It's a song of sorrow. It's a song of lamenting ones woes in the world.
Another scholar believes that it may be "my hands and feet are bound".

Indeed, that article nicely explains the folly of the "Pierced" translation:
"First the middle "N" could not easily be explained in a root normally third weak [a reference to grammar structure]. Second, it was quite a stretch to make a verb normally used of digging pits and wells to refer to piercing hands and feet with nails. Third, crucifixion did not seem appropriate context of v.17 within psalm 22, nor to the psalm's historical origin in ancient Israel."

All of these translations fit the theme of the psalm quite well and only one translation may possibly be considered similar to the Jesus story.

Well, I think the fact that it is clearly mistranslated as pierced means that are NOT to believe almost all biblical translations.

Actually, I was looking for an OLD post of TA's where he called me the "effing voice of reason". I wanted to be able to link to it, but it's too old and I couldn't go back far enough. My search-fu isn't strong enough.

So, I browsed some of my old posts from this thread. I saw that one and said to my self, "Self, " cause that's what I call me, "self, I could have written that yesterday. This thread hasn't progressed in over a freaking YEAR!". Then I was sad.

Then I ate an orange.

Then I felt better.

I'm looking forward to reusing it, but it must encounter at least 5 more fallacies before it is ready to detonate again.


And while the thread hasn't progressed in the year, I've learned some interesting things that I would have never learned if DOC didn't make his non-claims. For instance, the argument against the "piercing" translation came about in 1815. It's funny that almost immediately into the age of reason, a counter argument against the poor biblical translation surfaced.


I wonder if DOC feels happy or sad that his most recent argument for Jesus was debunked almost 200 years ago.
