Big Tech Shills Seethe as More Americans Rise Up Against Data Centers and WIN (The Humanist Report on YouTube, July 22, 2026 – 20:42 min.)
Americans across the country—regardless of their political affiliation—are rising up to oppose AI data centers… and they’re winning! In this video we’ll talk about how the stress imposed on local communities by data centers is forcing traditionally non-political Americans to take action to protect their communities. We’ll also discuss the hilariously pathetic pitch big tech shills are making to convince Americans to support the construction of more data centers.

Mentioned in the video:
"This massive energy demand is exactly equivalent to the amount of electricity needed to power approximately 4 to 5 million U.S. homes simultaneously."
Meta expands Louisiana data center to 5 gigawatts, investment crosses $50 billion (Reuters, July 13, 2026)
Meta’s Hyperion AI data center will sprawl to four times the size of Manhattan’s Central Park (Fortune/Yahoo!, Feb 4, 2026)
Meta orders 10 gas-fired power plants for its Hyperion AI campus in rural Louisiana—more than triple the initial plan (Fortune/Yahoo!, Mar 27, 2026)

Burst, bubble, burst! Please burst!

This was five days ago, but ...
Trump’s climate denial COLLIDES with America’s apocalyptic summer (MS NOW on YouTube, July 18, 2026 – 8:33 min.)
“The problem is here and it is getting worse. This is no longer abstract or theoretical,” says Chris Hayes as wildfire smoke blankets U.S. cities.

7:20–> It's here, the problem, it's going to get worse. It's not abstract. It's not theoretical.I think most people get that.
The other thing is that we actually do have an opportunity to transfer rapidly to carbon-free energy that right now is growning at rates never seen before, surpassing all expectations and literally at this moment is already ready to go and scalable.
Right now, if we do that, if we do it rapidly enough, we can alter the trajectory of our future summers so that this, what you're seeing right now, what people have been experiencing, tens of millions of Americans, remains maybe a freak strange occurrence, something that happens once in a while, rather than a future in which our own kids look back at this summer and this experience as the good old days.

But that is obviously not what Big Oil is paying Trump and Carney to do.

In 2025 data centers accounted for 1.9% of global electricity consumption. In May 2026 Bloomberg predicted it would reach 3.6% by 2050. If the AI bubble 'bursts' now it won't make much difference to total energy demand. What will probably happen is not complete collapse of the AI industry, but lower consumption as the technology improves and needs less compute. It isn't the big problem people make it out to be.

This is what we need. Sad that people have to suffer, but it's needed to goad people into action.
But that is obviously not what Big Oil is paying Trump and Carney to do.
Carney's just trying to run the country.

The reason the Canadian government has to build the pipeline is that 'Big Oil' doesn't want to do it.

Where Are the Customers? Why the Idea of a Pipeline to Asia Is Built on a Fantasy
Inside Ottawa’s corridors of power, there is a renewed political appetite for the old idea that Canada is an “energy superpower”, and that more pipelines automatically equal more prosperity... There is a dangerous new certainty circulating in federal circles: that oil demand will remain strong for decades and that Canada would be foolish not to seize the supposed opportunity.
Who would say no to more prosperity? Not Canadians, which why is Carney is onboard with this. Now that the government is paying for the pipeline public opinion might swing away from it, but probably not enough to stop a project who's use case is iffy - because Canadians just aren't that concerned about global warming. Perhaps some massive wildfires might help to change their minds.

He isn't "just" trying to run the country. He is trying to run the climate into the ground – probably because that's what his donors told him to do.
And the Canadian government doesn't have to build the pipeline. Big Oil doesn't want to because it's not profitable.

Who would come up with the idea that the thing that ruins the climate and causes wildfires is the road to prosperity? It's not likely ordinary Canadians did.

So have we finished our feminist analysis of various energy systems?

OH HELL NO!

In this one, we take aim at then redheaded stepchild of the renewable energy industry, geothermal. Apparently a little to hairy chested for our author.

