You are so deluded and self-righteous that it's not even funny. I'm sure those miners trapped in the ground were praying their hearts out. Too bad god didn't notice them. I'm sure the people trapped on the planes that went into the Twin Towers and the Pentagon were praying for salvation. Too bad they were'nt important enough for god. Oh and those people down in New Orleans, prayed.
I just don't understand people like you. You'll never feel true compassion for people because you think their misfortune is their fault because they haven't accepted Jeebus.
So why haven't you answered my proof that you want people dead and suffering so they'll either come to faith or be punished for not having faith? Because it's true and you can't contest it. Kathy, I think you need to get out of your own little neck of the woods, travel, see how other people live, experience other cultures -- then maybe you'll understand that people are people no matter what they believe and that they are worthy of compassion.
Oh what hell, I'm kidding myself. You'll never stop judging people. You'll never leave your little self-important, self-centered little world and join the human race.
Of course she won't. Joining the Human Race would require compassion. It would mandate courage. I would demand an active intellect, and a desire to use it to further the greater good, rather than to prop up one's own little corner of the Earth. In other words, it would require genuine FAITH.
If (and I genuinely mean "if") she were living a life of Faith, Christianity would provide to her an impetus to serve others, rather than herself. Real faith requires cooperation between people, rather than raw competition for scarce resources. It's the basic concept that one of us can have X, but if we work together and utilize a resource properly, we can not only have X, but Y, too. It's at the root of agriculture, manufacturing, services, in other words, basic economics. It's at the root of civilization. It's how we managed to go from a bunch of apes dipping sticks into anthills, hoping to get enough to eat, to people who could split atoms. (Not that splitting atoms has seemed to help us much. If we don't get our s*** together, we'll be back to dipping sticks into anthills...) I know this has been discussed in detail by Kropotkin, (damned if I can find
Mutual Aid anywhere in Sacramento), but it's generally at the root of most religions, at least those that aren't hell bent on self immolation.
I'll tell you what gets to me about the Church for the most part anymore: it's this obsession with the Last Days. Seems to me when I read the Book of Revelation, that wasn't something to look forward to. If anything, it was something we could put off for a few centuries, at least if I had my way about it. I don't groove on seeing people suffer.
If I had to guess, that's what's driving Kathy with all of this babble. You want me to listen to what you have to say about Jesus? Show me you got the basic message. Even if you don't believe a word of the Bible, you have to admire the basic idea of a guy who walks into a room, and heals a paralytic because he feels like it. You have to admire a guy who walks up to lepers and cures them. You've got to admire a man who keeps a lot lizard from being stoned to death. In other words, show me you're doing something along the lines of what you claim Jesus wants you to do. If you can't do that, you have nothing to show for your "faith."
I'll tell you something: You want to see someone I'd listen to about faith? Kittynh. A couple of years ago, I got an e-mail from her, and had the chance to help her out with something. That was a genuine blessing. It was an even greater blessing to learn what she did with the little bit of information I was able to send on to her. (I'll let her tell the story. It's really her right to do so, anyway.) She's compassionate, and it shows because she DOES what Kathy talks about doing. Kittynh is one of the most loving, honest, kind people here on this board. I don't know if this board would ever be the same without her. You gotta love her for that.
But, have you ever noticed: Kittynh isn't preaching. She's doing. THAT'S THE DIFFERENCE, KATHY!!!
Get a clue.
