Congratulations to my fellow Democrats

I particularly like the protection of children with pre-existing conditions, myself.

as I said before, the GOP Congress had 12 years to ban non-coverage of pre-existing conditions. 12 years to ban insurance companies from dropping folks who get sick. 12 years to allow folks to buy insurance across state lines. and they NEVER did anything.

i am curious as to why.

what say you, GOPers?

Oh wait, we didn't get any of that! Nevermind. What is it this bill does again?
This stuff really isn't that hard to google:

-Prohibit insurers from rejecting customers based on pre-existing conditions, and prohibit annual and lifetime limits.

-Limit annual and lifetime out-of-pocket costs.

-Set up a new national health insurance exchange.

-Require employers to provide health insurance for their employees, or contribute to a federal fund to help subsidize employees who purchase coverage through the exchange.

-Make small businesses that offer health coverage to employees eligible for tax credits

-Mandate individuals to buy health care coverage.

-Expand Medicaid to cover everyone whose income is below 150 percent of the poverty line.

-Make people who earn between 150 percent and 400 percent of the federal poverty level eligible for subsidies on a sliding scale to purchase insurance through the exchange.

-Make children able to stay on their parents’ policy until age 26.

-Close the Medicare Part D doughnut hole.

The bill would insure an additional 32 million Americans, and reduce the deficit by about $143 billion over the first ten years and $1200 billion over the ten years after that.

Right, it became "health insurance" reform. Also known as corporatism. They force everyone to buy health insurance.

I am actually surprised the insurance companies didn't manage to exempt themselves from corporate taxes, since they just pass on costs to their customers anyway.

And you are a Belgian.

Then you need to call it something besides insurance ..

Like, socialized medicine, perhaps ?

do you consider Medicare and Medicaid, "socialized" medicine?

why didn't the GOP Congress deal with these issues in 12 damn years? what stopped them from allowing people to buy health insurance across state lines....in 12 damn years?

And it also cuts Medicare by $500 billion in those first ten years. Said cuts aren't realistic and they will be removed later.

Peephole does not understand that Americans don;t like like being lectured to on a purely domestic issues by a non citizen in a condescending manner.

This American thinks the fact that he knows our bill better than many (most?) Americans is pretty damned sad.

"It will reduce the deficit"

At least we have a new litmus test for rationality on the forum.

and you did squat. so now....that the Dems decided to act....you can shut up.

I just caught an interview the other night that GOPs were trying to give more power to the consumer. But Dems in favor of Health Reform ignored it all and went straight for government control.

This is absolutely AWESOME!!!!

-Require employers to provide health insurance for their employees, or contribute to a federal fund to help subsidize employees who purchase coverage through the exchange.
This is Terrible! How are they supposed to afford this? Goodbye Jobs for alot of people, and then ontop of that require they have health insurance.

-Make small businesses that offer health coverage to employees eligible for tax credits
Wait, i thought that above it stated "Require employers to provide health insurance", why is it saying anything about small business who "OFFER"? Isnt it already a given that they now have to "offer", or am i missing something?
Somebody please explain.

-Mandate individuals to buy health care coverage.
This makes me sooooooo mad. I dont even want to discuss it.

-Expand Medicaid to cover everyone whose income is below 150 percent of the poverty line.
This is fine.

-Make people who earn between 150 percent and 400 percent of the federal poverty level eligible for subsidies on a sliding scale to purchase insurance through the exchange.
Again, im fine with this.

-Make children able to stay on their parents’ policy until age 26.
Well, this is fine as well.

Clinton only survived the 1996 election by pretending to be a conservative. I very much doubt that Comrade Obama will be able to get away with the same thing.

It didn't help that republicans nominated a sleeping pill with feet in '96 under their always dependable "whose turn is it to run?" system.

Republicans in 1965 on Medicare:

-This program could destroy private initiative for our aged to protect themselves with insurance against the cost of illness.
-We cannot stand idly by now, as the Nation is urged to embark on an ill-conceived adventure in government medicine, the end of which no one can see, and from which the patient is certain to be the ultimate sufferer.
-We are going on the assumption that this is not socialized medicine. Let me tell you here and now it is socialized medicine.

And almost half a century later, medicare is flopped with budget crises struggling to stay afloat. Add to that fewer people are now supporting an increasing population of people going on this system. Seems about right... and they want to shave off another half billion from the program..

It's for businesses with more than 50 employees.

It has its upsides, it increases the health care pool, reducing premiums, and it prevents a health care death spiral.

You can't complain about budget problems and at the same time oppose cuts to the program.