‘The smokin’ hot trophy wife of the oil and gas industry’: The role of petro-masculinity in geothermal rhetoric and policy

When I describe wind and solar as girly I'm actually applying a progressive, feminist analysis. Just in a rather playful and whimsical way.:)

LoL Chris Hayes, wagging his lips instead of getting out on the solar panel installation team. Oh you mean someone else has to do the heavy lifting to make his super fast transition possible? Wind and solar everywhere, everything electrified at a phenomenal pace? Yea, it's been mentioned many times before, get a new schtick, Chris.

Oh, and who's that CCP shill that wants China to win the AI race?

The Canadian government pretty much has to pay for the pipeline as Big Oil is hesitant due to historically onerous regulations imposed on the industry. Big oil simply doesn't trust the government. Hey, I got an idea, how about Europe pay Canada to not build the pipeline? I mean, nobody's going to be buying oil in the near future, right? So a bit of construction costs, a few years of lost revenue. Pipeline, no pipeline, Canadians win either way.

Well well well. The ECMWF euro weather model is now catching up with the 'alarmist' GFS model and has 42C in the forecast for France next week with the heat pushing into central Europe. Euro has worst of it dodging UK (33C max) while GFS still says 39-40C for the UK....

“While oilsands carbon pollution more than doubled from 2007 to 2024 to 92 million tonnes, the ability of facilities in Canada to capture carbon from industrial sources hasn’t yet grown beyond a few million tonnes of emissions per year.”
Canada’s promises to capture carbon span almost 20 years, with little gains (Narwhal, July 21-22, 2026)
Stephen Harper swore by it; Mark Carney is ready to invest taxpayer dollars in it. A Narwhal investigation reveals how Canadian politicians have bought into an unproven technology they tout as a climate fix

Marxist Monster Mayhem on bsky, July 25, 2026
This technology has been a scam since I first heard Jason Kenney promoting it in 2007. The neat thing about the tarsands is that carbon is already captured! To avoid needing to recapture it, leave it in the ground.

Billionaire logic is that it makes more sense to terraform Mars rather than to stop venusifying Earth, and that it is a better strategy to build underground bunkers than to make the whole planet a better place to live for everyone.

Neil deGrasse Tyson says CCS works, and everybody loves NdT

The Swiss make the wonderful machine NdT is talking about, and everybody loves the Swiss.

No wonder Carney loves CCS. All Canada needs to do is install about 20K of those Climeworks Mammoth machines and Canada can be the world's first net-zero country. Not to mention, these things would make excellent camouflage for data centers.

Hummm AI slop suggesting Mars was once ruled by conservatives. Funny until you come to the realization that the world's largest Communist country is also the world's largest emitter. Wait...then it becomes even funnier. :)

Stout doesn't understand parody. What else isn't new.
He also doesn't understand that the Chinese have contributed a tiny fraction of CO2 emissions in comparison to Americans and Canadians. There just happens to be many more of them in comparison to the number of North Americans.
CO₂ emissions per capita (Our World in Data)
(Like Trump, it isn't really a question of not understanding, so much as it's a question of not wanting to understand and pretending not to understand. It's all about appearances.)

Apropos of Trump:
Trump officials herald a 'golden age' of science. Critics say it's a distraction (NPR, July 24, 2026)
White House officials say they are ushering in a new "golden age" of science, with changes to grantmaking and priorities like AI and quantum computing. Democrats say it masks damage to U.S. science.
With an audio, 4 min.

