Is Science getting closer to God and the Bible?

Does the bible predict nuclear war

Speaking of modern science and the bible, there are some who say that the bible predicts nuclear weapons and nuclear war.

Zechariah 14: 12 KJV

"And this shall be the plague wherewith the LORD will smite all the people that have fought against Jerusalem; Their flesh shall consume away while they stand upon their feet, and their eyes shall consume away in their holes, and their tongue shall consume away in their mouth."

"The neutron bomb melts (dissolves) its victims just as God warned 2500 years ago. Their flesh shall dissolve while they stand on their feet, Their eyes shall dissolve in their sockets, And their tongues shall dissolve in their mouths."

In a era of swords and spears that Zechariah lived in, eyes and tongues dissolving would have been impossible. And didn't Bush say recently that Iran getting the nuclear bomb would start WWIII. Isn't Iran interested in fighting against Jerusalem.

"there are some who say"? DOC, this forum is not Fox News. The "some people say" trick doesn't work here. And the link you gave is not a "some" either, the page says "An International Missionary Outreach Dedicated to Evangelizing the Lost". That's hardly "some who say...". For a bold claim such as nuclear weapons predicted in the bible you will need better material and sources than the above. Do you have any?

It is not a nuclear weapon. Radation does not disolve flesh. It is necrotizing fasciitis being described.

I asked you in post 248 why God sent necrotizing fasciitis I see you have finally responded.
God sent Necrotizing fasciitis so humanity could pay the price for nations attacking Jerusalem. Given God forced those nations to attack Jerusalem (Zechariah 14:2) in the first place, it just shows what an absolute tosser he is.

To me it looks like a Bible passage not about nuclear warfare, but about God smiting people. God has WMDs now? Does Dubya know?

Well thanks, but if you don't do personal attacks, you won't have to worry about apologies.

Does Randi have the three strikes and your out rule?
Oh, hypocricy, thy name is DOC.

There's so much of it in that one statement that I can't even begin to enumerate it.

Well, DOC. I apologize. You have indeed admitted to mistakes.......my statement that You NEVER admit errors was wrong and I fully admit it..........Now, until you you own up to the greater errors..... I must truthfully say, You almost never admit your errors.

Now that's just plain sorry!

Now someone ask "Sorry for what?".......... then again, in light of Thanksgiving approaching, let's not have a Sorriesgiving (eww(sic) sick) (too much stuffing) look no period --><---

Enough sarcasm and parenthesis for everyone? No?

He truly is sorry DOC (and will keep you in his prayers).

Indeed. In addition:

There are some who say the moon landing never happened.

There are some who say Elvis is still alive.

There are some who say the Queen of England is a reptilian alien.

There are some who say there was no writing system before 1200 B.C.

And then there are the rest of us who realize that the above is all a load of bullocks.

Well actually the word dissolve is the word the author of the website in post 344 used. The King James Version says this:

And this shall be the plague wherewith the LORD will smite all the people that have fought against Jerusalem; Their flesh shall consume away while they stand upon their feet, and their eyes shall consume away in their holes, and their tongue shall consume away in their mouth."

You certainly can't deny that the "blast" of a large nuclear weapon will consume all the flesh on anyone within a mile or two (or more) of the blast "while they stand on their feet." The radiation fallout which comes later might not consume your flesh but the initial blast certainly will.

And the verse implies several areas of the body (if not all areas) are being consumed at once which is not usually the case with the condition you mentioned. And the phrase "while they stand on their feet" implies something happening almost immediately.

Changes to the bolding mine, to highlight the two, slightly non-concomitant parts. Everyone who has fought against Jerusalem - within a radius of a few miles? Are they gonna be rounded up first?

And when did the residents of Hiroshima and Nagasaki fight against Jerusalem?

No, wait They were talking about greek fire.
NO, maybe it was a valcano eruption.
No, I'm wrong that predicts napalm.
No, wait, that predicts the Russian MOAB
Hold on, that predicts.... Well. you get the idea.

BTW, any chance of you actually making an apology for saying I lied about your intentions? Just wondering, you know. I wouldn't want to think you were a hypocrite or anything.

You know, it seems to me that the line "And this shall be the plague wherewith the LORD will smite all the people that have fought against Jerusalem" might just possibly be predicting a plague.

Well, you know when Christians say that the Bible is the "WORD OF GOD", and meant to be taken literally, they only mean "literally when it suits them". IOW< they are LYING.

As Fred Clark says, when they say that every word of the Bible is to be taken literally, they don't mean the word "literally" ... well, literally.

So Jesus and/or God are going to use neutron bombs after Jesus returns? Do they really need to do that? Couldn't they just will it to happen without a bomb?

Kind of sounds like the South Park version of Jesus.

Well, it is certainly a version of Jesus that conflicts with other versions that they push forward. One the one hand, they claim that the man-god literally performs miracles, and on the other they claim that the acts claimed by the Bible are figurative descriptions of non-miracle events.

Well, which is it?

The first definition for the word plague that answers.com gives is:

plague (plāg) pronunciation
n.

1. A widespread affliction or calamity, especially one seen as divine retribution.
