Sean Hannity offers to be waterboarded for charity

Consent does not mean that you can legally do anything with or to your own person. It is illegal to sell your organs, for instance. Let's review. Waterboarding is torture, whether you consent to it or not, but it is only illegal if you don't consent to it. So if a detainee is given the choice between waterboarding and another method, and they voluntarily select the waterboarding, it is then legal?

Oh, for crying out loud. At least think about these things before you say them.

Sex is legal. Forcing sex on someone is not.

Likewise, giving someone a choice between getting raped or having their hand shoved in a garbage disposal does not make the rape legal, even if they "consent."

No. That's not the same situation. The detainee would not have the ability to stop the procedure.

Of course they would. They could stop it by signaling the CIA interrogator and provide answers to the questions they were asked.

Yes, some things are illegal even with consent.

However, this does not negate the fact that other things --- many other things --- are legal with consent and illegal without.

No. Also you are not held to have consented to giving a mugger your money if the only alternative you were offered was being shot.

If you do not already understand why this is so, I do not think that it will be possible to explain it to you. Perhaps you had better take my word for it.

Until 1976, marital rape was legal in every state in the United States. These delineates of legal and illegal are no always so clear as you would like to portray them

Of course they would. They could stop it by signaling the CIA interrogator and provide answers to the questions they were asked.

And this makes it the same as a consensual demonstration how?

When the detainee signals his interrogators to stop and then says, "I don't know the answer," I suppose they towel him off and give him a ride home?

Ah, well, in that case it's definitely illegal for Sean Hannity to voluntarily submit himself to waterboarding. You may not be able to point to the precise statute that makes it so, but the legal precedent is unarguable.

Where did you get the notion that "I don't know" was an answer a CIA interrogator never believed?

I'm saying that in the instance of waterboarding, it is counterproductive to the torture appellation to this procedure if it becomes chic to give it a whirl regardless if the object of the exercise has consented to it.

Why are you saying that and what do you mean by it?

Where did you get the notion that I entertain such a notion?

So now it's, "Hey, all the cool kids are doing it. I guess it's not torture."?

Rape isn't a big deal. After all, millions of people have sex consensually every day.

Hmmm.... first hour nearly over, and I haven't heard Hannity say one word about it. I may have to admit to being wrong. :jaw-dropp

After it's over, they should give Hannity the choice to either resign from TV/radio forever, or do it again.

Where did you get the notion that I entertain such a notion?

I wouldn't describe these kids as "cool," but if people consent to being waterboarded for kicks, it certainly doesn't help the official position that this technique is immoral, reprehensible and has no place in a civilized society.

By any chance, did your face register the same look the "English language is incapable of accurately describing" when you composed this benighted comment?

And if, as appears to be the actual case, Hannity backs out of his offer like the pusillanimous hypocrite that he is, even though he would be doing it, not "for kicks", but to raise $1000 per second for charity, what does that say about waterboarding?

Wait, are you talking about the benighted comment that is parodying your own argument? Do you understand that your own argument is just as lacking?
