Mother Nature's most valuable plant

Crop grade hemp has a pretty minimal THC content.

Agreed, but if people were allowed to grow crop grade hemp it would become difficult to tell if someone was growing something stronger, and the police would spend a lot of their time doing lab tests on individual's plants.

The point is, it is possible for a manufacturer to gain a licence to grow low THC yeild hemp. They can then use this for oil and fibres. So why would you need to grow it yourself? It's the same for opium poppies. Licences are granted to allow poppies to be grown for refining into medicines, thus the process is regulated.

Because we want you to learn more than the most basic organic synthersis..

Hmm, what would be a good synthesis?

Hemp doesn't fix nitrogen. Agricultural claims are exaggerated. It needs to be grown in rich soil, for a good crop. It does deplete the soil. Its not a magic-bullet type plant. Kudzu is closer.

Well, to the opening title, I certainly don't think hemp is the most valuable crop. Corn, wheat, potatoes, tomatoes, yada, yada, yada, significantly whip its plant-ass on that point.

That said, I'm all for the legalization, taxation and somewhat controlled distribution of mj, according to the wishes of the individual state. I don't think the feds have a constitutional leg upon which to stand (although the SC seems to disagree, I digress).

The benefits of hemp used to be many, but not so much anymore. Nylon is a much more betterestlyer fiber, in terms of things like rope. It does make really good paper (constitutionally undeniable!), but synthetics offer cheaper and longer lasting solutions, although their cost is probably more also (don't really know); given the quantity of such, I don't think the difference is significant.

I guess it's a "think of the children" issue. Well, all things being equal, would you rather your son or daughter do a bong hit or a shot? Tough choice, no?

Hemp? This whole time I thought everyone was talking about Shemp!

Shemp is nature's most valuable plant!

Look, I'm all for legalization. And I have been known, on occasion, to partake.

But some of the claims made by marijuana advocates are just bat-crap crazy.

Yes, hemp can be (and is) used for useful things like rope, clothing, brownie recipes, etc.

However, it is not a wonder-drug that will cure cancer, a way to get off foreign fuel dependency, and a means to end poverty and bring about world peace.

Making these sorts of claims only accomplishes one thing - it makes the entire legalization effort (such as it is) look goofy.

Do you know why cannabis is prohibited? Because it makes people who favor it make silly posts like this.

Many of Hemps beneficial qualities are also in other plants- for example, nettles and ramie have fiber that is even stronger, and they grow in a vey similar fashion.

I agree that the claims of pot being a magical wonder drug are, to put it mildly, far fetched. I support marijuana legalization mainly because I'm firmly convinced that any bad effects that smoking dope might have are far less harmful than surrendering our civil liberties for an insane zero tolerance policy.

a bit off-topic;

poppies are a wonderful plant. In the temperate zone, they grow well; come up in early spring, during times of max. water and minimum insects. Their seeds are easily harvested and a good food source. The flowers are lovely, and make a fine honey crop.

The alkaloids are just the icing on the cake. Don't let the feds take our poppies!

Yeah. LEAGALISE HEROIN!!

Yeah. LEAGALISE HEROIN!!

Yes, let's do that. While we're at it, let's equate pharmaceutical heroin with ABC-authorized alcohol. Let's equate them both with 'rag-weed' (typical off-the-street MJ).

Tell me what you think of the three.

Perhaps you'd like to up the bet to pharmaceutical cocaine? How 'bout crack?

I'm NOT for the legalization of drugs 'harder' than alcohol (assuming there are drugs harder) -- except on principle. Principle sometimes falls flat on its face. Alcohol is an example of that.

In case you don't see my point, there are some 'chemicals' so addictive, so intrusive, that were there not some form of intervention, it would be like genocide for those societies not willing to regulate them in some manner.

MJ is not one of them, or if it is, it is so well discusised as to be a pea to alcohol's successes.

The most valuable plant in the world is blue-green algae, as it produces oxygen instead of greenhouse gases.

