Can't quite read it but I expect it's eagerly looking forward to a thousand years of a society not based on class.

I can see why Trump would like the story; it's about a king getting some boat people to do his dirty work for him. Which involves killing some nasty indigenous types.

The US was never a democracy. A system where your vote counts 100× or 1× depending where you live isn't ademocracy.

I'm not gonna be one of those guys who fly off the handle when democracy is brought up "It's not a democracy, it a constitutional republic!"

But yeah, for all intents and purposes it's a democracy. A deeply flawed one at the moment, but still a democracy.

I'm not intimately aquainted with the landscape there, but wouldn't that require building more mountain?

I do recall that the original plans were to continue carving much further down, creating busts, but the rock proved to be too unsound to dare carving below neck level.

I'm not going to say outright that if Trump "knows a guy" with jackhammers and dynamite that it will definitely lead to the collapse of the entire monument. I am merely raising the idea of something you might like to bet a few grand on.

It's such a shame that this is the 250th anniversary that the USA gets. What ought to be a celebration of 250 years of history is squandered on the present-day issue of Trump trying to claw back support for the mid-terms by branding all his opponents as communist enemies of the state. It's so small-minded and self-obsessed it's genuinely pathetic.

Yes, I can't get into the spirit of it (the same with the 250th Birthday of my Marine Corps last year) because of the co-opting from that political party. It should be an equal celebration, parties aside, for all Americans.
