Phoenix lights- ufo proof

Hi.

So I am in the midst of an argument about the Phoenix lights.

A buddy came over the other night and started talking about how the Phoenix lights are the most inexplicable thing he's ever seen re. UFOs. I said OK, then the next day found a video on youtube where the nighttime video of the UFO is superimposed on a daytime video of the horizon, and clearly shows the UFO lights to be falling and disappearing behind the mountain, which IMO is 100% consistent with the NWO's explanation that these were just flares dropped out of an airplane (lol)

Here's the video:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ewCk_Shb7Hk

Needless to say, I lol'd heartily at this video. However, my contemporary remains unconvinced.

Anyways, apparently the famous video of the Phoenix Flares is only one of the two events that happened in 1997. The other event was the appearance of a giant floating triangle or boomerang over the region.

Imagery of the Phoenix Lights falls into two categories: images of the triangular formation seen prior to 10 pm in Prescott and Dewey, and images of the 10 pm Phoenix event. All known images were produced using a variety of commercially available camcorders and cameras. There are no known images taken by equipment designed for scientific analysis, nor are there any known images taken using high powered optics or night vision equipment.

Does anyone know where I can find images of the 'giant triangle formation'? All I've been able to find so far are 'artists' interpretations' and CGI sequences for 'documentaries'.

Thanks for any help you can provide,

Your pal,
Captain.Sassy

I thought they turned out to be a flight of aircraft that were miles away from the flares. Canadian or something
or perhaps I dreamt it

There was only one video of the lights. I took some frame grabs from the show "UFOs over Phoenix" from back in 1997 showing that the lights shifted formation. Puddle duck already posted the link. I think if you actually read most of the witness testimony from that time, you will see that only about a third of the witnesses actually saw a dark object behind the lights. Another third just reported a formation of lights. The last third saw a formation of lights but made observations that indicated there was no dark object behind the light. I think the video confirms that the last group was probably the most accurate. Of course, you never read anything about Mitch Stanley (see the link for his story) in any of these television shows or UFO forums.

And just to add my CGI artists impressions of the claimed (and to my mind disproven) triangle craft.

For no reason other than because I can :D

Tim's website is certainly the best place to look for a comprehensive collection of information regarding the events.

I think it was covered in the the late and unlamented Mk I version of Rramjet's trolling thread. Pretty sure it was flares and... there was something else, but I can't think what it was.

Oh well there you go then
Captain.Sassy, if you want the full details all you have to do is wade through thousands of pointless "bleever" posts full of incoherent babbling and SHOUTING and you'll find it

failing that just keep your eyes posted on the Mk II version of Rramjet's trolling thread and hes sure to cover it again because he clearly wasn't paying any attention the first time around
;)

I thought the main problem with them was that they weren't blurred enough to be proper UFOs :p

Nooo, the close up lights of the invisible ship which made no noise which despite flying as slow as 30 mph was seen by just a handfull of people as it flew over a major city were supposed to flicker like gas lights in a manner similar to how distant objects would flicker if you werent aware they were distant.

;)

Ohhh come now. Certainly you can create one of your movie posters about the lights? I love the artwork but maybe something with a bit more "punch". I could use it in the NEXT issue (May-June) of SUNlite!

Two separate incidents: flares from A-10s in a military ops area, and a formation flight of Canadian Tutors overflying Phoenix at 19000 feet.

I was bummed, I was on a flight to PHX from DFW that night while everything happened.

Not a window seat...but no one said anything on the plane.

A pterodactyl with landing lights? From outer space? The earth is doomed!

One of the guys in my unit says he saw the lights a few years ago. Being in the military, he knows what a flare looks like and says it certainly was not a flare (how you could rule something like that out I don't know). He also says that he has family that saw the triangle.

I brought up such truck as air inversions, optical illusions and such but he is fairly steadfast that some unknown agency is involved.

Eh, I couldn't hold something like that against someone. I am well aware that if I witnessed some lights in the night sky that weren't immediately explainable I might myself jump to the 'crazy' conclusion (Aliens after all, may be snowbirds as well). I am well aware that I am certainly am not immune to exaggeration especially when it comes to fleeting glimpses of lights in the desert sky in our beautiful southwest.

And I think that's something we should keep in mind. The witness are human and prone to human errors in reporting exactly what they saw. I filled out enough SIR (Serious Incident Reports) in the Army that I know that different people see different things from different perspectives, sometimes wildly different. Were as you or I might see illumination flares someone else might see the spaceship that is bringing Jesus and Elvis back and what we see gets filtered through that mindset.

I think that the initial "Whoa, you see that up there?!" needs to be weighed and considered once the excitement and awe has worn off and the skeptical section of our brains kicks in. Once all the hypothesis are weighed the one we typically will find ourselves with is the heuristic null hypothesis.

Sadly, as in this case, it seems that it was flares. Not as glamorous as spaceships but the harsh or disappointing reality is far better at finding fact than the glamorous explanation.

Pfffft... talk about dropping hints :D

I'll see what I can do :)

I think you need to examine the case closely. The witnesses and the media have screwed this all up. There were two events that night. The second event at 10PM was definitely flares. Nobody has ever stated the 8PM event (the first event) was flares. This is the "triangular formation" of lights that navigated the state along a standard air route! Some perceived it as a dark triangle/V and others saw a formation of lights. The most important evidence was the Terry Proctor video, which showed a formation of lights shifting position as it moved across the sky. This is the kind of behavior one would expect a formation of aircraft to perform. The rest is "connect the dots" perception issues by the witnesses.

A perfect example of how this game of "connect the dots" happens can be found in the case of Zond IV:
