respecting the victim at times. I saw that and you rose in my thinking very much. This is good manners and it does your cause good.

I would still say that's what it looked like, because that's what it looks like.
Fair enough. It probably is a love bit, I just don't think it should be stuck in the pile marked 'proven'. Incidentally, I took another look at the photograph. In the zoomed in section it looks as if there is a lighter strip at the center. It could be an artifact I suppose, it is midway between two somewhat similar looking marks (left and above, right and down). I can't say I have ever examined a love bite to know whether a light patch in the center is normal.

Hey Kermit, how about a powerpoint on Candace's translation of Raffaele's phone call to the police. Her translation has Raffaele saying, "there is a lot of blood".

Shuttlt, I just said what it looks like. No of course I don't know how it got there. And I don't think the people who saw it had any clue either. I just find it funny how much emphasis people put on this, and then do little camera tricks to zoom in and analyze it pseudo scientifically when it looks very much just like a hickey. It could also be an allergic reaction to something not sex or murder related. I just can't take it seriously when people want to insinuate it might have been a wound. If you can't reliably draw a negative inference, then in the interest of objectivity, be fair and don't draw it.

Dan O what you say I find incredible! So I can post an anti-Semitic comment, or a comment about people of any colour and insult and decry them and call them animals, say, and the moderators will say, 'yes fine, go ahead Montmorency'.

I doubt they would say it is "fine" but it is within the rules. We already have at least one forum racist. Look up some posts by "MaGZ".

I encourage people to say what they think, no matter how revolting. It helps me understand the world better than does plugging my ears.

So can I deny the holocaust...

Pfftt...we have whole threads devoted to that topic.

Wowee. I thought this was a respectable place to be.

It is. We prove it by allowing everyone to speak their mind. Your fear of words frightens me almost as much as the racism you hope to ignore.

Thanks for pointing that out. I am Jewish btw, in case anyone didn't know (even though I'm an atheist) and have gone back and forth with some of the holocaust deniers on here. One guy even tried to claim it the Jews were in charge of Russia.

That's certainly what I'm trying to do, but to my mind it is just as wrong to conclude it was definitely a love bite and therefore undermine the credibility of Laura and the interpreter. Perhaps at 74 megapixels they saw something that we are missing? There is no way to know. Perhaps if Laura had been visiting professor of Hickeys from Florence we could conclude something, as it is....

Haha. Shuttlt, please don't make me read all that.
Bah! All it proved was what we already know, that the human eye at a distance of a few feet can do far better than Falcanelli's picture. It just interested me that they had a figure for the resolution of the human eye in a directly comparable format to digital cameras.

.
Mary, you didn't reply to my question: does Amanda or her family have a connection to you?

I suppose you could say I have a connection to Amanda in as much as she comes from the town I live in, and I know a great many people who went to her high school. As evidenced by all the people here who say they have never seen the video of Amanda and Raffaele kissing, the trial seems to have been covered on TV in Seattle much more than in other places.

That's how I became aware of it. My interest was increased when I recognized that Amanda had been kidnapped, and I felt a desire to help obtain her release.

Does that somehow differentiate (for the better) your stance in this debate compared to those of us who just happened to stumble on this case, and have continued our interest in it, with no particular stake in the outcome?

Stumble upon it? How does that happen? When I stumble upon something on the internet, I don't then spend the next two years of my life following it and commenting on it, pro or con. Maybe some of you do, but because of my loose (as described above) connection to Amanda, I found this case to have particular urgency. There are plenty of other cases of injustice out there, but generally speaking, I am not an activist.

I wonder how many people who continuously comment on this case also continuously comment on other cases. How many of the guilters who cry out for justice for Meredith are also crying out for justice elsewhere, in the same fashion?

I agree most people don't have a stake in the outcome. That is what is so curious about the establishment of websites devoted to trashing Amanda and her family. The level of emotion and invective I have observed there and in other blogs suggests people somehow believe they do have a stake in it.

The JREF Forum index pages for Social issues & Current events show that this thread has almost 200,000 hits, whereas the highest number of hits for other topics is in the low five figures.

(BTW, I should say that I'm not working to get anyone into or out of jail. I would simply have liked all three murder convicts - pending appeal - to have offered complete participation and collaboration in the investigation and trial).

I'm not sure of your meaning here so it would be great if you could clarify it a little before I respond.

What does he think the correct translation is?

Here's the opinion:

I listened to the tape again. I think that in one of my very first posts on PMF I mentioned how poor RS's Italian is (just by listening to his calls to the Carabinieri). It's so poor that the translators had a hard time understanding the tape. Anyway, that is the least of his worries right now...

RS never says "there is alot of blood" (c'è un mucchio di sangue).
This is the phone call with the *wrong* transcript:
http://www.youreporter.it/video_Solleci ... totitolata

At 00:34, RS does not say "c'è un mucchio di sangue" (there is alot of blood). RS says"c'è (u)na macchia di sangue" (there is a bloodstain).
Also, if you listen carefully, at 00:28, RS says "c'è GOCCE" (there *IS* drops).
And the word "drops" is never in any transcript. But it's there.

It's all "drops" and "stains".

No, this is not true. This was one of the accusations flying around at PMF. I was returning some of the sarcasm.

Meredith's death was a horrible tragedy. My heart goes out to her entire family.

I personally believe that 2 innocent people have been wrongfully convicted.

If this thread goes on much longer I'm sure we will get a Zionist and holocaust denier reading of it. There are already feminist readings.

Maybe you can talk to PMF about this translation.

Or we don't watch as much TV.

Finally, something you've said that I can agree with. AK's family has nothing whatsoever to do with Meredith's slaying. I don't care what they wore to court or even what AK wore to court. She deserves the chance to be able to serve her sentence quietly and hopefully to become rehabilitated into society.

Some people blame her family for all the "noise" surrounding her conviction but this isn't entirely fair. We live in a culture that values this "noise" and there will always be a market for it. The PR campaign--initiated to raise the profile of the case--has really taken on a life of its own. I don't know what can be done about that.

Maybe you can talk to PMF about this translation.

What would I have to discuss with them? I don't have an opinion on it since I am not an Italian speaker. The poster is and he says it does not discuss "tonnes" or "heaps" or "lots" of blood.
