Expelled - Why does Ben Stein hate America?

The only thing I could find is only available to premium members of Beck's site. I'm sure it won't be long before it hits youtube.

8 minutes in... believe it or not they somehow tie evolution into universal health care, and thus the German suicide pill:

That's the sight of two brain cells banging together.

"Doctors are killing people in Germany.." "Again."

Dear God...

Wow. I never heard of this Glenn Beck guy but he really seems to be a credulous moron. Ben Stein is hugely dishonest but at least he does have a brain.

He recently had a serious discussion concerning the possibility of geopolitical events leading to international disaster...with bible prophecies!

Just as long as you realize that the likes of Beck and Stein have already won the war for the voters of America...

Where is it? I watched the whole thing:boggled:

OK. Maybe I'm being generous (really, really generous) but the guy does have a good education. Of course education doesn't equate with intelligence - maybe he's one of those idiot savants (emphasis on the idiot part). I think he's a smart and hugely dishonest guy with an agenda. This makes him even more disgusting than just a plain stupid person. If you've got the intelligence to understand things but choose to believe BS and spread it using your intelligence - that's probably the most despicable thing of all.

I've never been a fan of his, so I can't really comment on past details, but I get the impression he is just another actor. How many of those do we have on TV pretending to educate?

Actually, I don't remember the words and I'm not going to view the TV crap again, but I believe he did say something honest when Glenn Beck referenced his "degree" and he said it was honorary. In any case, the proof is in the whatever, and educated he is not.

I was. I really enjoyed "Win Ben Stein's Money". This turn of his career is just almost unbelievable to me. It's like a completely different guy with the same name and (somewhat older) face.

eta: Finished watching the whole thing on you tube. How sad.

Did anyone watch Bill Stein on Glenn Beck?

Honestly, I was flaberghasted. Beck sounded like he had never even considered issues like evolution before. He "learned" a lot from Expelled.

Stein accused the Germans, today, of giving a "super pill" to old people so they could kill themselves, and this was entirely accepted by Beck. Not a glimmer that he had never heard of this before this moment with Stein. No questions asked.

Dawkins was quoted out of context, of course (and in dark sinister lighting in Expelled).

All educated young people today (except from Christian schools) have no respect for human life.

It was incredibly sad to see how this garbage can be presented without thought, all the while complaining that faith based science doesn't get equal time.

Actually it was sickening. Genn Beck goes into the same dumpster as Larry King. Even O'Reilly wouldn't be that stupid.
Beck believes in the end times, what did you expect from him?

If that guy was me, your apology will be accepted in advance, however long it takes.

So it did not cross your mind that I, as a German, think that Ben Stein spouting absolutely insane **** about Germany might indicate that he has overdosed on hallucinogenics?

You had to assume, instead, that I attacked you for pointing out that Stein did that, without me having any sane reason to do so?

In short, rather than assuming that I recognized Stein´s idiocy (to put it politely) for what it is, your default assumption was that I am an utter idiot.

Buddy, *I* am awaiting *your* apology for that.

His educational creds are good. Got his undergraduate degree at Columbia where he graduated with honors and his law degree from Yale where he was the class valedictorian (I think he referred to that in the interview as being voted on by the student body). His whole acting career was after his political career. So he's no slouch intellectually which makes his intellectual dishonesty all the more disgusting. Either that or he's simply gone bat crap crazy.

Not sure where best to post this, but Scientific American has done several articles on Expelled, including a recent podcast episode of Science Talk.

Here is a discussion with Mark Mathis, an associate producer of the film, and several people from Scientific American. At least as far as I've gotten into it, it is scathing and deeply satisfying.

My not being a fan simply meant that I never got into his shows. I had no other opinion of him, for what that is worth, but I have seen comments from many, elsewhere, who feel as you do now.
