Liberals Obsessed With Conservatives?

It appears to me that both sides whine all the damn time about each other. If they'd shut the **** up for a minute trying to score cheap political points and actually concentrate on solving problems, and, God/Allah/Whatever forbid, maybe even work together, the country might be in better shape.


Won't hold my breath waiting on that to happen, though.

I think some people are in denial. It's the Dr. Jekyl and Mr. Hyde syndrome: you can beat your wife every day, for example, but you aren't really a wife beater, because you don't think you are. She always has it coming, you see.

All I know is, in December of 2000 I lost virtually every online friend I had, when they found out that I supported Bush.

In this I think conservatives do, indeed, have the upper hand. It is far rarer, in my experience, for conservatives to cut you off and ostracize someone as a person for being a liberal, or an atheist, or whatever.

As an atheist conservative, I saw both sides when I was in the USA. Religious conservatives who were convinced that I will burn in hell forever were, on a day to day basis, my friends, and quite nice and polite. No problem having lunch with them, for instance.

People who merely thought I am in some political disagreement with them, the liberals, would avoid me like the plague only due to that.

Go figure. You'd think it would be the other way around -- that nobody would want to hang out with someone they're sure is damned to hell, while mere political disagreement should be no big deal -- but it isn't.

The only people I think I've ever heard call all conservatives evil have been fringe nuts, so they are hardly representative of all liberals.

This is easily confirmation bias though. It seems that the more partisan someone is the more they are concerned with tearing down the oposition rather than promoting their own position.

As for bias in the media, well what media are you talking about? What does the typical action movie say about gun control and self defense? The media as a whole are very very broad.

And I believe they show it in other ways too, such as the partisan liberal who deflects any criticism of liberals by negative criticism of conservatives. I don't see tactics like these being used by conservatives as well.

They are both concerned with trashing each other's faulty mental models of reality. This alone is evidence they're both wrong and are just tools of the competing memes that rule them.

I was talking entertainment media in particular this time. I've been on a lot of political boards over the last decade or so and I've seen a lot of liberals often call conservatives things like hicks so I've come to associate those terms with liberals, even if I recognize that intellectually it is not true for everyone and there are other possibilities. So, when I see these terms show up in movies like Star Trek I immediately think "uh oh, odds are he's a liberal" before I go on to other possibilities.

Jokes like these actually do reveal more about the people who use them rather than the people they target the jokes to.

To the best of my knowledge, no one has been attacking christmas and atheists and liberals can celebrate the holiday too. Conservatives created the "war on christmas" as a way of demonizing atheists and liberals.
