Ed Israel/US Attacks Iran /Yet Another Country/Iran

Let's admit that the Iranian regime is slightly more coherent than Trump, but both are equally detestable …
Agreed, but then you can coherant and lie like hell. Iran is certainly capable of attacking shipping in the GUlf just send a scare into nations and make them pay up.
And Trump is capable of attacking Iran just in a temper tantrum.
Iran has been a disaster for him. It might be the point where ,finally, parts of the GOP begun to turn on him.

I don't know who to beleive in the latest exchange of fire in the Gulf; both Trump and the Iranian regime are world class liars.
Allow me to clarify that for you: Iran attacked commercial shipping in the Gulf. The U.S. retaliated.

HTH

the GCC (Gulf Cooperation Council) is trying to push Omar into establishing a separate corridor through the Strait instead of a joint one in cooperation with Iran. They don't like the idea of sharing power and profits.
Iran is sending the signal that it won't accept that.

it's a lot less damage than the US has caused to several vessels.

Dump lumbered out of his bedroom and saw his own shadow and now the US is hitting targets in Iran again.
The thing is I could support strikes agaisnt the Iranina Military if they are interfering with traffic in the Gulf and Straits of Hormuz..which are international waters. and attacking neutral shipping there is pure piracy, but I don't trust Trump one bit.

why .. would you support that?
It is empirically proven that military strikes do not stop the regime from blocking the Strait or attacking US bases in the region.
Is it just the need for retaliation, even if the attack was not against you? Or is it just the need to have the bigger dick?

Of course, I haven't heard you comment on Trump sinking boats in the Pacific or Caribbean and murdering their crew and passengers.

Because I do not like Piracy, and think that paying blackmail will ultimately just lead to more blackmail?
But you are apparently pro Iranian, and we will never agree.\And you seem to be a pacifist who thinks any use of military force is wrong, and we will never agree.
And you have fallen into the enemy of my enemy is my fried trap.
And I think Trump'a actions in the Carribean and the Pacific are outrageous.

look, you have a proven history of monochrome vision.
you are strawmaning me because you haven't really thought things through and it's so much easier to just support or oppose something because of how you feel about them - it's an ad hominem, just for entire countries.

There are some geographically, demographical and geopolitical fact in the Gulf Region that have long been suppressed but are now in the open and cannot be put back in the box.
You don't have to be emotionally invested (especially not to the degree you are) to see that the path forward is to let Iran have a piece of the cake instead of everyone bombing the cake to bits every few weeks.
The world won't end just because another dictatorship in the Gulf gets to sell its oil.

What Iran is doing is factually NOT piracy: it is exerting control over the ship traffic through its waters, something that every country in the world demands the right to do. It's not stealing cargo or sinking ships - it's just enforcing a blockade it deems in its national security interests.
Israel is doing piracy when its capturing aid boats in international waters and imprisoning and torturing the crew.

iran says it has no choice but to seek nuclear arms

Iran has “no choice” but to develop a nuclear bomb, a media outlet linked to the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps said — the latest threat to the US-organized peace deal.

The article, titled “No choice but to build the atomic bomb,” claims that Iran must negotiate with its enemies from a position of strength, and was published by Iranian state news outlet Fars on Sunday.

“To achieve the peace and calm that Iran needs, it must absolutely reach nuclear deterrence to ensure that the rest of the issues can be resolved through negotiation,” thunders the piece, before comparing Iran’s situation with the US to that of China in the 1970s.

iran says it has no choice but to seek nuclear arms
"Congratulation, Mr Trump. In less than 3 months, you've made sure the Iranian regime has consolidated its internal power and radicalised its external politics!"

history suggests they are right.

It's been obvious for a long time that if a country without nuclear weapons makes the US angry, they get bombed or invaded, while a country with nuclear weapons gets a firmly worded letter.
If a country feels that the US could potentially get upset with them at any point in the future, it's in their best interests to develop nuclear weapons.
The irony is that the desire to develop those weapons is something likely to make the US angry.

I'd say in Iran's case the bigger threat is Israel.

The Hormuz Letter
@HormuzLetter

BREAKING: Iran directly rejects Axios' claim of US-Iran technical talks in Doha this week, stating "technical working group meetings are not planned for this week" and that any next round will only be held "once all conditions are met," per Tasnim.

Iran reiterates these conditions include Israel withdrawing from Lebanon, ending its military operations there and the release of frozen Iranian funds.

iran ready for war. it's only ◊◊◊◊◊◊◊ tuesday, this is friday talk

Speaking in a televised interview, Ghalibaf said, "We are ready for war if the other party does not comply with the MoU."He further accused the United States of violating the understanding reached to end the recent conflict, citing incidents in the Persian Gulf."We consider the events that are taking place in the Persian Gulf these nights to be a violation of the understanding to end the war, and we will definitely react to it, and naturally, the other side will react as well."

talks about the strait

"The text of the MoU states that the passage through the strait is free of charge for only 60 days. Iran will not give up its rights in the Strait of Hormuz under any circumstances, and these are our territorial waters," Ghalibaf said.

Rep. Mark Alford: "40,000 people died at the hands of the Iranian government because they were wanting freedom. Uh, we are providing somewhat of a pathway to that in making sure they never have a nuclear weapon."
