Beware of the beginnings
I said this over on SLC: I think Alex Jones is a very dangerous man. He is the modern day equivalent of the 30s SA-brute who knows how to downtalk opponents and thrive on the unreflected emotions of the gullible mob around him. He sure packs enough weight to pass for a contemporary Ernst Röhm as well. Give him time, the right circumstances and a critical mass, and he and his followers will soon scribble "OTer" signs on the cars and doors of people who do not agree with them. More serious actions to follow.
Kudos to Mark and Amy for actually conjuring up the guts and patience to confront these people. You are IMO the vanguard of those who defend democracy against those who abuse free speech and freedom of information awarded to them by the society they live in, for no other goal than to abolish it in the end.
I am German and I know from our history how things can turn out if you don't take the enemies of an open society seriously. When I saw Jones' behavior on Ground Zero, especially the moments where he high-fived the bystanding nutcases, I was painfully reminded of how loud, obnoxious appearance and outrageous claims of conspiracy can become fertile ground for ordinary citizens who are generally unable and unwilling to educate themselves on real facts.
We need more people who stand in the way of these bigoted and totalitarian asshats.
Luckily Jones and his cronies are still a small bunch as of now. But so was Hitler, who was laughed off at the beginning too, while everyone overestimated the ability of the Weimar Republic to defend herself against extremism. Look what happened.
So keep up the good work.