White House report calls for big changes to ‘calcified’ U.S. science system (Science, July 22, 2026)
Arguing that the pace of discovery in the United States has greatly slowed in recent decades, a new White House report calls for dramatic changes in how the federal government supports science.
‘Totally DISCREDITED!’ Trump Orders Probe of National Academy of Sciences Over ‘Bogus’ Climate Guidance (Mediaite/Yahoo!News, July 20, 2026)
President Donald Trump ordered federal officials to review the conduct of the National Academy of Sciences, accusing the organization of providing "fraudulent, biased, and misleading" climate guidance that he claimed influenced major court decisions and cost the U.S. billions.
(...)
The manual's fourth edition, released in December, included a new chapter on climate science designed to assist judges evaluating expert testimony and documentary evidence in climate related cases.
And that's what bothers Trump:
The National Academy of Sciences has historically published analytical Scientific Manuals expressly for our Federal Judiciary. Of course, the Academy has been run by Radical Left Dumocrats who, it turns out, published fraudulent, biased, and misleading Manuals on Climate Change. These bogus Manuals were used by Judges to decide massive "Climate Change" Cases, and have created huge losses across our Country. These Manuals have been totally DISCREDITED. Our Nation's Federal Judges deserve Facts and Science, not Political Fraud and False Science on Climate. With this TRUTH, I hereby order Federal Suspension and Debarment Officials to review this conduct. Our Taxpayers should not be funding Climate Fraud, and Judges should never have relied upon it. Thank you for your attention to this matter! President DONALD J. TRUMP

It should come as no surprise to anybody that the guy who has no idea how magnets or electricity work, thinks that windturbines cause cancer, and that hydroxychloroquine, injecting disinfectants, and ultraviolet (administered orally or as a suppository?) can cure Covid, that that guy has no interest in science but has a beef with it because it's an obstacle to him and the fossil-fuel owners who bribe him.
Trump Having Scientists Investigated For Proving Him Wrong (Farron Balanced on YouTube, July 25, 2026 – 6:25 min.)
Donald Trump has ordered a federal review of one of America's most respected scientific institutions after lashing out at climate research, escalating Republicans' war on science while blaming everyone else for the consequences of their own policies.

I wonder if Trump's persecution of actual scientists will result in the appointment of subservient scientists to lead the National Academy of Sciences. A guy like microbiologist David Relman, who not only defended the lab-leak theory of SARS-CoV-2 but also came up with a peculiar theory of sound, might be up for a promotion in the coming days or weeks ...

China has certainly played an impressive job of catch up. From starving to death "for the cause" during the Cultural Revolution to being the world's largest polluter in just a few short decades and suckering in a bunch of western dupes to come to their defense by blathering on about per capita emissions.

But...Look over there...TRUMP!

Nice try CCP shills, nice try.

Continued from post 2,497:

Stout prefers to look at the by-country emissions for this reason while disregarding that China has a population of 1.41 billion people and the USA has only 0.34 billion, so let us look at this instead:
Who has contributed most to global CO2 emissions?
USA 399 billion tonnes of CO2 – 25% global cumulative emissions
China 200 billion tonnes of CO2 – 12.7% global cumulative emissions
(Canada 32 billion tonnes of CO2 – 2% global cumulative emissions)
However, these are the 2017 numbers, and China's percentage of cumulative global CO2 will be higher today but still nowhere near the USA.
Chart of The countries with the largest cumulative emissions 1850-2021 (scroll down!)
USA: 509 billion tonnes of CO2
China: 285 billion tonnes of CO2
(Canada: 65 billion tonnes of CO2)

But...Look over there...CHINA!
But don't look at per-capita emissions. NEVER look at per-capita emissions, because that destroys the misdirection of anthropogenic-global-warming deniers.
Awwwww the denier charge again, that's always so sweet when that one gets trotted out. :)

So where are we now?

We've firmly established that anti-capitalism (or Communism if you want to be honest) won't produce a society that reduces emissions even if you want to deflect from the reality that that society is the world's largest emitter by repeating the mantra per "capita emissions, per capita emissions ohmmmmm". Sorry, Thunberg.

In post #2333 ITT we're informed that the 10% being asked to cut back their emissions is fascism, so no solution to be found there I'm afraid.

Global CO2 emissions are pretty much flatlined at a rate that makes this 1.5C "limit" unattainable. You know, the doomsday limit. Or so they like to tell us. Negative feedback loops yada yada.

Looks like we're faced with what amounts to an unsolvable problem. Bitching and moaning on the Internet won't solve it, standing around with a sign won't solve it. Like I said in a previous post, the only way to solve it was to not only keep those restrictions imposed during the pandemic but enact an equal amount of subsequent reductions every year for the next 10 years. Oh yay! Everybody in the climate industry actually knows this but can't admit it because it would be bad for business.
