Getting bored with 9-11 Truth, part Deux

My last attempt to get a real debate going for myself was my Ask a firefighter thread, but once I keep getting the same argument over and over again, I lost interest. Those who are willing to learn will learn and those who want to deny will continue to deny, there is no changing it. 9 years have almost passed, dozens of books and movies have been released and still no revolution or independent investigation.

Its funny, when I took a long break from this sub-forum, I heard nothing about truthers or 9/11 conspiracies. I only see them in the streets on the anniversary, but I don't even know if they still gather in Union Square or down at the WTC site since they moved the PATH entrance.

Having lurked here for years, but only recently started posting, may I very humbly suggest inviting back all the banned truthers?

I know they patently violated terms of the participation agreement but why not declare a amnesty and hear again from the fringe of the fringe?

The problem is they are all still out there posting their garbage on more truther friendly sites where their junk goes unchallenged. I know its the same old same old but I really have trouble thinking that the stuff is going to be memoralized in cyberspace without comment.

Just my two cents.

PS - Plus it was just fun watching you guys running them around in circles, some of the funniest stuff I ever read.

Here is one such example; their page on Greer (warning, graphic video) echoes the above. But also note how similar to no-claimer Truther lore their "mission statement" is.

It's all the same people -- deeply paranoid, without evidence, but working hard to justify their beliefs any way they can.

I had no idea. Man, color me disappointed. Looks like the JFK obsessed are every bit as repetative as the 9/11 fantasy addicts.

That's actually somewhat depressing. You'd hope that one of the, if not THE most famous conspiracy fantasies would have a better cut of adherents, but to see that they're just as copycat as a 9/11 myth peddler... well, like I said, I'm disappointed in them.

These debates (and I use the term loosely) have been great for me. I've learned a LOT from them about a myriad of subjects. This forum is a primer in everything from engineering to logical fallacies.

And where else can I learn things while producing flippant one liners and morally outraged diatribes? Nowhere I say!

Well thats easy to imagine. For years my dad would take us on day trips and as kids we would misbehave in the back seat. Dad would get enraged and turn around (while still driving) to face us. But he never shot at us. He would just point his finger at us and threaten to "turn this car into a tree". The closest he ever came to doing that though was a 69 kingswood estate wagon with the wood grain sides
 
What's left of the Truth Movement is pretty pathetic nowadays. If this forum didn't continue to give them attention, I wonder if they would just dry up and blow away.

On the other hand, it's sometimes useful to have a clear shibboleth to help us identify crazy people. Here in Texas, we have three Republican candidates for governor: Kay Bailey Hutchison, former senator, is challenging Rick Perry, who is loathsome but has been over a government that's controlled spending pretty well. Then there's Debra Medina, the dark horse candidate who has been doing very well, until her interview with Glenn Beck last week. Here's a snippet from a Dallas Morning News item:

Beck asked Medina today about rumors that she's a "9/11 truther," prompting a hearty laugh from Medina and a claim that she's never heard that said. Beck persists, asking Medina if she thinks that the U.S. government was involved in the attacks on the Sept. 11, 2001.

Medina says:
"I think some very good questions have been raised in that regard. There are some very good arguments, and I think the American people have not seen all of the evidence there, so I have not taken a position on that."

The correct answer here would be "No."

Beck correctly notes, "I think the American people might take that as a yes."

So, see, the Truth Movement does have a use. It helps us find crazies so we can dismiss them easily.

I understand what you are saying but....

I think this forum serves as a good resource...there will always be newbies that get exposed to the "truther" nonsense and have questions.

Having this forum open with the many many threads archived serves an educational purpose against the truther woo.

Between this forum and several of the debunking websites out there we don't have a need for any additional or new information to PWN the truthers....but I think the information should continue to be available so we can point others to it.
 
I must admit that sometimes I wonder how far I've sunk in the humour fulfillment category when I get my jollies from laughing at LCF's "in the last 24 hours there have been 0 posts", and PffffT's endlessly reincarnated Chip In banner that keeps on sucking the miniscule supply of pot money from the site newbies so that Captain Pugwash can afford the bandwidth to intermittently update his core list.

Then I switch on my TV set, watch South African politics in action, and realise that even that is many barrels ahead in the humour stakes.

I vote for a new law to be coined akin to godwin's law.

If a person's post resembles a beatnik poem they have officially lost the argument. This used to be just a craze within the religious/psychic/superpowers woo communities, and now the truthers have taken it over.

Do you "decent citizens" have physical evidence to prove that there was a conspiracy?

Still "hidden" you say? Maybe that's why a majority of JREFers post links to these "hidden" pieces of evidence from the internet. Stupid & cowardly? Kind of like the whackos at Ground Zero holding signs that say "9/11 was an Inside Job" & telling the Families & friends of the Victims that their own Government did this to them, then to turn around & say that they were "in on it"? Isn't that being stupid & cowadly, yes it is!

The root of your problem is that the burden of proof in on your shoulders & you have no self respect to give any evidence to back up your crazy claims.

This might work if around here to Godwin a thread officially meant defeat. This place hasn't got that far yet. First things first.
