The Gospel

Sex is a sin? I always thought orgasms were divine.
Unless you had them with Divine. But lets not go there. Sex is wonderful, with your husband or wife (or married mate of the same sex).
Thats where its best; i know.
Sex outside of marriage is just using someone else for their body. Its not fun if you are the one being used, and its disrespectful to a human being.

What is christianity? Its just belieivng what you want and having athiests (only the stupid ones) tell you you are a cancer and a mockery.
I know we aren't, it just shows how emotionally stunted they are. We forgive.
After one becomes a christian, we are more able to do something (the list above) such as stop sinning, etc. because the holy spirit in us empowers us to do so when we couldn't before. God is powerful. We know.

Actually lots of Christians suffer in silence trying to live a life that others say they must. Calling sex sin and perverted is unhealthy. Your claim isn't based on reality. People who have difficulty dealing with their problems are mocked by people like you. They are called perverts and told that there is something bad about them. I know, I was one of those people.

I know that I'm not a bad person simply because I don't follow your archaic laws about sex.

Look in the mirror sometime.

Here's another question that I have been pondering these past, few days, KK....

Do individuals such as yourself who absolutely believe in the power of prayer and... more importantly... that god does indeed answer prayers by performing "miracles" (in other words: producing results that cannot be explained through logical and rational reasoning) ever suffer from a form of "survivor guiltdict"... i.e. "answered prayer guilt"?

Think about it... you claim that Jesus/god himself had intervened in your life on more than one occasion to save you from your horrible existance, yet let's compare your plight to, oh... let's say the over 200,000 people died in the December 26th tsunami catastrophy... an estimated 73,000 died in the October 8th, 2005 Pakistan earthquake... 2,967 deaths recorded (not counting the hijackers) from the 9/11 terrorist attacks... and so on and so on...

How many prayers went unanswered in just these three examples, do you think? How many miraculous, divine interventions did not occur for these poor, unfortunate individuals?

Of course, it would be impossible to know just how many of these victims had actually prayed for a miracle to save them... that is, if they actually had the time to pray, what with each of them being caught-up in their own, personal version of hell at the time.

What we can know out of the previously listed number of fatalities is just how many answered prayers and miraculous saves occured: none.

So, out of curiosity, KK... how does one deal with the guilt, if any, of receiving your god's personal attention on such relatively trivial matters when compaired to the unimaginable suffering that these people endured before dying?

Did you even read my post? I said sex is wonderful. Please go read that post of mine again. carefully.

orango-your question wasn't to me, but my opinion is, after not getting answers and getting them, its random. Sometimes God feels like saving one (or many) sometimes He doesn't. I doubt theres anything we can do about it.

Thank you for answering, psy... I should have thrown it out for anyone to ponder.

To be honest, my post really wasn't meant to be a question, per se, but more of a way to get some insight into the mindset of a believer (in this case, specifically one who does believe in divine intervention) in regards to how he/she feels about how their god goes about answering prayers and such.

I must admit that I have problems with the notion of a god who uses an unknowable and seemingly random system to pick-and-choose whose prayers get answered.

Personally, I would have far, more respect for a deity that never gets involved in the lives of humanity than for one that causes people to suffer with the unanswered question of "why were my prayers not answered?".

I'll simply say, Welcome, Psy Kick.

Hey, you and I will probably not agree on a lot, but you're straightforward and honest with your answers. That's a refreshing change from a certain poster who started this mess.

Wow.

I think I looked in on this somewhere in the beginning and figured it would go into a quote fest from kk to kittens to oblivion.

Oblivion is never on time....

Did I miss anything in the preceding 50 pages than "Evidence?" and kk's drivel?

Yes, I read your post. Calling sex outside of marriage, masterbation, etc as sin is not healthy and it is not helpful. God doesn't step in and take away physical urges. That is a claim that is simply not founded in reality.

Sex outside of marriage is just using someone else for their body. Its not fun if you are the one being used, and its disrespectful to a human being.
I don't accept this at all. Don't get me wrong. I'm not encouraging promescuity I'm just againt labeling a human behavior as sin.

I lived with my wife before we were married for a year. We had a loving relationship and I was faithful to her. Getting married didn't maker her honest and it didn't make me respect her anymore than I did at any other time.

ETA: I agree with RoadToad. You clearly are willing to respond in a reasonable way and that is a good thing. I'm not anti religion it's just this specific issue is senstive with me.

Well, youre a little late with that welcome. I signed on 4 years ago, but didn't post much. I will now. I enjoy this board and its founders.
I doubt everyone agrees on everything. Find me a guy who agrees with me on things and I will snap him up right away. Doubtful that will ever happen, me being a christian and leftist.

Rand, I believe God disagrees with sex outside of marriage and even if I weren't christian, I would still agree. To me, sex is commitment forever; its better that way.
I never would tell someone not to, thats their business. Its just my take on it. Obviously, its not a popular idea with skeptics.
I am sure I am the only fundie christian who thinks its aokay for 2 females or males to marry. Marriage is good, in my opinion.
I lived with my former husband before marriage also. We had sex a few times before we married, because I knew he was THE one, and I knew it wouldn't happen very often.

Telling young people that sex is bad before marriage can prevent them from having a healthy sex life after marriage. You can't hear "sex is dirty and sinful" over and over again, then suddenly switch to "sex is a beautiful expression of love" without any inhibitions.

I've had sex with a man I loved. We were planning to be married, but that's a long story. Screw the bastard and screw his junkie slut.

But that doesn't mean that what we had was not love making, and a positive experience for us both.

How can unmarried sex always be exploitative? If two responsible adults choose to have sex and enjoy it, neither can complain that they were used. If one partner doesn't enjoy it, I recommend either working on the relationship or just finding someone who isn't lousy in bed.

Or if you're a dope fiend, look for someone who is good in bed and does the same drugs as you.

Sorry. Got off on a tangent. My point is that love - not marriage - is the difference between making love and just &*^#ing.

Further derail - what's so bad about responsible f**(ing ? You don't have to be in love to want to bed someone, and you don't want to bed everyone you love.

I believe committed relationships are good for families, individuals and society. I don't think that there is any evidence that pre-marital sex has any influence whatsoever on committed relationships. FWIW, Mormons have the "forever" part of relations trademarked.

Cool, we are in agreement.

I'm not certain as to what I should infer, what is your point?

Nope. I paint winged eggplants and talking wombats for a living. Truth is for wildlife artists. I want the option to put little hats on things.

You know, I did not realize that you were an artist. Unfortunately, your homepage is blocked by my firm's screening software, so I'll have to consult it later (I hope to find there examples of your work).

But I wasn't speaking of representationalism in art (artistic realism) when I referred to the truth-value of art.

I'm not quite sure what you have in mind by "any influence whatsoever on committed relationships". I am under the impression, for example, that there's evidence of a relationship, even if not entirely understood, between premarital sexual conduct and the likelihood of divorce.
