People knew Platner had some political baggage. In some cases, he admitted to his past transgressions (such as his toxic social media posts) and his willingness to admit his faults lead some people to think he had reformed. Other problems (such as his tatoo) had an explanation that seemed plausible.

Of course, anyone who criticized Platner over this stuff but voted republican for ANY office since 2016 have no such excuse. Not only has Trump done things that were far worse than anything Platner has done, he has for the most part been unrepentant (meaning you cannot say "it was in the past, Trump recognized his faults and has reformed"). Republican politicians have by and large supported him despite the felony convictions, despite references in the epstein files, despite Trump being on the hook for millions over the E. Jean Carroll allegations.

No, they are dropping because credible rape accusations line up with a pattern of behavior. We're not talking about republcians.

People who support Trump do not in general believe the Carroll allegations, they think she's lying. A jury verdict in a civil trial isn't proof that they are true. The felony convictions are a joke over stuff nobody cares about, and nothing actually damning has come out of the Epstein files.

Do you think Platner's accusers are lying?

This is a counter-factual hypothetical which cannot be falsified.

The double standard which isn't hypothetical but demonstrated is the press reaction to Platner's Nazi tattoo versus Hegseth's Christian tattoo.

The matter was decided in a court of law. If the jury found that Carroll's allegations were untrue, they could have decided against her. and while it was a civil trial and not criminal, it is still stronger "evidence" in the allegations against Trump than against Platner (where the allegations have never been brought up in court, either civil or criminal)

They are still confirmed instances where trump BROKE THE LAW. You and the MAGAchud might not care about it, some people actually think a person who commits fraud and gets convicted (even over something low-key like falsifying business records) lacks integrity.

Ummm... the Epstein files contained allegations that Trump sexually assaulted a minor. That's pretty damming in my opinion.

And its true, it didn't result in a criminal case against Trump, it was serious enough to involve the FBI.

The Justice Department released a batch of previously unreleased documents from the Epstein files that include notes from FBI interviews with a woman who says she was assaulted by President Trump as a minor....While these allegations remain uncorroborated, there is new reporting Geoff tonight from Julie K. Brown of The Miami Herald, who's broken much of the Epstein story, saying that DOJ officials who spoke to this woman found her to be credible and that they wouldn't have interviewed her four times if they didn't.

Plus, we have Trump admitting that "Epstein likes them young", suggesting that Trump KNEW that there were underage girls involved.

Compare that to Platner... he has accusers. And while the allegations against him are credible, they haven't even been under scrutiny from law enforcement.

No I do not. I think his history (his admitted record of questionable social media posts, the trickle-truthing, etc.) has negatively affected his credibility. I think his latest accuser has provided enough evidence to suggest her claims are likely accurate.
 
Trump raw dogged a porn star weeks after his son was born and then paid the porn star to not tell anyone. He's openly admitted to sexual assault on a hot mic and bragged about walking into dressing rooms to see teenage girls naked. Oh, and don't forget about the statements made by his ex-wife about his sexual aggression towards her.

The only people ◊◊◊◊◊◊◊ stupid enough to buy the lie that Trump isn't in the Epstein files, or that he isn't a sexual predator in general, are his brainwashed\dead supporters. Anyone with a room temp IQ knows otherwise. To deny it at this point is willful ignorance.

Trump has engaged in activity that is just as bad, if not worse, than anything that Platner has done, according to allegations. And yet Trump maintains strong support among republican voters.

So its a bit more than just a "hypothetical".

What "double standard"?

I have seen plenty of media reports about Platner's tatoo (certainly more articles about Platner's tatoo than Hegseth's.) Furthermore, I have also seen reports (again in mainstream media) that Platner may have been lying about the origins of his tattoo.

So the mainstream media certainly isn't "hiding" anything about Platner.

Now we have Platner, a candidate that was (initially) thought to be the "progressive democrat" wet dream... said all the right things on things like health care, Israel, etc. Got plenty of support from people like Bernie Sanders. Anyone suggesting Mills as a a candidate was seen as somehow "backwards" and too "establishment". And now it might all be going down the drain.

Maybe things are a little more complex than "gosh some Democrat lost it must be because their policies were too far left/centrist/etc.".

But the party establishment is so horrifically bad at reading its voters that it keeps putting up corporatist dDems in the mould of Ray-Gun or Shrub*, hence why Platner got so much traction despite having so many red flags. He was willing to talk the talk that ordinary Democratic party voters need to hear.

You're objecting to the kind ofe economic and social policies that millions of drowning Americans need if they are ever going to survive.

*i.e. a hairs-breadth to the left of current GOP policy, but circumspect enough not to shout it from the rooftops.
 
Platner just suspended spending on his campaign and is taking down his ads. He will be gone within a couple of days at the most.
