I know you know what "stupid rage" feels like JJ. I'm sure you've debated some mindless right-wing jingoists in your time. Kind of frustrating arguing with people whose world view blinds them to reason, isn't it? ;)

I'm having a hard time understanding the point of this thread? Aren't we above mindless baiting and insults?
No. Ridiculing Twoofers is so much fun.

Indeed... like stealing candy from a baby

However, as Penn (or was it Teller?) said:

No end justifies the means of lying

Their lame-arsed telling of what is an old joke is sad

Dihydrogen Monoxide

Claim: A junior high school student won a science fair by circulating a report about the dangers of 'dihydrogen monoxide.'

Status: True.

Example: [Collected via e-mail, 1997]
<snip/>
Even back then Nathan Zohner's project wasn't original, as spoof petitions about dihydrogen monoxide and other innocuous "dangers" had been circulating for years, and Nathan based his project on a bogus report that was already making the rounds of the Internet. Moreover, his target audience was ninth-graders, a group highly susceptible to allowing peer pressure to overwhelm critical thinking. Thrust any piece of paper at the average high school student with a suggestion about what the "correct" response to it should be, and peer pressure pretty much assures you'll get the answer you're looking for. Someone that age isn't very likely to read a friend's petition calling for the banning of whale hunting and critically evaluate the socio-economic and environmental impact of such a regulation. Instead, he's probably going to say to himself, "This issue
is obviously important to my friend, and he must have some good reasons for circulating the petition, so I'll sign it."

That said, this example does aptly demonstrate the kind of fallacious reasoning that's thrust at us every day under the guise of "important information": how with a little effort, even the most innocuous of substances can be made to sound like a dangerous threat to human life.

Not replying to anything, just a thank you... I found myself in a pub garden (we can't smoke here, don't you know) with a guy who was convinced about mihop. Don't think I changed his mind, but at least I knew I was arguing from a good place!

The evasive Bill Smith please respond -

Why are you here?

Are you attempting to recruit a few converts?

Are you attempting to spread malicious lies?

Are you after kudos from your peers?

You have come with nothing new. You have stated a theory that you have yet show no proof of or need for! Explain the 'quantity' theory you have and show what relevence it has!

Just to see if he can give us anything that vaguely resembles an arguement to his theory!

Welcome aligula :) So you'd be in the UK or Ireland? Can't say I disagree with the smoking ban, but why not allow designated "smoking pubs" or smoking bars within pubs? Where I live there are 'No Smoking' signs all over the place that are routinely ignored (for now ).

Anyhoo, yes you're in the right place. And as far as future debate goes, I'm sure there are many threads here that can fill you up with information. Or just ask.

That it's not there I suppose. Like the 5,000 massive floorpans that the floor concrete was poured into, like the 100,000 tons of structural steel, like the 110 acres of 4" concrete floor, like the 110 acres of rebar reinforcing....that kind of stuff....

So you are saying that thousands of tons of matter vanished into thin air in between the time the towers started to fall and they hit the ground?

i don't think you are allowed to smoke on this forum either. But I do have an occasional puff when the mods are not looking. lol

This is based on the "bill-the-troll system of quantity surveying", where you look at a bunch of GZ photos and claim you can assess the amount of any given material in the pile.

The smoking ban has decimated the UK Pub industry. Perhaps the reason that "smoking pubs" aren't allowed is that those designated as such would do a roaring trade whilst non-smoking bars would quickly close.

There are a couple of, local-ish to me, "smoking friendly" pubs where (after a late-night lock-in) sparking up a ciggy or two is largely ignored, but such liberal establishments are few and far between. The hefty fines and curtailment of licence may be a factor......

The smoking ban in Nevada has decimated the Las Vegas bar/pub industry. You can no longer eat and smoke in a Las Vegas bar.:jaw-dropp Welcome to 1984.

Whiners. In San Francisco they've driven the price of smokes up with taxes, kicked us out of the bars, restuarants, bus stops, public parks and plazas. On top of that, now they're starting to go after apartment dwellers.

Bet they are not as expensive as here? Don't move to the UK.....not sure of the current exchange rate, but 20 smokes are about £5 ($9?) and those are the cheap gut-wrenchers.
Rumours abound that our nanny-state type politicians are now considering banning smoking whilst driving.

Bummer! A carton here, in sunny Southern Cali, sets ya back $40US.
You just can't smoke'm anywhere. Other states even cheaper.

Getting close. Bargains can be found in the $6.50 range, highest price $8.70 so far. I forgot to mention that San Francisco is also regulating tobacco retailers; for instance pharmacies can no longer sell tobacco, effectively ending the flow of cheap smokes from Walgreens.

Just checked the exchange rate (£5 = $7) a carton of 200 smokes costing about £50 ($70) here. America, the Land of the (not Free but) almost Half-Price.

A day trip to Belgium can save any UK smoker quite a few quid. We are allowed to bring 5000 per person per trip back over to Blighty with a saving of about 30%. Smuggling is rife and cheap smokes are available frequently locally. But UK customs are on the ball and empowered with draconian measures not available to normal Police etc. For instance I do believe they need no search warrant, can impound your vehicle on mere suspicion and also you are legally obliged to make a statement if demanded or face prosecution.

Count yourself lucky.
