Evidence for why we know the New Testament writers told the truth.

The anonymous authors of the babble wrote what they thought was the truth.

Not one of these authors ever met the Jesus they were writing about.

Well the apostle Paul, who was listed as the 6th most influential man in the history of the world in the book "The 100- the 100 most influential people in history" met him on the road to Damascus.

And of course Matthew and John, the authors of the Gospels Mathew and John knew Jesus and traveled with him. I've already given evidence that these men did in fact write the Gospels that have been attributed to them for 2000 years.

It was all legend and myth mixed into a cocktail of word salads. That a single educated person can believe anything in this salad about an actual historical event as the life of a messiah should really be ashamed of themselves.
So you are saying that Barack Obama and Jimmy Carter should be ashamed of themselves?

There's consensus with most theologians that Mathew or John did not write their gospels. Also these guys were not apostles. Mark, the first gospel to appear was written around the year 50ad at the earliest, Thirty years after the so-called messiahs death. Mathew's, well after 70 ad, Luke's, after 80 ad, and John, around the turn of the century.

What Obama and Carter personal believe is completely up to them. It just shows how very clever people sometimes believe absurd ideas. Issac Newton was a theist who also dabbled with alchemy.

Appeal to stupid list.

the evidence you gave was fallacious.

appeal to authority.

appeal to authority.
I have never understood DOC’s obsession with the beliefs of some* ex-presidents as if becoming president made to all knowing. I suppose we should be grateful that DOC is progressing and no longer holding Slave owners up as moral examples.

*For some reason I can’t fathom believers GW Bush and Richard Nixon are rarely if ever put forward by DOC.

Ah, but Muhammed, who was listed as the most influential man in the history of the world in that same book, did not believe that Jesus was the son of God, nor that he was crucified.

:gasp: so... the most influential people... they... did not agree?

But doesn't being influential automatically mean... speaking the truth?

How can this be?

He did not. He had a vision of Jesus on the road to Damascus. A vision that was not shared by the people around him at the time. A vision whose description is strongly reminiscent of the symptoms of temporal lobe epilepsy.

"Dabbled" with alchemy? He wrote more words on alchemy that about all other subjects combined! The man did not dabble, he was obsessed!

Isn't it obvious? The person is a Republican.

We know people can be revived after thier heart stops, but to be actually and truly brain dead and then come back is something completely different.

Sorry, joobz, but the coming back of certain posters (which I probably am not allowed to name due to the membership agreement) to this thread easily falsifies your statement. :D

The history of man is not over yet. The list has changed over the years. It is not static.

Christianity is the largest religion in the world. And the author of that book stated that if more people actually incorporated the teachings of Jesus in their everyday life Jesus would have been # 1. That could change though.

If more people incorporated the teachings of Elvis in their everyday life, Elvis would be #1.

And yet, you appeal to the book as an authority to validate what Paul wrote nearly 2000 years before? Do you not see how ridiculous that is?
ETA: To make it clearer; does Paul become less reliable if he drops down the list? If the fact that Muhammed is at the top of the list does not mean that what he said was true, then why is the position of other names significant?

Christianity is the largest religion in the world.
1) Do you have figures to back that up?
2) So what?

So, if more people were influenced by Jesus, he would be more influential? Gosh, really? And yet, it doesn't make the New Testament any more true.

Given that people are leaving Christianity in droves it is not likely. Perhaps you could help stop the decrease in numbers by answering my question that you have ignored twice so far.

You claimed that Moses had homosexuals killed. Do you believe that homosexuals should be murdered or was Moses getting the wrong message from God?

Perhaps a simple quote from the New Testament referring to the old Testament Laws would clear all this up and help us to decide what true Christians should do.

So, in other words, you reject list list as evidence of the truth of Islam because the list could change. However, you also believe that the list provides evidence for the truth of christianity.

This is called special pleading and is a classic example of poor logic.

If believe he is correct, Christianity is still the first religion in the world, albeit Islam is catching up real fast.
In fact, a number of religious denomination are growing faster than Christianity, including: none/atheist/agnostics.
Which has, of course, nothing to do with the validity of the belief (or absence of belief) in question. Let alone the evidential proof of the new testament writers telling the objective truth (rather than what they believed was the truth.

And maybe, in a few hundred years, the name of Jesus will evoke nothing more than a quaint swear-word from the general public.

So what? How is it relevant to the factuality of the Gospels?
