Cont: The Russian Invasion of Ukraine part 9

What part of "Putin has stated many times he wants to destroy the United States as a Major Power" does/nt Trump or his GOP supporters get.

You seem to be incorrectly assuming that those in question are patriots. Actions speak much louder than words, regardless, and the Republican Party is well known to rely heavily on using words to try to convince us that up is down and down is up.

ETA: Going further, the constant invocation of patriotism by those who have literally and nationally worked to sabotage the US for the sake of seeking personal and political benefits to their party for my entire lifetime is something that I find to be vile.

No he's lost the plot. Virulently racist, denies global warming, I don't think he's gone vaccine denial YET.

Unfortunately, lately, he's been putting forward arguments from the anti-vax playbook and generally supporting them. Going further, the Trump Administration in general have been taking concrete actions to undermine vaccination in the US for a while now. Kennedy and Hegseth in particular.

Of course, I have no party loyalty whatsoever.

Yes, you do. If you have to advertise to everyone in every thread you participate in how non-partisan you are then you're just a different shade of grey. Believe it or not, atheism is as much a religion as any other denomination. Trust me, you're as much, if not more, partisan than anyone.

I'm genuinely curious if there was GOP pushback on Trump behind the scenes. I don't want to give them undeserved recognition but they had to realize how ◊◊◊◊◊◊◊ terrible the optics of that was, especially when Musk pointed the finger at the White House.

Being the cause of innocent Ukrainian deaths is going to hurt worse in the midterms than gas prices, well..for some at least.
A joint senate declaration was sent to Trump. I don't know if he ignored it like he usually does.

Meh. This is a side note, but... atheism is a lack of belief in gods. It is not really an affirmative thing that even can count as a religion, by definition. Atheists do have beliefs, though, of course, and some of those may qualify them as being part of a religion. Atheism isn't the religion, though, much as it could be a component of such.

It's a good article, but the one thing I'm not seeing it address is that Yandex's cloud compute was severely affected by the attack. That infrastructure hosts VMs, which are commonly used to operate bot farms, and I ain't talking small ones. Perhaps I follow a different crowd of technical people online, but that's mostly what I had seen people claiming. That knocking the AWS-style infrastructure offline caused the automated software on web hosted VMs through Yandex to fail, thereby decreasing traffic.

I understand the point that this gentleman is making, and it's absolutely true. Trying to imply that bot activity fell based on HTTPS traffic from cloudflare is not a convincing statistic, but that doesn't mean it wasn't true. Just that the specific evidence that some folks are using isn't the best way to prove it.
Thanks. Just as a point of information, Renee DiResta is a lady rather than a gentleman. She is very involved in looking at disinformation campaigns, specifically those launched by Russia, so I think she has good credentials. I personally don’t have the technical knowledge to judge either way. However, I think the other bit of information that’s important is the level at which some of the claimed topics, such as AfD, did not change to any noticeable degree when looking at the stats as opposed to people’s intuitions about it.

Unfortunately AfD is a very popular party in Germany and presumably their voters voice their ideas online. So it is not as though all the traffic needs to come from Russia.

Denys Davydov's video from earlier today ends with a report that the Ukrainian embassy in the US has been told by US intelligence agencies if Ukraine attacks any more Russian energy facilities the US will immediately stop sharing intelligence information.

<edit> I paused the video the moment he said it. Having watched on I now gather he was quoting the Washington Post.

Yeah. Almost certainly he would have heard pushback from various quarters. Hopefully some Republicans, yes, not that he cares what many of them say. Of course a lot of European governments will have had a word with him as well, not that he cares what they say either.

They are one of the official Trump mouthpieces.

Hoping this (insert sufficiently strong word here, I can't think of one, maybe Shemp can help) ends after the midterms. Like that migrant caravan that was all over far-right news and then apparently seized to exist after voting day. But that's the problem, you never know with Drumpf, it's like the (redacted) rolls ◊◊◊◊◊◊◊ dice to help him decide what stance to take every week. Or day. Or hour. ◊◊◊◊ him and the russian premier who rode in on him.

The ability of Trump to dig even deeper even faster never fails to surprise me.

"But then it was supposed to be a very quick war, and if you remember the tanks going up the highway right into Kiev, had the general who was obviously not a good general not made a right turn into farmland"

It appears Zelensky ought to apologise to Trump on behalf of his country, for inconveniencing Donald by smashing the Russian assault on Kyiv. It would have been so much simpler if they had simply let Putin win and become a Russian puppet state.

I'm sure the voters will be delighted to see you blame Zelensky for Putin's failures. Not. Keep up the bad work, Donny.
