Christians who assume that there is a message, and that they feel the need to tell me about it, in the vain hope that others will agree with them in irrational mental constructs to avoid accepting reality. Or any religion that attempts the same.

Over and over I hear people stating mostly it’s the Christians they find offensive rather than Christ. If you judge Christ by his followers then you are not seeing him right since Jesus was the only sinless being who ever lived.

The second sentence does not follow logically as you have shifted the goalposts. If people have a problem with christians that does not imply a judgement of jesus. Sin is also a manmade construct. I dont see guilty turtles anywhere.

I also think it best to remember Jesus said it is not the well that need a doctor but the sick so Christians just have gotten to a place where they agree with God and they know they need a Savior then we repent and follw his teachings. Do we do it perfectly no, but we admit our need for forgivess as all have sinned and fallen short of the glory of God. If you could truly have the gift of repentance then you would know it’s all true.

We will know it is true when we have evidence to support that hypothesis, remember this is a skeptics forum.

So again I ask if God has made a way of escaping judgment for each of us who would not want to take it? The message of the cross is only foolishness to those who are perishing, but the good news is you still have time to change your mind and receive what Jesus did for you on the cross. He died for all of us so we could be reconciled to God, what’s so offensive about that?

You have shifted the goalposts a second time. You are assuming the reality of god, that we would accept that without proof, that jesus was divine, and that he had a message.

I ask you to provide evidence in support of your stance or at least a logical argument. Your evangelistic posting style only discredits your reputation.[/B]

The bottom line is Jesus is the one who can truly give us hope and a future as he has promised to make this world new again someday one where there will be no more pain or sorrow. I believe all the worlds sorrows have been rooted in our penatly for sin, that's why we die but Jesus promises new life, why wouldn't you want that? You can really have it better someday if you receive Christ but if you do not you will wish you had because hell is real too and many will send themselves for denying Christ's finished work on the cross. Have you really tried to see Jesus right for yourself?

Kathy, the gospel doesn't offend me. It bores me, but it'd have to contain some merit (either philosophical, charismatic or poetic) to qualify for being offensive.

The way that it is used by the intellectually cowardly and dishonest to justify their fear of responsibility is offensive, especially when combined with the baseless smug sense of entitlement and self-importance of which you are a glowing example.

It's my understanding that the association of Lucifer as the serpent is a "modern" one and originally the serpent was just a serpent.

Yes I've heard this as well. It was a "serpent" and a "fruit" not a snake and an apple and not Lucifer or Satan.

Although the words fish, barrel and shooting come to mind when replying to kk, I think she is trying for co-redemptrix, so she is not far off.

I am pleased for kk that she is at least trying to do some learning.

I have to take offense if you really believe that only Jesus can fix our problems. Does that mean that all Jews, Hindus, Muslims, Buddhists, Zoroastrians, and yes, unbelievers have no hope in our lives?

If so, what is your evidence?

I find it ironic that she used the "eternity in our hearts" notion, because it comes from Ecclesiastes (beautiful poetry if you read King James).

The quote comes from a passage where god essentailly tells us that we can never know what he's up to. This is the passage, 3-11:
"He hath made every thing beautiful in his time: also he hath set the world in their heart, so that no man can find out the work that God maketh from the beginning to the end..."

In more recent translations it goes: "He has made everything beautiful in its time. Also, he has put eternity into man’s heart, yet so that he cannot find out what God has done from the beginning to the end."

I love that passage. It basically means that the religious goofballs with all their certainty and faith have no idea what they're talking about according to their own book.

So strange that they've taken that passage to mean that god has given them all the answers.

Edit: this concludes another edition of an atheist who knows more about the bible than a believer.

Here's my question, Kathy, seriously: Can god change his/its mind? Or is God constricted by the Bible? Why couldn't god have decided, at any time, that Mohamad was right? Or Joseph Smith? Or Henry VII? Or maybe he's just walked away from the project altogether...I mean, Paul and Peter thought there was a pretty good chance it would all come together in their lifetime, and that was two thousand years ago...so maybe god has just shelved it all and being god and all didn't think you were important enough to let in on the change of plan.

"The Lord repented of the evil, and said to the angel that destroyed the people, it is enough: stay now thine hand." - 2 Samuel 24:16

"In those days was Hezekiah sick unto death. And Isaiah ... said unto him, Thus saith the LORD, Set thine house in order: for thou shalt die, and not live. ... Thus saith the LORD ... I have heard thy prayer, I have seen thy tears: behold, I will add unto thy days fifteen years." - Isaiah 38:1-5

"The Lord repented him of the evil which he had pronounced against them." - Jeremiah 26:19

"God repented of the evil, that he had said that he would do unto them." - Jonah 3:10​

(2) No.

"The Strength of Israel will not lie nor repent: for he is not a man, that he should repent." - 1 Samuel 15:29

"God is not a man that he should lie; neither the son of a man that he should repent." - Numbers 3:1​
