AA77 FDR Data, Explained

Thank you Warren, I appreciate all of your hard work on this. I'll have a look at the numbers a bit later. I'm particularly curious to see the radar altitude 1 second from end of data. That may quell PfT's "too high to hit the light poles" notion.

Thanks also to you apathoid, the valuable information in your previous post made my new program possible. The last decoded radio height is 4 feet.

I am the first to admit that I have kind of lost interest in CIT and the Pfts stuff but I must admit to an interest in the extra four seconds of data. I am curious as to where exactly this extra data places the plane, with regards to speed, angle and height.

Would this extra data determine, conclusively, whether or not the plane was in a position to pull up and fly over or would it place the plane in a position whereby such a manoeuvre was simply impossible?

ETA. Please excuse my ignorance if this as already been answered, or kind of a silly question.

As far as the NTSB decode goes, yes, it could simply be that their software did not decode incomplete frames. The frame with the almost 4 seconds of extra data has only 1007 of 1020 * 12 bit words.

Once again, no matter how you slice it, the data does not support the govt story of AA77 impact with the Pentagon as reported. (p4t truth-NAZI! no troof for u)

Why are GLs able to understand the events of Septemeber 11, 2001 and Balsamo's followers can't? My dad was a GL fighting at Bastogne, being called a GL is an honor I do not deserve and have not earned.

It would be impossibe to fly over the Pentagon and not be seen on RADAR, or by on Video tape from the Hotel. The dolts at CIT and p4t have 77 flying over the Pentagon even when the entire plane and all the passengers crashed into the Pentagon at the exact speed and energy of impact the FDR confirms.

It is not impossible to fly over the Pentagon given enough space to pull up.
The last average G for the last 5 seconds have Hani pointing at the Pentagon is his pathetically clumsy flying paws.

To get a feel for what this means, if you weigh 100 pounds you would feel like 66 pounds for one second, 85 pounds for 1 second, 111 pounds the next, 190 the next, and 170 the next. The plane is still descending after Hani almost hits the road. Hani was a bad pilot who crashed into the Pentagon - a flying feat Balsamo calls impossible since ATP-less Balsamo can't hit a building (larger than a runway) in the safety of a simulator. How can Balsamo hit a runway if he can't hit one of the worlds largest buildings? Was Hani given the big target due to his pathetic flying skills?

Flight 77 was descending up to 100 feet per second. You can see with the .66g Hani was pushing over and increasing the descent rate, the same for .85, and then he reduced the decent at 1.11g, and then realized he was going to hit the over pass and pulled up to 2.6g, an average of 1.9, and 1.7 just a half second to 1 second prior to impact. This g load never stopped flight 77 from descending into the 1st/2nd floor; their is no need to level off and it would be impossible to fly over the Pentagon based on the fact 77 was only 4 feet above something just prior to impact. Maybe if the landing gear was down, it would have cleared the overpass/road by 4 feet. What did witnesses say about how high 77 cleared the road? 104 documented witnesses saw 77 impact the Pentagon and a few had 77 pass right over their cars and they could only see the bottom of the plane.

Well I'm certainly glad it was helpful for you Warren.

It appears that the absolute altitude(above ground level) in the last 5 seconds was: 233, 183, 89, 57, 4. This comfortably puts the plane in the path of the lightpoles more than 1 second from impact. Robbie is still crying about pressure altitude, but it's far less reliable and it's subject to a bit of lag. I haven't checked, but the lag should be evident by the difference between the radalt rate of descent, compared with the pressure altitude rate of descent. If you plotted them, the plots should look pretty similar, but would be offset. Maybe if I get bored enough, I'll do a graphic on this.

Good question and it gets better. The pressure altitude was negative in the last two frames....but dammit it was still too high!

eta for Beachy: What should the press altitude read at 0 ft agl? I used to know this, but I forgot..

The local QNH for September 11 2001, 30.22. If you put that setting in your altimeter you get close to the real altitude. Standard pressure is 2992.

In theory the FDR reading for pressure altitude at impact would be ~ -222. But the RADALT of 4 feet as 77 brushes the trees crossing the road beats the error ridden lagging pressure altitude at the time close to impact past flight test speeds for low altitude. The Pressure altitude tolerance is +/- 75ft. Wonder why airways are 1000 feet apart?

Beachnut is correct as the FDR reads PA (UNCORRECTED for the local altimeter setting). I was using corrected PA in the post above.

The instrument error will be so large as to make it unusable. Compressibility! We already know this bird was moving so fast and so low that it was stalling out both engines, who knows what was happening at the static ports.

RADALT, fortunately, doesn't care about compressibility.

It does care about buildings and trees though, and that throws out any meaningful comparison between it and the pressure altitude anyways. Don't get me wrong, I'm totally satisfied with Warrens data and I think 99% our questions about the FDR are answered now.

Now I'm gonna put on some popcorn and head on over the the Pft/CIT treehouse to watch the meltdown.
 
Yes, absolutely it does. Also, when dealing with a reading as low as four feet, questions of exactly where the antenna is mounted and how it was calibrated become more important.

But it's not like we care if it was really 4 feet or 2 feet or 20 feet -- it's darn low, guaranteed. Not that we had much doubt.

Trying to guess how the insane will think it tough, but I expect their responses will range from something as benign as he is mistaken through he's a shill and in with, or maybe one of, the perps. I think the only response I can safely say you won't see is acceptance of the results.

I have hundreds of hours flying at very low altitudes at high speed. Trying to get accurate height information from a barometric altimeter under these conditions is a futile waste of time. It's akin to trying to use a whiskey compass for heading information while maneuvering.

It's only use would be for charlatans attempting to perpetuate continued delusions. pffft has been exposed for the frauds that they have been all along.
 
Reheat: How about lat-long positional data? It seems that the cone of variability increased the lower the plane went...is that possible?

IIRC pilots are to maintain their specified assigned altitude (as indicated on the altimeter) within 50 feet which would put them (combining the PA error and their max allowed deviation) at +/- 125 (75 +50)feet from optimum flight level.

Two planes passing by each other on different assigned altitudes could then still come within 750 feet of each other. Though of course any controller putting them together like that would be passing bricks via the lower gastrointestinal tract.
