U.S. Soldiers Re-Enlist in Strong Numbers

That's funny. It so contradicts the USA Today headline a few days ago. I wish I had saved it so I could link to it.

I'm sure when AUP signs on he will come on this thread an apologize for being wrong about this topic and not post some link with irrelevant information that tries to disprove this fact with opinion from some authority figure.

I found the USA article on line here.

Iraq duty deters re-enlistment
By Dave Moniz, USA TODAY

The number of soldiers staying in the Army is falling just as the demand is increasing in Iraq.

Through March 17, nearly halfway through the fiscal year, the Army fell about 1,000 short of meeting its goal of keeping 25,786 soldiers whose enlistments were ending or who were eligible to retire. That works out to a 96% retention rate.

Last year, the retention figure was 106% because more soldiers stayed than the Army had planned. The retention goal assumes that not all eligible to stay will remain.

Military personnel experts have warned that full-time soldiers and members of the Guard and Reserve could begin leaving this year because of the strains of service, including longer and more frequent overseas missions. Defense Secretary Donald Rumsfeld acknowledged Thursday that the Defense Department will extend duty in Iraq beyond one year for 20,000 soldiers. Their time in Iraq will grow as much as 90 days.

I've said over and over, beware enlistment predictions that use "may" or "could." Also, a 96% retention rate is an awesome rate regardless! The reporter is an idiot.

Hence why I said when AUP signs on as I am aware of time difference and this being weekend and all. I also did not know you were his spoke-person.

Don't forget to erase the web cache before you go to bed tony...You know how your parents warned you about the potty mouth and you don't want to get your computer confiscated again.

Do you think your point is best made by a reprint of an US army PR statement ?

Do you think the title of your post accurately reflects the abysmal morale of US troops stationed in Iraq ?

Do you think one injured soldier reenlisting for a cushy post at Fort Benning has any bearing on Iraq ?

Perhaps he can get those two little girls who don`t want to go back to Iraq after losing their sister in this fiasco a cushy number too or has that already been sorted out for them?

Do you think you ever make a point and support allegations with facts?

"Do you think you ever make a point and support allegations with facts?"

Oh, like this you mean?

"And according to some other posters whatever the country does internally is their business and no one has a right to tell them what to do...unless it's USA or Israel then everyone knows what's better for them."

"Ok yeah, the inspectors were NEVER kicked out; they all left on their own terms when they wanted."

"He hid his WMDs for years until a defector finally revealed their loclations, and then when UN almost disarmed him, he kicked all the inspectors out."

"Before Saddam kicked out the inspectors the first time, there were unaccountable banned weapons, which Iraq never presented or stated what they did with them."

Ahem, I`m saying nothing LOLOL

How long do you have to serve in the US Army before significant financial and other benefits kick in? Does whether or not you've served active duty affect your entitlements? In other words, is there any significant benefit which army personnel would gain from extending their enlistment (such as college, reduced housing costs, increased healthcare entitlements, better pension entitlements, etc), especially if during the period of re-enlistment they serve active duty?

I'm going to assume those are my quotes. Exactly what point are you making by taking them out of context?

This just goes to show that Americans are a self-less people who care not just for their own welfare, but for the welfare of people around the world.
