Ed Israel/US Attacks Iran /Yet Another Country/Iran

So a New York Times article claims that the US and Israel were looking to change regimes, not by re-installing the Shah, but by getting Ahmadinejad to take over. Apparently he was under house arrest so the Israelis thought a good idea was to kill the guards with an air strike to release him.

It sounds such a cockamamie plan that it can’t possibly be true, but on the other hand, seeing the idiocy on offer right now from the Trump administration, it also looks like it could be. So stupid that yeah, maybe they would do it.

Presumably after releasing Mahmoud Ahmadinejad, he would take the guards weapons and go Rambo and take over the government. I guess they would just leave him to figure out the pesky details.

But apparently he was injured in the strike! I guess nobody could predict that. And the guy most famous for wanting Israel wiped from the map decided not to become their proxy after all. All worth a try no doubt.

My guess is that it was a fantasy spun out by Mossad to push TACO into going to war and Ahmmadinajacket had no idea about it.
 
Iran has said it is significantly expanding the area around the Strait of Hormuz over which it claims military control in an effort to assert its sovereignty of the key trade route.

A map published by Iran's newly-created "Persian Gulf Strait Authority" claims "Iranian armed forces oversight" across more than 22,000 sq km (8,800 sq miles).

It extends into the territorial waters of Oman and the UAE. The UAE described Iran's claims of control as "nothing but fragments of dreams".

Iran's new authority added that all transit through the strait "requires coordination with and authorization from the Persian Gulf Strait Authority".

God, that is one of the stupidest ideas I have seen. THere is no smart bomb missile precise enough to kill off the guards without a good chance of killing off the guy you want to rescue.if you are going to try to rescue AHmadinejad, then a Special Operations is the only thing that stands a chance.
I am sure he was told that right off the bat by the US Military, but then Trumps knows so much more about everything then anbody else.
 
Just read on the BBC site that Iran is rebuilding it's military much quicker then anybody expected
I can;t help but think that some kind of revenge is on their minds.
 
Last summer, they tried to bomb the gates to a prison holding dissidents, killing many in the process.
But they never learn from mistakes, only double down
 
Sad thingis Trump is winning suppot for the Iranian regime..and they really, really, don;t deserve any.

As I recall certain key prisoners knew a bit too much about D-day so killing them would have been a second-best outcome. They didn't tell the aircrews that. Also I think the outcome was a qualified success.

Not the only such raid though and I may be confusing them. I think a mission against the Gestapo HQ in Copenhagen resulted in a catastrophe with a school bombed in error.

No, Some prisoners were killed but were probably going to be executed or sent to 'work camps' in Germany. Plus, the real intent was to release the Resistance fighters who were definitely going to die anyway.

they fired most of the competent people in the us military in the last two years
