VP Debate: The Palin substantial points thread

For those, like myself, not entirely familiar with the word, "recondite". From dictionary.com.

1. dealing with very profound, difficult, or abstruse subject matter: a recondite treatise.
2. beyond ordinary knowledge or understanding; esoteric: recondite principles.
3. little known; obscure: a recondite fact.

I guess Cicero is saying that he agrees that Palin didn't show a lot of knowledge or analytical skill with what she said. In particular, she didn't talk in a way that would appeal to people looking for educated discourse, but that doesn't mean she isn't brilliant. And even if there isn't evidence of brilliance, Cicero still thinks she's great because she's from the right party and she holds views that he agrees with.

As someone that shares at least some of Cicero's views, I would have liked to see somebody more capable of elucidating why those views are correct.

...
On the question of alternative fuels, Palin had a much more common sense approach, if not couched in a recondite intellectual fashion, than Biden.
...

I wish you had quoted what you had in mind with that comment. I just read through the section of the debate that seemed to deal with that issue. I agree that this is an area where Palin said some substantive things. I don't see that this is an are where she showed any particular brilliance, knowledge or analytical skills but she was on point and she stated clearly what the McCain position was. I don't see how her position had a much more common sense approach than Biden's. The positions seem to be quite similar to me.

As a practical matter looking at the situation outside the debate I agree that Obama/Biden are going to be less aggressive in pursuing fossil fuel and nuclear solutions than McCain/Palin. I am skeptical of the idea that carbon emissions can be reduced substantially from coal burning. My suspicion is that as a practical matter, if clean coal technology turns out to be impractical McCain/Palin would probably tend to favor expansion of the use of coal anyway and Obama/Biden would be reluctant to do so.

Excuse me if I do not take seriously Oliver's (who I beleive is not an American citizen/voter, yet leans left) question

Oliver is German. Nobody familiar with him takes anything he says seriously (though in fairness it's not because he's German).

And yet another post that doesn't go to the topic. I don't see Ziggurat as a partisan but he is at least sympathetic to the Republican side. Are there any areas of Palin's debate performance that you can point to as indications of insight or knowledge? Many of the people critical of Palin's performance in this thread, myself included, are Obama supporters. Could a McCain supporter give some specific examples of how this debate indicated that Palin has a reasonable command of the issues for a vice presidential candidate?

How does Biden explain fighting to a draw with a piece of "Styrofoam?"
He did not have to, because he comprehensively defeated a halfwit who was not a piece of styrofoam. As is shown by the polls of voter reactions to the debate.

If you are still too dumb to understand the actual content of my post, I suggest that you should read it again until you can read at the seventh-grade level.

You must have been kept back a few years. I though you were writing at least at a high school level.

***.."Frank Luntz and his focus poll of undecided voters and what they had to say. The focus group went overwhelmingly for Sarah Palin. The focus group felt as if she was one of them. They thought she was informed and likeable.

Frank Luntz even stated at the end that the reaction to Gov. Sarah Palin’s debate was so positive that we should watch the polls in the upcoming days as there will be a shift … GAME ON!

However, CBS and Hot Air states that CNN are reporting in their polls that Biden won. Sorry, I do not buy it. The MSM has been so in the tank and looking to depress the Republican vote, I cannot take a poll seriously that so many so-called “uncommitted” voters saw that debate as a clear Biden win.

Forty-six percent of the uncommitted voters surveyed say Democrat Joe Biden won the debate, compared to 21 percent for Republican Sarah Palin. Thirty-three percent said it was a tie. "..***

When I'm trying to get through to you, I try to reach down to your level. Seventh-grade English seems about right.

Now, did you understand what I wrote?

Can you object to the content of my post, or are you just going to whine and lie and fantasize about your pathetic objections about how I tried to make it simple enough for you to understand?

Well, I could try to explain to you why that means that Biden won and Palin lost, but then I'd need to teach you first-grade math and explain to you why larger numbers are larger than small ones.

McCain/Palin are the true change ticket.
[my opinion alone]

If they were really the change ticket, then they would have to prove that they actually understand what was wrong with the way the Bush administration governed during these last 8 years.

Remember when Couric asked Palin what is the "best and worst thing that Dick Cheney has done as Vice President?" Biden talked about shredding the constitution, condoning torture, the idea of a unitary executive where the Congress and the people have no power in a time of war and the President controls everything. However, Palin said the worst thing was the duck hunting accident. Then she praised Cheney for supporting the troops.

You can't be an alternative to Bush and Cheney until you can describe what they've done wrong.

Do you plug into the Bundeskanzler and Bundestag, or is your concern only for American politics?

If someone is going to say that Ahmadinejad is going to "wipe off the face of the earth", I will personally drive to Berlin and smack that guy on the back of his head. In other Words, German Politics is all about valium.

Many Americans object to your characterization of Palin as a "halfwit." But it is rather striking that even by the MSM, 36% thought the "halfwit" tied the supreme debater, and 21% thought she beat him. That means 57% thought Biden did not "comprehensively defeat" Palin.

Ahmadinejad's musings about Israel gets traction in Deutschland? I thought you guys grew out of that stage decades ago.

Many Americans object to your characterization of Palin as a "halfwit."
And their beliefs are also represented in the polls that show how badly she lost.

But it is rather striking that even by the MSM, 36% thought the "halfwit" tied the supreme debater, and 21% thought she beat him. That means 57% thought Biden did not "comprehensively defeat" Palin.
And if Obama beats McCain by a more than 2:1 ratio, and the "MSM" reports that too, then you are free to find that "rather striking" also, if that makes you feel better. Whereas I shall be cracking open the champagne and gloating.

Since I am not a McCain supporter, you could gag on your domestic sparkling wine.

You seem to ignore Luntz's poll with actual people. They beleive she won hands down.

No, we're sticking to the facts - in contrast to almost all US-Politicians,
including Palin in yesterdays debate:

Word by word translation:
Imam (Khomeini) ghoft (said) een (this) rezhim-e (regime) ishghalgar-e (occupying) qods (Jerusalem) bayad (must) az safheh-ye ruzgar (from page of time) mahv shavad (vanish from).

Well, that was bizarre. Did you understand my post in any way? Only it would have been great if you'd responded to it.

You seem to ignore Luntz's poll with actual people. They beleive she won hands down.
In between your vacous ravings, you came up with this statement which would be interesting if true. Would you mind substantiating it? Only I'm kinda interested in true things, I don't expect you to understand.

Nicely said normdoering and that is a very good reason for those of us who tend to be economically or fiscally conservative to have reason to be wary of routine Republican rhetoric. If it's not accompanied with some very specific ideas about what went wrong the same old Republican rhetoric in the face of the disaster of the last seven years is not very credible.

I liked your blog.
