Just my 2 cents - I am opposed to laws banning flag burning, effigy burning, swastikas / Holocaust denial in Germany / Austria, "hate speech" and most other restrictions on free speech. Sunlight is the best disinfectant. I'm not sure why you assume that others would / should share your desire to suppress speech you find offensive.I'm just wondering how consistent you are, in terms of your supposed commitment to free speech.

How is this applicable to burning an effigy? Where's the incitement? Threats of bodily harm? Don't see it. Perhaps you would like to point it out.in the USA, it is illegal to verbally threaten to kill the President, most politicians, and most people for that matter.

/insert laughing dog hereif I say to your face "I am gonna kick your butt if I see you on my street again", you can be arrested and charged with a felony.

it is illegal to threaten non-lethal violenceagainst anyone in the USA.
No, I don't.well, since the the Supreme Court has the final say on such issues, you kinda do.
Yep, but not a huge concern of mine since I don't live in those countries.as to freedom of speech, do you think its wrong for it to be illegal to display the Swastika in Germany and Austria, and for Holocaust denial to be a felony?
Because I've never discussed this topic here before...I'm just wondering how consistent you are, in terms of your supposed commitment to free speech.
i honestly was not familiar with Bush being burned in effigy in the USA, or in some friendly country. but if it did happen, and the police did not stop it right away, I retro-actively condemn those actions.

Why the distinction between friendly and unfriendly countries?
McHrozni thinks it's wrong to have laws against nazi speech, and you post this nonsense?McHrozni said:Yep, but not a huge concern of mine since I don't live in those countries.Thunder said:as to freedom of speech, do you think its wrong for it to be illegal to display the Swastika in Germany and Austria, and for Holocaust denial to be a felony?
Thunder said:wait, you proclaim yourself to be a hero of freedom of speech, yet you believe that it should be a felony in Germany, Austria, and other countries, to deny the Holocaust???
boy..the hypocrisy is rancid today!!!
not surprised though. I always knew that you would think its okee dokee to burn an effigy of Obama...but not okay to publicly doubt the historical legitimacy of the Holocaust.
hypocrisy...indeed.
So you think that other nations should abridge their citizens' free speech rights because you don't like what they are saying?because I expect unfriendly nations to hate the USA and our leaders. I am not surprised when they burn our leaders in effigy.
however, when so-called friends, who receive great benefits from their relationship with the USA, allow their people to burn our leaders in effigy and burn our flag with no consequences, that bothers me greatly.
it would bother you too..if you are an American.
To what degree are you willing to go to force your free-speech limitations on other countries?
Why are you laughing? It is mostly true:

The only thing he got wrong was that it is usually a misdemeanor, not a felony.
