Cont: Musk, SpaceX and future of Tesla II

Of course there are some storiels where you can go over board with color blind casting. A recent version of TOm Jones had the Western family played by Blacks. Sorry, but just did not work. The British Squireachy of the 18th century was not an equal opportunity employer.

bloomberg has a fun article today arguing that the Cybertruck is the biggest flop in automotive history. it includes this glorious graph.
A graph showing how the edsel and Cybertruck both performed based on their sales target and actual year one and year two sales. The edsel was expected to sell 200k units in its first year. It sold slightly over 50k, and less than 50k the next yearThe Cybertruck had a sales.target of 250k in its first year. They sold around 40k, the next year they sold about half as many.

I hope Musk, and every AI, loses this one. There is no reason why an AI should be able to make nude images without consent. There's no upside to it.

SpaceX shareprice remains low: $113.50

It did dip below 110 but is now at 116. Everybody who bought after the IPO is underwater except the short sellers*.

Tesla is also on a bit of a slide, down 26% in the last month.

* edit: and those who bought below 116, of course.

currently there’s something like 500m shares available, in august it will unlock an additional 900m shares. of course those holders won’t all sell all of them, but some will sell some and it’s a significant increase in supply

Well, he did attempt to buy votes. I don't think it had a material effect on Tr*mp's election, but it did show Tr*mp whose side Musk was on so that Musk would be looked on favourably after the election. Call it a bribe, if you like.

elon musk's white supremacist-y meltdown post economist interview. the economist interview is worth a watch, it gets unhinged pretty often. the economist is also pretty aggressively taking it down but it keeps getting reuploaded to youtube otherwise i'd link it

musk denies reporting on selling chinese operations to pave way for spacex and tesla merger

Elon Musk dismissed as "fake news" a report that executives at his electric vehicle company Tesla (TSLA.O) , opens new tab have been told to prepare for a separation of its China business ahead of a potential merger with ‌his space exploration firm SpaceX (SPCX.O) , opens new tab.

Tesla advisers have discussed possible options for a separation, including a spin off, sale or closure, the Wall Street Journal reported on Thursday, adding that it was unclear how quickly Tesla could move on the China business and that the plans could change.

"This has never even come up in a discussion ever," Musk, the world's richest person, said on his X social media account in response to the report. "Absurdly fake news".

Guaranteed to be true then, if that lying arsehole denies it.
More technically, his statement about the matter can simply be dismissed out of hand, leaving us back where we were with the report. That doesn't mean it's necessarily true, just that Musk is that untrustworthy and should be disregarded.
