Evolution Major Vanishes From Approved Federal List

That's a good thing. I wouldn't recommend anyone major at the undergraduate level in anything as specialized as evolution. Dozens of other narrow majors like that should vanish from the list too.

"Evolutionary biology" is hardly a narrow major.

From the article:

One of them, Lawrence M. Krauss, a physicist at Case Western Reserve University, said he learned about it from someone at the Department of Education, who got in touch with him after his essay on the necessity of teaching evolution appeared in The New York Times on Aug. 15. Dr. Krauss would not name his source, who he said was concerned about being publicly identified as having drawn attention to the matter.

Ok, everybody who thinks the government won't go through their almost-certainly illegal log of phone calls in the US to 100% certainly illegally see who legally called this guy to point out some public, but obscure, information, raise there hand.

Anybody? Anybody?

And not a few overly general ones, too. "Women's Studies," anyone?

I've always wondered, what exactly does one with a degree in Women's Studies do after graduating? My neice has a BA in it but returned to college for another BA in communciations. She pretty much had to start all over.

Any clues, anyone?

I dunno.. study women? I've been studying them for years, but I don't think I've learned a damned thing...

I think Ron Jeremy has a degree in this. At least he got straight A's in the Lab course.

Isn't the title of this thread a little misleading? It's not that Evolutionary Biology suddenly turned up missing, it was _blacked out_. (disclaimer: I don't open NYTimes articles, but Rachel Maddow discussed this today, and this is how she described it)

The DoE called it a "clerical error."

Dr. Krauss said: “Removing that one major is not going to make the nation stupid, but if this really was removed, specifically removed, then I see it as part of a pattern to put ideology over knowledge. And, especially in the Department of Education, that should be abhorred.

Removing that one major is not going to make the nation stupid, it will just highlight how stupid too much of the nation is already.

Bush voters got one of their own in power.

Maybe he's being politic and leaving room for it having been a mistake. Moreover, what happens if it gets jumped all over and really was some kind of error?

If a course dissapeared from the list and nobody can give a good answer why shouldn't this topic be split off to the paranormal forum?

When I first read the title, I thought to myself, "Well, that sounds like an awfully dumb major, they'd be much better off studying Biology anyway."

Then I checked the link.

Just because you know nothing about it doesn't mean it isn't worth studying.
