Merged (edited) General thoughts about Christianity and the bible

A misunderstanding entrenched firmly in the terrified avoidance of any science that might actually impinge upon their insular little world.
It's like listening to Mormons tell me everything that's wrong with Catholics. I'm sure there are reasons for their disagreement. But I don't trust competitors to fairly represent the competition. Studying the Old Testament in Hebrew with a rabbi was an exercise in just how wrong Christians get it.

So, your claim is no glitches in evolution. (unless I can point them out) ???

I can't be bothered to search for these thoroughly debunked claims in the index, look them up yourself.

My home is host to some of the world's most spectacular geology. Down south we have a phenomenon variously called balancing rocks. This is where you have a narrow pillar of stone and a much larger "head" perched atop it. If you saw that and didn't know the geological processes behind it, you might be inclined to think it's some kind of miracle. How did that rock get up there without an intelligent actor? Who could think that would happen naturally?

What you don't tend to notice, however, is all the rock pillars where that didn't happen. 9,999,999 pillars may have toppled as geological forces acted and remain unremarkable. Just because the variables aligned in one case out of millions doesn't make that case suspicious.

Similarly the many, many failures in the evolutionary process aren't visible—because they failed. Failure means erasure from the record, requiring a more diligent search to find it. Systemic structures that arise by chance and happen to prevail say nothing of the hundreds of millions of systemic structures that arose by chance and failed. They become "suspicious" and therefore compel some to look for intelligent causation only because they are torn away from their surroundings and considered only in isolation. The question is not, "What's the probability that thing could have arisen randomly on its own?" It's, "What's the probability that this one out of all randomly-generated examples survived?" The answer to that is fairly high, because the combinatorics among myriad simultaneous random mutations and myriad simultaneous random changes in environment, more will emerge than the narrow-target misconception that Creationists try to pin on the theory.

Flaw #1: Life Does Not Arise from Non-Life

Ignorance must be bliss for you. The evidence suggests that it is possible. Still that is about the origin of life. Not evolution which is changes of populations of organisms over time. One is not the other,

Flaw #2: Natural Selection Does Not Produce Information

I have no idea what this means. Please expand. Natural Selection is simply how the environment affects populations over time.
Here's a great video showing natural selection at work with the pocket mouse.

Flaw #3: Transitional Forms Absent from the Fossil Record

You are so damn funny. Every single fossil and every single organism is a transitional form.

Flaw #4: Irreducible Complexity Prevents New Feature Development

Total nonsense. Michael Behe's stupid and deceptive argument was thoroughly slapped around in Kitzmiller v Dover School District.

Flaw #5: “Evidence” for Evolution is Ambiguous

No it's not. It is thorough and extremely precise. Evolution is proven through genetics at such detail to be stunning.

Sorry, but 'tis a nit I must pick: Nicaea, not Nice. Different place, 800 some miles away (as the crow flies).
It's a couple 'a's of difference. I declare them of negligable value. Also, never trust crows.

My phone is actually driving me nuts, typos everywhere that start off fine and a few words later duplicate and respell words in a previous sentence.

Do you believe that God healed him, or do you reject my testimony outright?
If so, why?
Wrong questions, and also a false dichotomy thrown in unnecessarily.

Here's the thing. You are the one making the claim. So you provide the evidence for your claim. We don't have to disprove your fairy tales.

Your "witnessing" of healings is not good evidence at all. You have been shown multiple ways you could have been fooled, some of them absurdly simple and obvious. Your insistence on it being "real" shows you are either an incredibly gullible fool, or you are being deliberately contrary. Neither of these are the least bit convincing.

If you are indeed a gullible fool, you might do well to heed the advice of forum members here who know a LOT more than you do about the subjects you spout on. Heed their wisdom, or continue to be ignorant - your choice.

If you are being deliberately contrary will earn you the same amount of respect and support as would be shown to a failed stand up comic - you will get pelted with ridicule.

Plenty of young "witnessers" have headed down the same track as you previously. Some persisted and had their arses handed to them by facts and logic. Some of them eventually became sceptics themselves when they realised the follies of their indoctrination. Others just gave up and flounced out of here. You have the choice what happens next, not us.

And here we are!

The standard creationist and ID claims which have been dealt with many, many, many times over the years.

Nothing remotely new: this is very boring!

Can't the creationists and ID-ers at least get some new ideas, rather than tedious repetition?
So... life can arise from non-life?
I thought you didn't believe in miracles.

Yeah. Talk origins provides excellent rebuttals to creationist talking points. Not that Rusty is interested in any of them. It is self preservation for him to maintain that bubble he is hiding in.