What happened to the OP? Where's your evidence, bwinwright? I've been waiting to hear some good sound evidence for this.

Indeed. I'm still waiting for bwin to explain to me how the cotton industry manages to survive without patenting cotton plants.

Regarding the thread title: The pot worth paying for has very little to do with nature these days.

:cool:Cannabis, hemp, or marijuana is the world's most valuable plant yet it remains illegal in America. Valuable? How so? George Washington, Thomas Jefferson, Ben Franklin, and virtually all of America's founding fathers believed hemp was the most commercially important crop in the world and encouraged all Americans to grow it.

Why? Because hemp had been used for thousands of years to make rope, canvas, the strongest, most durable clothing, even the finest lace. In addition, the seeds produce three times more oil than any other plant seed, environmentally friendly oil that, experts today say, can handle upwards of 90% of our total energy needs.

Also, after the oil has been removed from the seeds, these seeds can be ground into a flour that can produce some fine tasting bread. The cellulose in the plants fibers can be used to make thousands of environmentally friendly plastics. In fact, about a third of a Mercedes body consists of industrial hemp today.

The finest paper can be produced from hemp too. Hemp can be grown in the poorest soil, always enriching the soil in which it is planted. At least one, sometimes two crops can be harvested from the same field each year. Trees, on the other hand, require about 20 years before they are ready for paper production.

In addition to all these industrial uses, the flowers which contain the THC, have also been used for thousands of years as medicine. According to Rick Simpson, he has been using HEMP OIL to activate the natural immune system and cure cancer. Of course, marijuana has also been used to help glaucoma patients, and relieve the suffering of folks receiving chemo and radiation treatments.

So, if this plant is so wonderful, why is it illegal in America. Folks like DuPont, Rockefeller, and other wealthy folks conspired to make it illegal because you can't get an exclusive patent on the stuff. No patent, no big bucks!

It's quite an interesting story, how the wealthy industrialists conspired to eliminate this plant. We are talking about big time corruption.

Aaahh of course. Not it all fits together.

That new age vision of life couldn't go without some extra pot smoking.

Why can't I buy the neccessary ingredients for a meth lab? They arn't just used for making drugs you know.

you can probably buy anything you need to make meth at your local walmart.

i say probably only because they might be out of stock on some items.

Neato.

In my own feeble defense, I did say above that pot could be patented if it were genetically modified. For some reason, I didn't extend that logic to cotton plants. Dur.

Anyway, your link helps me and hurts bwin. Surely, big evil corporations could do the same with MJ thus making it an even more appealing product.

Evidence? Scientific evidence? Are you kidding? Anyone trying to get this information into an "accredited" scientific journal would be totally ignored. If they persisted, they'd have a heart attack, die in a plane crash, or worse.

I'm talking about a plant that, if legalized, would cost a few major players a lot of BILLIONS in losses. If you want evidence, do some homework. Hugh Downs narrates a 10 minute long audio on the internet. That's where I got most of my info. Of course, the Rick Simpson thing, healing cancer thing, is simply on the internet.

Regarding the cancer thing, check out HOXSEY, ESSIAC, Royal Raymond Rife, etc. All of these have allegedly cured numerous "TERMINAL" cases of cancer. The Rife thing is really interesting. He was a perfect 16 for 16 before "they", allegedly the Rockefeller-led FDA criminals, burned down his clinic, destroyed his research and his frequency machine and made Rife nuts.

The things folks will do for money and power is very ugly sometimes. Do you need proof of this too. Just do some homework. Suppressed cancer cures is a good place to start.

A truther? So many people around here use that term in such a derogatory manner, as if wanting to know the truth is somehow a bad thing. There are so many naive folks in this forum who actually believe World Trade Center Building Number 7 just committed suicide "and" that George W. Bush and Bill Clinton are good and decent people.

Wow! Oh, and so many of the truth-haters also believe orderliness doesn't require intelligent direction either. Talk about naive.
