Sean Hannity offers to be waterboarded for charity

Me thinks jolly ol chaps at MI5 prefers cigarette butts. Maybe their will be a new attraction at Madame Tussauds featuring a wax rendition of Binyam Mohamed being interrogated by "John from MI5."
If you ever figure out what your point is, would you let us know?

You could at least tell us whether or not you approve of torturing suspects with lighted cigarettes.

Me, I'm against it. How about you?

Mancow broke down in 6 seconds without being physically damaged or disfigured. Sounds like pretty effective torture.

Yes. Without knowing that, its hard to say whether it was effective in the interrogation of KSM or not.

Not at all. No offense intended, but you failed to understand what was written. Try re-reading. Perhaps drop assumptions.

KSM was not waterboarded a single time, for six seconds. As such, Mancow's breaking down says nothing whatsoever about KSM's situation. No offense, but my reading comprehension is just fine. If there's a communication breakdown here, it can be chalked up entirely to your failure to write clearly.

Not at all. You just make assumptions about connections that aren't there. The writing is crystal clear and states the minimal of what is necessary and only says what is actually pertinent.

Drop the preconceptions and assumptions, it will help.

Not only that, He had several advantages over real prisoners who were waterboarded.

Amiee Kligman said:
1. He knew he was not in mortal danger
2. He also knew that he could have it stopped when and if he 'freaked'
3. He knew with certainty this would not happen to him again
4. Muller was able to communicate in English with his make-believe torturers, who were on his side, obviously.
I wonder if Hannity is quite so eager to follow through now. This was a tremendous embarassment for conservatives. Is he willing to put himself in a position to be an even greater embarassment? (I know. Hard to see how he could do that. ;-)

I made no assumptions whatsoever. I responded only to the words in your posts, which utterly fail to make a valid point.

It would be if Mancow was an actual conservative rather than a failed shock jock who needed a new gimmick.

Seriously, Stern listeners and O&A listeners can't agree on anything... except "Mancow sucks." :p

The ex-Navy cryptographer I work with said it doesn't matter. They were waterboarded as part of routine training without those same "advantages". The drowning reflex in your head doesn't care who is doing it, why they are doing it, or how tight your shoes are.

I've never seen evidence that he wanted to do it at all. Just some banter with Charles Grodin that Olbermann has tried to turn into some sort of sadistic machismo challenge.

This was a tremendous embarassment for conservatives.

Really? Did all the Freepers eat a pint of Ben and Jerry's? Where are these embarrassed conservatives (other than Mancow himself)? I wasn't even aware that Mancow was some sort of conservative spokesperson. I thought he was just a morning deejay. Are the hippies and commies really high fiving each other over Mancow breaking?

I think the truly pathetic thing is that Mancow knew so little about waterboarding going into it. Did this guy not talk to a single person who had undergone the technique? Did he never search youtube for videos of it? What a clown.

There seems to be this "divorced from reality" group in society. They dismiss water boarding as "having water poured on you". If that was the case, then they don't follow that premise with the obvious question: If its just water being poured on you, then why does it break people?

Mancow paid the retard tax.

Those two posts weren't mutually exclusive. If you fail to understand why I could perhaps take it to PMs so it wouldn't sound like I was talking down to you or something.

That depends on what he told them, and whether it happens to be useful to them or not, now doesn't it?

Not really. It actually depends on what the subject thinks they have to say to make it stop. Which makes what they do say at the end of the process worthless except insofar as it confirms the torturer's requirements. Until it does, the torture continues.

A tortured victim's testimony says more about the torturing authority than it does about the victim's reality.

Hannity should be tortured to deny Christ, on camera. With no time limit. That would be a test.

I think this is a common torture myth that goes unchallenged too often. If you were simply being subjected to pain, then yes it would be true. You say what you need to in order for the pain to stop.

The reason they water board people is that when the drowning reflex kicks in, the subject is in a state of panic and is incoherent. They try to reduce the ability to think clearly enough to be able to lie.

Water boarding is not equivocal to physical torture. I think they could also probably induce these states by merely putting the person in a sealed room and raising the amount of CO2 by just enough to cause their panic reflex to trigger (uh oh, I think I just disclosed how to break OBL without breaking the law for the Obama administration for when we capture him finally).

I guess it is hard to explain to someone who has never had that switch in their head flip before. I guess Mancow didn't understand it either. If they had asked him, at what age did you start self-gratifying when he "broke", he probably would have answered quickly and truthfully because he could not think clearly enough to lie.

How could you tell that he'd answered truthfully? Quickly yes, but he could say anything. If it didn't sound early enough for the torturer he'd work back until it did and the torture stopped.

You're missing the distinction between forced acquiescence to a given statement and extraction of useful information. Torture elicits an expected response, not an informative response.

We have satellites that go around the earth every 24 hours now. We have predator drones patrolling the Stans. We have sophisticated digital eavesdropping and packetsniffing. We can verify some forms of intelligence to some degree very quickly and figure out what is actionable.

Repeating the incorrect statement doesn't make it factual.

I never suggested that they were mutually exclusive. The first made an incorrect point (unless you were using the word 'effective' in a trivial sense, in which case the post was merely worthless). I pointed out why it was incorrect, and you responded with a non sequitur which I called you on in an admittedly uncivil tone. Sorry for the misunderstanding; I was just being needlessly pedantic. My bad. :)
